Yes, well, it's due to the confusion I explained. There will be attempts
at recovering the situation.

I'm pretty sure that the figures quoted are about acoustic shock in its
correct definition (i.e. transient very high level sounds, 'clicks').
There is a side-comment about audio sources, but no figures:

There are also voltage limits for audio sources.

Zealots are now using 'acoustic shock' to include long-term exposure,
which is an abuse. Once zealots are involved, semantic accuracy goes out
of the window, and not by accident.

Not sure where you got the idea it was limited to telecom devices. This was
intended for all the equipment currently covered by IEC 60950 and 60065.
Requirements include labeling and instructional warnings which refer to the
need for caution while listening to music for long periods. Additional quotes:

The objective of this clause is to provide protection against hearing
impairment
from excessive sound levels produced by electronic equipment.

The following shall be subjected to the requirement of Clause 11.4.2:
-Equipment provided with an acoustic energy source output for wired
connection
to an acoustic output transceiver intended to be worn in, around, or over
the ears
   (for example, earphones, headphones, ear implants, or earbuds) and;
-Wireless acoustic output transceivers intended to be worn in, around,
or over
the ears (for example, earphones, headphones, ear implants, or earbuds).

This is about acoustic shock, high-level transients in telecomms terminals. It
is a totally different subject from the subject of high programmes signal

Unfortunately, people unfamiliar with this subject have indeed often confused
them. It is NOT, as far as I know, controversial, although the 'traditional'
(i.e. dating from the days of the General Post Office) UK limit was 126 dB SPL
(not, IIRC, A-weighted, which is inappropriate at such levels anyway; the
ear's response is nearly flat, so C-weighting would be more relevant).

I don't know about the 150 mV, but the 100 dB SPL is right.

>The legislation refers to the following standards for measurement. EN
>50332-1 and EN50332-2

Yes: the French started this stunt several years ago - steamrollered it
through CENELEC and then found that without a Directive to back it up,
it was useless. There can't be a Directive, because the EU can't
legislate on public health matters (RoHS scrapes through because workers
could be exposed to toxins).

But then they found that the Low Voltage Directive includes 'radiation',
which was originally X-rays from CRTs by has been interpreted to cover
all 'radiation', not only EMF but sound as well!

The whole concept is technically unsound. There is a pressure-group in
the Netherlands trying to get those ENs called up in EN 60065 and EN
60950, so compliance would become compulsory. So far, they haven't won.

In UK, we think that the effects of ALL loud sounds need to be brought
to public attention, and people taught to avoid them. Clubs and noise at
work are **at least** as significant as personal players. See, for
example:

RE: Lab accreditation - DoC for FCC Part 15

2007-07-17 Thread emc-p...@ieee.org
Peter, what Dennis is saying is correct, there is presently no MRA on EMC
between India and the US (regardless of the APLAC signatures) and
accredited labs in both countries cannot have their reports accepted by the
other country until that government to government MRA is generated. The
list that Grace Lin issued is the current status of the US government to
government MRAs.

So, you're suggesting that the MRA explicitly mentioned on APLAC's web
site, which includes a US governmental body (NVLAP) as signatory, was
made before a treaty is in place. This is heady stuff and I urge you to
report this to the State Dept. pronto.

But before you do, maybe you should look at:

RE: South Korea conducted RF immunity requirements?

Subject: South Korea conducted RF immunity requirements?

Hello All:

I had the impression that South Korea imposes a conducted RF immunity test
that is either identical to or substantially similar to the one in EN 55024 (3
VRMS, 150 KHz to 80 MHz), which calls out IEC 61000-4-6 for the test procedure.

I would appreciate it if someone could clarify how the South Korean test
compares to the one in EN 55024. If the requirements are posted somewhere on
the Internet I would appreciate getting a link to them.

Thanks,
