[e-users] 'too many init...' error message

2006-02-20 Thread P*J*G
Hi,

A friend of mine is getting an error message every time he logs in
(DR 17 on Ubuntu):
'too many init levels. Max = 32'

How to get rid of this annoying pop-up ?

Thanks

Hi,

I'm currently testing Xgl, however I came across a "problem". To
have the gl effects I have to use compiz and gnome-window-decorator.
But it possible to start e17 without the window-manager part (just
the desktop). I've already been able to do it the other way: using
e17 as my window-manager and use kicker and gnome-desktop ( or
another combination) together.
I realy hope it's possible, since if it's not, I would have to make a
very difficult choice.

The Backround of gnome is afaik set by nautilus and can be disabled
with nautilus --no-desktop. The other part im not so sure if it works,
but you could hava a look e_main.c and comment out all parts which
sound like like initialising the borders and surely some other stuff
too. BUT the pager, as I think the BEST module of e, wont work then
anymore since e has its own (not netwm compatible) handling of desktops
There could be a lot of other problems since e drwas its background not
on the normal root window.

Hope this helps with your descision. Btw what is the reason that you
want this strange combination?

The gnome-desktop was mostly an example to show the possibility of
combining parts of different desktopmanagers: since it is possible to
combine e17 with desktop- and task bar programs of other dm's, I
thought it had to be possible to run compiz (for the xgl effects) and
e17 for all the remaining. I hoped there would be an option in E like
--no-wm, to only start the desktop. But I'll try to comment out some
parts and look what the effects are.

thanx,
Ruben

It works fine for me. You might need to unbind the e17 bindings for
scroll wheel events (using enlightenment_remote -binding-wheel-del),
since they mask the engage bindings.

at RUNTIME (not compile time) when somethgin it EXECUTED that needs a library
in this director, ld.so (the RUNTIME linker that links ALL shared libraries in
at the time the program is RUN) needs to know where to find things. it is
completely separate ro the compiler - a compiler is told where to find things
at compile time and the runtime linker (ld.so) needs to know where to find them
runtime. it makers perfect sense to need this directory listed in ld.so.conf OR
$LD_LIBRARY_PATH at runtime so this will work. if you don't anything requiring
the edje library when it runs will fail. that will mean some builds will fail
as they run edje_cc to compile themes for example.

hi list,

my ctrl key just gave up (time for a new keyboard) and so i thought i'll
just remap the super_l key to ctrl (because it's 4am), using xmodmap.
works fine so far, i can use my mrxvt again, also switching from X to
console works, but somehow e17 doesn't take the new ctrl key, so i can't
switch to another desktop using ctrl+left/right and the same for
mozilla, can't open mozilla-mail with ctrl+2 or open/close tabs using
ctrl+t/w.
did i miss something e related?

i used the following .xmodmaprc which is executed using .xinitrc on
x-startup:
clear control
add control = Super_L

any ideas?

try removing the control key first. e actually looks for a control key to
figure it out.
ie small code snippet:

   ECORE_X_MODIFIER_CTRL  = _ecore_x_key_mask_get(XK_Control_L);

and that function actually gets the modifier mapping table and LOOKS for what
modifier Control is mapped to - so you really want to entirely rename your
super_l key (likely windows key) to be Control and then e will be most happy.
:)

 any ideas?
