Interesting. How does it "talk" to LinuxCNC? Re: [Emc-users] Pendants for LinuxCNC or MachineKit
I have my ELS that has a serial port or can have a CAN driver installed in place of the X axis STEP/DIR. Lots of buttons to make a control panel and I've also installed a larger LCD display on some units. The encoder knob works well for simple motion. Press the knob down and it increments the step from 0.001 to 0.005 to 0.010 to 0.020 and then around back to 0.001. But in general it's just for tweaking position. The arrow motion keys are used for normal motion. It's currently connected to the knee Gecko Drive which can't handle more than 10,000 steps per second before the motor locks up. In either case I'd somehow have to link that into LinuxCNC and that's beyond me at the moment and would take away from all the other projects. I really like the ShuttleXpress. But not enough buttons. The expanded Shuttle would be better. But I think I'll try this one from China first to get a feel how others are doing it. I'm building a pendent that will be kind of like this. I want only 2 buttons. I have the big encoder wheel an a small LCD.The idea is that the buttons will not have functions printed on them but the function name will be displayed on the LCD. First version is wired using RJ45 jack and Ethernet patch cord. I might add WiFi later. I'm printing a plastic hand-size enclosure for it. Re: [Emc-users] Pendants for LinuxCNC or MachineKit
Direct from China. Claim is delivery between 22May and 01Jun. I know I'll be able to plug it into the MACH3 CNC router and I've been looking at the LinuxCNC install. One claim is the display doesn't stay very up to date with the position. But then the problem with the internet forums is much of what is out there might be 2 to 10 years old. Or there's the typical set of questions and never a summary that the problem was fixed and how it was fixed. It wasn't a lot of money and I'm not sure I want a ShuttleXpress for the mill. It's been great for the router and there is BeagleBone support for it. The computer and human interface side is still up in the air. I may find after trying to mill the first circle that the backlash makes the system unusable until I either do something with the bronze nuts or retrofit ball screws. And I want to use the flood coolant pump that came with this mill so that means a bit larger cabinet around everything. John; I could give you my machine config, but it might be confusing, as it is not "textbook optimal" Start here by googling "linuxcnc xhc-hb04" and see what you get. Awesome. How did you incorporate it. Is there a special hal file for it. Initially I'll be mucking around with a BeagleBone MachineKit but eventually a Linux PC. Re: [Emc-users] Pendants for LinuxCNC or MachineKit
Hi John; Absolutely - have one on one of my mills. I added it what must be a couple of years ago; I believe that the "XHC-04" is what it is called. I've got spindle control, jogging, zero setting, and probably other things - not all the icons are in use, but more than enough to use it 90% of the time after machine is homed; only the "start" button is now only used on the monitor. [Emc-users] Pendants for LinuxCNC or MachineKit
Don't know if this link will make it through but a search of EBAY for "Wired USB MPG Pendant Handwheel Hand Wheel LCD Display for CNC Milling Router" brings up this wired pendant. Does this work with LinuxCNC and/or MachineKit?
