I did a booboo on someone's Outlook and I am looking for help. I swapped his blackberry for a different device and sync'd someone else's calendar and contacts with his. Now both of them are in his folders. My question is what views do I have to change to be able to tell whose contacts and calendar is what? We have all versions of Outlook and OWA. RE: Calendar Contacts/Blackberry issue--Please help ASAP
Change to an event's view in the calendar or a phone list view in contacts. Then, through the Field Chooser, add the Modified field (you'll have to scroll down to All Calendar/Contact Fields), and sort by that. You'll find a group that were all modified consecutively, which is the result of the sync. Don't worry - first time this happened to me it was only my CIO. -- Roger D. RE: Transaction log partition size
I have had TLs on a very active server grow to a total of more than 2GB in a course of a day, on average. One more thing to consider - what if your backup fails for some reason. What if it fails for a couple of days? It would be nice to have enough disk space to accommodate a couple of extra days worth of logs. Also if you plan to move a lot of users from one server to another (or import mailbox data from PSTs) - the TLs on the target server will grow a lot, pretty much the size of the moved mailboxes. I'd say, disks are cheap, go for an 18GB RAID1. Recommended: OS: A RAID-1 physical volume. Transaction logs: One RAID-1 physical volume for each storage group. Databases: One or more RAID-5 physical volumes for each storage group. If you don't have a lot of users, you might be able to combine the OS and logs onto a single physical volume, but I would recommend splitting it into two logical volumes. Matt, one thing you may want to become familiar with is the Disaster Recovery Whitepaper. I'll post the link. It should describe for you exactly what you need to do in order to restore to an alternate server. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=enfamilyid= DF586628-3ABE-40C3-8E8F-BEB4122DE3D7 (link may wrap) Read it and figure out which scenario applies to you. RE: 5.5 to 2000 Transition
It's an online restore, and was an online full backup. I've been following the Whitepaper as noted in another post. I've had this sucker for a while, but since things didn't seem to be working as described, I needed the information you guys could provide. I've been hacking at this for a while now, just trying anything I could from the Knowledgebase or other sources to see what would or wouldn't work. At this point I think my best bet is to start over from the beginning of the restore process and make sure I didn't miss a step. -Original Message- From: Andy David [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, September 25, 2003 11:14 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: Re: 5.5 to 2000 Transition Is this an online or offline restore? - Original Message - From: Matt Hoffman [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Exchange Discussions [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, September 25, 2003 11:11 AM Subject: RE: 5.5 to 2000 Transition Actually, I tried all of those... Re: 5.5 to 2000 Transition
Be sure to restore only the Info Store, not the directory. Redirect it to the recovery server. *Do not* run any utilities on the database. Let it try to start on its own. With an online restore, there is no need to run isinteg and the only time you should have to run eseutil is if you screwed up and the recovery server's OS and SP level do not match the production's OS and SP level. In the DR whitepaper, use the section that refers to Single Mailbox Recovery and you should be good to go. - Original Message - From: Matt Hoffman [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Exchange Discussions [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, September 25, 2003 11:31 AM Subject: RE: 5.5 to 2000 Transition It's an online restore, and was an online full backup. Yup. That's what I'm using. I only tried those other utils based on articles that I had read after the original procedure had not worked. RE: Maximum MDB Database size on Exchange 5.5
If you use the standard edition of MS Exchange 5.5 the max is: PRIV.EDB16GB PUB.EDB 16GB Period. If you use the Enterprise edition of MS Exchange 5.5 then your only real limit is capability of your hardware. I have seen plenty of databases over 100GB and they function well. The negatives to DB's this size are primarily in the area of disaster recovery. If you and your customer can live with that then go for it. Public Folder issue
Hello all, I am re-posting this (with my fingers crossed) in the hope that someone out there can help me with this issue. I am having an issue in Exchange 2k SP3. I have size restrictions in place on the Public Folders at the store level. There is a sub-folder in the default PF tree that has had the size restrictions removed, but whenever the user tries to exceed 100MB (the restriction set at the store level) he receives the following error: Can't move the items. The item could not be moved. It was either already moved or deleted, or access was denied. If he reduces the size of the PF to under 100MB he can add to it. I have removed the check box to Use Store defaults, in the Limits tab and have left everything else blank. I assume that this means there is no size restriction on this particular folder. Am I right??? Please help, thanks. public folders lost their mail-enabled status after going native
Hi all. We have recently finished migrating from 5.5 to 2000 and switched to native mode. Right away we noticed that a large number of public folders lost their mail-enabled status. I thought that only newly created PFs in native Exchange 2000 are supposed to be mail-disabled, but the old ones should remain enabled, am I wrong? Also despite getting mail-disabled, the respective objects remained in the Microsoft Exchange System Objects container in ADUC. When we mail-enable the folders that got mail-disabled, sometimes they find their stub in the Microsoft Exchange System Objects container and click back in. Sometimes, they get mail-enabled from scratch and receive an SMTP address with number 2 - in those cases we have to find and delete the orphan stub. Has anyone else here experienced such behavior? Thanks! _ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=exchangetext_mode=lang=english To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
RE: 5.5 to 2000 Transition
OK, this is pretty stupid. I had everything else right... But here's the kicker: my assistant recently upgraded the restore server to W2K SP4. The original 5.5 server was W2K SP3. That was it right there, and I didn't bother to check because, at least in my mind, we hadn't upgraded any of our W2K servers yet. So, we're back up and running and all our users have their email. Thanks to all who helped me out with this, and sorry for any wasted time on your parts. Matt -Original Message- From: Matt Hoffman Sent: Thursday, September 25, 2003 11:43 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: 5.5 to 2000 Transition Yup. That's what I'm using. I only tried those other utils based on articles that I had read after the original procedure had not worked. This is, and should be, a relatively simple process, especially since we did normal, rather than differential, backups. But I must have screwed something up the first time (I had also just worked 13 straight hours with no break). We'll see about it this time. -Original Message- From: Andy David [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, September 25, 2003 11:38 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: Re: 5.5 to 2000 Transition Be sure to restore only the Info Store, not the directory. I've been hacking at this for a while now, just trying anything I could from the Knowledgebase or other sources to see what would or wouldn't work. Exchange 5.5 and Windows 2003
Have a few questions: We are currently about to start a Migration to AD. We have a Exchange 5.5 Server on a Windows NT 4 box. 1. Yes 2. No 3. You cant directly upgrade Exchange 5.5 to 2003. If you need to keep Exchange on the same hardware you will need to upgrade the OS to W2K, then upgrade 5.5 to 2000, then upgrade 2003 to 2003, the upgrade the OS to 2003 if you choose. Martin, Thanks for your response. Another Question: When you say build the new Exchange Server Install 2003 and move the Mailboxes, are you saying install Exchange 2003 on a Windows 2003 box? But will that work in an NT 4.0 Domain Environment? Remember, we are still on a NT 4.0 Domain Structure and moving to AD. RE: Exchange 5.5 and Windows 2003
Let me restate this 3. You cant directly upgrade Exchange 5.5 to 2003. If you need to keep Exchange on the same hardware you will need to upgrade the OS to W2K, then upgrade 5.5 to 2000, then upgrade Exchange 2000 to 2003, then upgrade the OS to 2003 if you choose. -Original Message- From: Martin Blackstone Sent: Thursday, September 25, 2003 2:15 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Exchange 5.5 and Windows 2003 1. RE: Exchange 5.5 and Windows 2003
You are going to need to get your AD infrastructure in place before you think about upgrading your Exchange server to anything other than 5.5. So the simple answer is no. You must have AD. As for your other question, Exchange 2003 will install on W2K or W2K3, but to take advantage of features like RPC over HTTP, you will need Windows 2003. -Original Message- From: Rosales, Mario [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, September 25, 2003 2:27 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Exchange 5.5 and Windows 2003 Martin, Thanks for your response. RE: Exchange 5.5 and Windows 2003
It won't. You can't even run the install for OWA 5.5 on a Win2k3 server, much less the full Exchange 5.5 install. So in this case, not supported = won't work. I'd take Martin's advice. Wait until you upgrade your NT4 domain to AD, then buy a new server, install Win2003 as a member, install Exchange 2003, then move your mailboxes.
