I don't think the MOJO will get overwritten with more additions. Instead it is muliplied so, that there is more MOJO! From Mojo to MAJOR MOJO. [Elecraft] Mojo not working here :(
Sorry to say but after many days trying I could not work VP6DX from home using my K3 , 100 watts and either my 5 band spiderbeam or my HF9V. I had to go to the club shack ( VK6ANC ) to work them on 20 and 80 mtrs ssb with " 400 watts" All this talk of how easy it was on qrp is amazing as everyone here in Western Australia has complained how weak they were and how hard it was to hear then, let alone get through. Looking at their logs for VK6 it seems very few of us got them on more than 2 bands and some on only one. It reinforces the fact we have known for many years here, the lower part of Zone 29 is one of the hardest places to get signals into the south pacific and South America. I had worked virtually all of South America from G land before I emigrated in 1987 ... on 10 mtrs FM, so far in 20 + years in Western Australia I've worked a total of 4 South American countries on any band !! And Brazil was on AO-40 !! You guys enjoy the mojo I will have to wait a few more years yet I think :( 73 Keith VK6XH -- Keith VK6XH / VK6DXR Secretary Northern Corridor Radio Group Inc VK6ANC Chairman WIA VK6 Advisory Committee. ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Fellow Crafters, When I initiated the use of the term Mojo as expressed by Elecraft radios way back many years ago, I did not realize what an accurate term it would become. Re: [Elecraft] Mojo
I appreciate being able to fire up my K2 and enjoy whatever HF operating suits the moment. I can't say its clearly superior to other rig choices that could be in my shack, but it is there, and I assembled it myself. Original motivation was to experience the build, and use it as a QRP supplement to my higher powered rig. Then i discovered an interest in low-band DX - i wanted a rig with a receiver 'at least as good as a K2.' Well the other options were less affordable than upgrading my K2 (and I already knew how to use it, so i thought). So I am enjoying 80m propagation (which is quite interesting) with my K2/100 and a modest vertical. And I decided it's time for an autotuner for more seamless operating in the next contest (particularly on 80m where CW spectral use does expand up the band). Nice the same rig can QRP, as we have enjoyed using K2's in FD battery class (we had 4 available last year, and now another participant has built a K2 so now there are 5 around representing 3-digit thru the latest serial numbers. Yes a list that was once merely people who soldered their rigs together has expanded a bit. In 2008 the K3 matters should settle down a bit, and folk will continue to use and advance their K2's. These rigs are 'merely' windows into enjoying what propagation (and what antennas we can deploy) allows. So those of us with mere K2's or K1's or KX1's can continue to thrive. 73, curt --- Goody K3NG <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I was away from this reflector for several years > after I built my K1 > (#505), just due to email volume and other things > going on. Re: [Elecraft] Mojo
Mojo? My K2 still has plenty of it! I am still amazed at the contacts I make with it. Built in 1999, S/N 0539, is the stock (no mods), not revision B, 15w capable QRP rig. It has never been in a SSB QSO, but does have the KSB2 module. I've toased finals twice and performs well at home, on the trail, or in the travel trailer. My most memorable contact was to Antartica on 30 meters running 3 watts to an inverted L while camping in Northcentral Arizona. It took me a long time to get used to the superior RX of the K2, and for a while I was so spoilled, I did not ever operate my Kenwood TS-850S/AT which also has an excellent RX. These days, my K2 is my favorite contest rig and run everything from milliwat to 300 watts (K2 driving an AL-811H). There are many things I would like to change about my K2, but can hardly fathom the thought of modifying my pristine K2. Elecraft Forever! K2 Mojo, the real deal. Re: [Elecraft] More 160 meter Elecraft MOJO
Sounds like everyone was putting their K2's through the paces over the weekend. I only got a chance to play for about 45 minutes in the ARRL 160M contest with 75Q's and 29 sections at 5W to a dipole at 30 ft. But last weekend in the CQWW running 100W I broke the old SOSB/80/LP record for the 2nd call area and N2WN broke the national and 4th call area records in the same category. Both of us were using K2/100's. Great little radios that let you slide up along side a 40 over 9 big gun CQ'ing and work the faint DX 500 Hz away! Very modest setup here due to HOA restrictions on antennas (none allowed). Many neighbors were up on their roofs this week putting up Xmas lights, so I took that opportunity to get up on my roof and attach an extension to the "inverted L" I have draped over the roof. Ran a AWG26 black stealth wire from the end of the antenna to a pine tree in the front yard - maximum height about 22 feet and less than 1/4 wavelength - non optimal for 160! But managed to load it with the K2 internal tuner. Had only made two QSOs on 160 previously in my ham career, so didn't know what to expect. But with 5 Watts operating about 4 hours each evening I managed 131 QSOs and 39 sections from here in Colorado. Delaware and British Columbia was best "DX". Best of all was enjoying the way the K2 operated - flawlessly, just as it did for Field Day, Sweepstakes and the CQ WW DX contest. Thanks Elecraft! 73 ... [Elecraft] Mojo!
Woohoo!!! Long Island, NY to Dijon, France...with 3 Watts! I was very excited to work HI with 5 Watts some mos. back, and glad to feel likewise again last night. I didn't think I'd be able to be heard through the other stations calling Paul, F9KP. There's something I feel is worth mentioning. When he came back with a partial call sign followed by a ?, the freq went dead silent and I was allowed to repeat my call a few times completely in the clear...very kewl! I did not use the K1 for this one. Instead, I used it's kissing cousin...a NorCal 40 A. [Elecraft] Elecraft "MOJO"
I was tuning across 17M on the other 25th and stumbled across a dx station in a pile up. It took a while to decode the call, I am CW challenged, but it was S5040A, (yep guys those are zeroes in there) Slovenia. Since I always call QRP the first time I gave him one call. Bang!, right back he came with a resounding, "W4ATK 5NN 5NN TU". My only antenna is a 180M inverted vee fed with open wire, so I thought, "Yep, the mojo is workin'" I called my buddy down the street with a 100 watt, "high knob count per dollar" rig and a 7 element super radiator at 110 feet and alerted him to the Slovenian station. Took him three passes at getting a confirmation and we were in the "sweet spot", this guy was "rolling in", but then I looked at the recently calibrated S-meter on the K2. It was wiggling around S1. Now, that is MOJO! Everyone who comes by to "play" the K2 is struck by the way stations leap out of the background noise. THAT is by design. Thanks again Wayne and Eric. 73, W4ATK K2 #4028 ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr.
