Calendar Contacts/Blackberry issue--Please help ASAP

2003-09-25 Thread Gonzalez, Alex
I did a booboo on someone's Outlook and I am looking for help. I swapped his
blackberry for a different device and sync'd someone else's calendar and contacts with
his. Now both of them are in his folders. My question is what views do I have to
change to be able to tell whose contacts and calendar is what? We have all versions
of Outlook and OWA. Please help asap if you can I am in trouble.

Thanks,

Alex

2003-09-25 Thread Roger Seielstad
Change to an event's view in the calendar or a phone list view in contacts.

Then, through the Field Chooser, add the Modified field (you'll have to
scroll down to All Calendar/Contact Fields), and sort by that. You'll find a
group that were all modified consecutively, which is the result of the sync.

Don't worry - first time this happened to me it was only my CIO.

Subject: Mail enable Public Folders

I have a box running Win2k3 member of the domain and E2k3 Enterprise. I
used a client computer with Outlook 2003 to create a new public folder.

I go to the E2k3 Server, as I need to mail-enable the new public folder.
I launch Exchange's System Manager and click the + sign next to Folders
at the bottom of the left list. I then click Public Folders.

The system manager then prompts for a username and password!

I have checked the delegation properties and the 2 users there have full
control - yet neither let me in.

I have rebooted the server and still cannot get past the username
password box.

Any thoughts/help would be appreciated.

Thanks

RE: Agent Tabs In Outlook

2003-09-25 Thread Alex Alborzfard
As posted before, you need to go to Advanced Options, Add-In Manager and
check Server Scripting.
This should give you the Agents tab.
Did you get this utility from CDOlive website? Is it working for you? I
downloaded the Auto Reply

Greetings,

I am using the Auto Accept utility for Outlook 98 Exchange 5.5 SP4. I have
several resources that have the Agent Tab available to them in the Inbox and
I have a few that don't have the agent tab turned on. How do I turn that tab
on for all resources so that when I configure Auto Accept it works properly?

I have gone those the folders; system folders; events roots;
eventconfig_SERVERID and everything is correct. I have assured that the
account is the same in all resources.

Still I am perplexed and need your assistance.

I just managed to restore via the remote backup. I kept getting errors

I'm currently looking through some knowledgebase articles to see if I

Mongo head hurt.
You should be able to setup a new 5.5 server on a member server. Just
make sure its got the same OS and Exchange SPs as the original
production 5.5 server. Create a new site and org, using the exact same
org and site name as the orig 5.5 server. Restore only the info store,
pop out those mailboxes to psts and import them into the new server.

Gah! Sorry about hijacking that thread...

OK, Migration to Exchange 2000 from 5.5 was a nightmare, but I managed
to get MOST of my users to transfer over. Unfortunately, 15 of the 160
did not transfer inexplicably. They now have no mailboxes. Also, even
more unfortunately, a couple of them are people who had huge mailboxes
and lost a whole lot of data here.

I still have my backups from 5.5, but the question is, how the hell do I
get any of it back now? The tape drive that was used for those backups
was on the same server that is now 2000, and is now in AD where it was
in an NT 4 domain before.

I tried installing 5.5 on another server and the 5.5 management tools on
the upgraded box. Normally that means one can see the existing 5.5
servers and restore or backup data to them remotely. However, the 5.5
management tools cannot see the other server that 5.5 is now installed
to. It's in the old domain, whereas the new box is in the new AD
domain. Is this the problem? Should I install 5.5 somewhere in my AD
domain and try restoring there? Is this a common problem with the 5.5
management tools that they can't go cross-domain to see 5.5 server?

I guess any kind of help here would be great since my 15 lost users
are having major panic attacks.

Thanks,

Matt

RE: Transaction log partition size

2003-09-25 Thread Fyodorov, Andrey
I have had TLs on a very active server grow to a total of more than 2GB
in a course of a day, on average.

One more thing to consider - what if your backup fails for some reason.
What if it fails for a couple of days? It would be nice to have enough
disk space to accommodate a couple of extra days worth of logs.

Also if you plan to move a lot of users from one server to another (or
import mailbox data from PSTs) - the TLs on the target server will grow
a lot, pretty much the size of the moved mailboxes.

I'd say, disks are cheap, go for an 18GB RAID1.

says it is failing with no errors. So, I'm uninstalling 5.5 and will

I just managed to restore via the remote backup. I kept getting errors

I've heard anything over 100 gigs requires another Mail server. Is that

RE: 5.5 to 2000 Transition

2003-09-25 Thread Matt Hoffman
It's an online restore, and was an online full backup. I've been
following the Whitepaper as noted in another post. I've had this sucker
for a while, but since things didn't seem to be working as described, I
needed the information you guys could provide. I've been hacking at
this for a while now, just trying anything I could from the
Knowledgebase or other sources to see what would or wouldn't work. At
this point I think my best bet is to start over from the beginning of
the restore process and make sure I didn't miss a step.

Actually, I tried all of those... Isinteg... Esutil... And changing
the restore in progress setting... One thing I saw said to delete that
registry key. Nothing so far has worked... At this point the problem
now appears to be that the Directory Service won't start, but the system
says it is failing with no errors. So, I'm uninstalling 5.5 and will
reinstall and then restore again.

did you run isinteg with the patch option? Also what was the exact error

message you get in the event log. Search on that as it may have to do
with changing the restore in progress setting.

I just managed to restore via the remote backup. I kept getting errors
in the event log but eventually one of them led me to a knowledgebase
article that mentioned needing to have NetBIOS over TCP/IP turned on on
the servers. Having done that then it worked. However, the Information
Store won't start afterward, even with a reboot of the restored server.
I'm currently looking through some knowledgebase articles to see if I
can figure anything out...

No.
Is this an online backup?
Simply re-direct the info store restore to the recovery 5.5 server. You
don't need to restore the directory to get at the mailboxes.

Argh! Trying this IS making my head hurt. I installed to another
member server in the same domain as my current Exchange 2000 server. So,
both are in an Active Directory domain. I get the same thing with the
5.5 management console... It just can't find the 5.5 server. I was
used to seeing this just connect with no problem previously when I had
two 5.5 servers going at once. So, what 's the problem here? Some
service I didn't install, something I haven't configured correctly? I'm
getting no luck in Microsoft's knowledgebase. This is just a basic
install following the instructions Andy gave here... Same org and site
as the old server. I installed just the server itself and the
management console, and installed it as a non multi-site server. I have
no idea if that's the problem. I wouldn't think it would be.

Any clue as to why the management console on another server will not
pick up this 5.5 server??

Thanks,

Matt

Re: 5.5 to 2000 Transition

2003-09-25 Thread Andy David
Be sure to restore only the Info Store, not the directory.
Redirect it to the recovery server. *Do not* run any utilities on the
database. Let it try to start on its own.
With an online restore, there is no need to run isinteg and the only time
you should have to run eseutil is if you screwed up and the recovery
server's OS and SP level do not match the production's OS and SP level.
In the DR whitepaper, use the section that refers to Single Mailbox
Recovery and you should be good to go.

Yup. That's what I'm using. I only tried those other utils based on
articles that I had read after the original procedure had not worked.
This is, and should be, a relatively simple process, especially since we

Change to an event's view in the calendar or a phone list view in contacts.

Then, through the Field Chooser, add the Modified field (you'll have to
scroll down to All Calendar/Contact Fields), and sort by that. You'll find a
group that were all modified consecutively, which is the result of the sync.

Don't worry - first time this happened to me it was only my CIO.

RE: Maximum MDB Database size on Exchange 5.5

2003-09-25 Thread Couch, Nate
If you use the standard edition of MS Exchange 5.5 the max is:

PRIV.EDB16GB
PUB.EDB 16GB

Period.

If you use the Enterprise edition of MS Exchange 5.5 then your only real
limit is capability of your hardware. I have seen plenty
of databases over 100GB and they function well. The negatives to DB's this
size are primarily in the area of disaster recovery. If you
and your customer can live with that then go for it.

I am a little too use to Veritas and Ex 5.5 so I am new to the 'STM' file
and the backup procedures of Exchange2K3 (same as 2000 it appears). I am
trying to backup using NTBackup to a disk, all the rest of the backup
completes but I can not get the Exchange portion to backup correctly. It
appears from the log, I get the volumes and (based on size) what appears to
be the Public folders but I can't seem to get the Private store to backup.
At the very bottom (pasted below) is where it fails. I've searched for the
error in the 'Q' articles, I don't seem to find anything (looking in
Exchange2000 kB's). Maybe it's just a RC bug...

2003-09-25 Thread Roger Seielstad
In theory, it is measured in terabytes. In reality, its something smaller
than the maximum usable size of your backup tapes.

For instance, with DLT7000 tapes, I get ~65GB on a tape when backing up the
databases, so I won't go over that number.

Public Folder issue

2003-09-25 Thread Bennett, Josh

Hello all,

I am re-posting this (with my fingers crossed) in the hope that someone
out there can help me with this issue.

I am having an issue in Exchange 2k SP3. I have size restrictions in
place on the Public Folders at the store level. There is a sub-folder in
the default PF tree that has had the size restrictions removed, but
whenever the user tries to exceed 100MB (the restriction set at the
store level) he receives the following error:

Can't move the items. The item could not be moved. It was either already
moved or deleted, or access was denied.

If he reduces the size of the PF to under 100MB he can add to it. I have
removed the check box to Use Store defaults, in the Limits tab and have
left everything else blank. I assume that this means there is no size
restriction on this particular folder. Am I right???

Please help, thanks.

public folders lost their mail-enabled status after going native

2003-09-25 Thread Fyodorov, Andrey
Hi all.

We have recently finished migrating from 5.5 to 2000 and switched to
native mode.

Right away we noticed that a large number of public folders lost their
mail-enabled status. I thought that only newly created PFs in native
Exchange 2000 are supposed to be mail-disabled, but the old ones should
remain enabled, am I wrong?

Also despite getting mail-disabled, the respective objects remained in
the Microsoft Exchange System Objects container in ADUC.

When we mail-enable the folders that got mail-disabled, sometimes they
find their stub in the Microsoft Exchange System Objects container and
click back in. Sometimes, they get mail-enabled from scratch and receive
an SMTP address with number 2 - in those cases we have to find and
delete the orphan stub.

Has anyone else here experienced such behavior?

Thanks!

RE: 5.5 to 2000 Transition

2003-09-25 Thread Matt Hoffman
OK, this is pretty stupid. I had everything else right... But here's
the kicker: my assistant recently upgraded the restore server to W2K
SP4. The original 5.5 server was W2K SP3. That was it right there, and
I didn't bother to check because, at least in my mind, we hadn't
upgraded any of our W2K servers yet.

So, we're back up and running and all our users have their email.
Thanks to all who helped me out with this, and sorry for any wasted time
on your parts.

Yup. That's what I'm using. I only tried those other utils based on
articles that I had read after the original procedure had not worked.
This is, and should be, a relatively simple process, especially since we
did normal, rather than differential, backups. But I must have screwed
something up the first time (I had also just worked 13 straight hours
with no break). We'll see about it this time.

Be sure to restore only the Info Store, not the directory. Redirect it
to the recovery server. *Do not* run any utilities on the database. Let
it try to start on its own. With an online restore, there is no need to
run isinteg and the only time you should have to run eseutil is if you
screwed up and the recovery server's OS and SP level do not match the
production's OS and SP level. In the DR whitepaper, use the section that
refers to Single Mailbox Recovery and you should be good to go.

Hmmm... One more thing... Does the server I'm restoring to require the
same name as the old server? Not just the same org and site?

Exchange 5.5 and Windows 2003

2003-09-25 Thread Rosales, Mario
Have a few questions:

We are currently about to start a Migration to AD. We have a Exchange 5.5
Server on a Windows NT 4 box. We are moving the Exchange 5.5 Server to a
Windows 2000 Box due to limitation on the Old Hardware. After our AD
Migration we are going to upgrade to Exchange 2000 I have a few questions
that I was wondering if anyone can help.

1. Will Windows 2003 Work in an Windows 2000 AD Environment
2. Will Exchange 5.5 Work on a Windows 2003 Box?
3. Will Exchange 5.5 Upgrade to Exchange 2000 on Windows 2003 Box or
Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 work on a Windows 2003 Box that is in a
Windows 2000 AD Domain or a Windows 2003

Would appreciate any assistance. Or if you could let me know what's
the best migration path to make it easier. :)

Thanks for your help in advance!

install Exchange 2003 on a Windows 2003 box? But will that work in an NT

RE: Exchange 5.5 and Windows 2003

2003-09-25 Thread Martin Blackstone
You are going to need to get your AD infrastructure in place before you
think about upgrading your Exchange server to anything other than 5.5.
So the simple answer is no. You must have AD.

As for your other question, Exchange 2003 will install on W2K or W2K3, but
to take advantage of features like RPC over HTTP, you will need Windows
2003.

 [EMAIL PROTECTED] 26/09/2003 9:14:49 a.m.

2003.

Martin,

Thanks for your response. Another Question: When you say build the
new Exchange Server Install 2003 and move the Mailboxes, are you saying
install Exchange 2003 on a Windows 2003 box? But will that work in an NT
4.0 Domain Environment? Remember, we are still on a NT 4.0 Domain Structure
and moving to AD.

3. You cant directly upgrade Exchange 5.5 to 2003. If you need to keep
Exchange on the same hardware you will need to upgrade the OS to W2K, then
upgrade 5.5 to 2000, then upgrade 2003 to 2003, the upgrade the OS to 2003

The better solution would be to get a new Exchange server, install 2003 and

RE: Exchange 5.5 and Windows 2003

2003-09-25 Thread Dickenson, Steven
It won't. You can't even run the install for OWA 5.5 on a Win2k3 server,
much less the full Exchange 5.5 install. So in this case, not supported =
won't work.

I'd take Martin's advice. Wait until you upgrade your NT4 domain to AD,
then buy a new server, install Win2003 as a member, install Exchange 2003,
then move your mailboxes.
