Roaming Outlook XP users, but with no Roaming Profiles

2002-06-11 Thread alantzos

Is there any way of having a roaming outlook profile that follows a user,
but without actually having a roaming w2k profile?

Thanks.

It wasn't required for my server, but I did it just in case.

Microsoft is probably scanning this mailing list now for everyone's
experiences :) They want to know too if the reboot is required.

Microsoft have written in their Security Bulletin MS02-25 that no reboot
is needed. Anyone who have succeed to apply the patch with no reboot?

In my case I did apply to a test server first. I got could not stop
msexchangesa and could not restart iisadmin services. Not a problem, I
stopped the Exchange services manually, it requires a reboot anyway so
restarting at time of install is not important.

I've had similar services stopping and starting issues with every
Exchange patch for E2k. That's why I test first. So far, 4 hours into
it, no performance problems or loss of services on the test box. That's
the important part. If it continues to be ok under load then I will
apply it to a production server, after stopping all services manually
first (something I learned to do as far back as 4.0).

The important part is that I know what to expect when I apply the patch
in production and that makes for a smooth transition and minimum
downtime.

Best Regards,
Dan Bartley

HQ does not have a good record when it comes to W2K and E2K so I don't trust
them. I'm trying to minimize exposure to the inevitable screwup.

Our E2K server will be in a child domain to HQ, I want to keep user accounts
in a totally separate domain (ultimately W2K w/AD) with trust relationships
setup. The child domain to HQ will only be to hold mailboxes, I don't want
to run user or computer accounts out of this domain. This will occur in my
separate domain.

I have gotten the whole thing setup, my NT users can login and access the
E2K mailboxes in the AD domain. That part works fine (all in a test
environment.) What doesn't work is OWA. OWA doesn't know which mailbox to
open when I type in the UN,PW,Domain of the NT domain. I don't want my users
logging in with the user accounts of the E2K child domain.

Is there anything else I can do or am I out of luck? Thanks.

OWA - FTP Type repsonse. - E2K

2002-05-21 Thread alantzos

I have an upgraded 5.5 server now on E2K sp2 which responds with FTP type
browsing when accessing the OWA.

I'm not getting any errors. I had to follow a few Q's as the exchfilt.dll
did not swap to the new version on upgrade, not sure if this is related.
Also the /exadmin virtual was missing. I have added this. The application
still not seem to start.

Also the server has recipient policies to accept mail from other domain
names. These never authenticate via OWA, any reason for this? Ive tried
adding another virtual HTTP server for the said mailboxes/domains, but no
joy.

Thanks

Is this the only server or is it a FE server ?

Ok, the Config_CA is not there anymore, just my connection agreements, AD is
replicating ok. Can send messages between Ex2k servers in site, but not to
5.5 servers in site. The GAL is populated with my 5.5 AD info but mail
not passing between 5.5 E2K in the same site.

IIRC, only after you've actually installed the Exchange 2000 server into
the 5.5 site, e.g. you could install the ADC, perform ForestPrep and
join the 5.5 site, then create the ordinary ADC connection agreements,
and the Config CA still won't be there at that point.

RE: ADC - Config Entry

2002-03-26 Thread alantzos

Yes, sounds like it. It assumed a new site and did not ask me. If I try
and create a new SRS, it only lists my 5.5 servers. When I choose a 5.5
server and authenticate it says the server is not available.

How do I get my Config_CA back post 2000 installation? It does not matter
if I must re-install again, but I have already tried this and it still does
not ask me to join a site and I do not have a COnfig_CA, just connection
agreements, that are working ok.

That part of installation is no different than 5.5's installation; if it
didn't ask you for the name of an existing 5.5 server, then the
username/pass, you somehow skipped the screen that asks if you want to
join the site.

RE: ADC - Config Entry

2002-03-26 Thread alantzos

Yes, I followed a few Q's, it wanted me to change the LDAP ports on my
existing 5.5 servers.

I changed them to 379. It let me create the SRS. Replication has started
and some tanked up mail has now been delivered from 5.5 to 2000. The E2K
servers are now showing up in the 5.5 Admin tools on the 5.5 servers.

I'll leave it at that as that sorts that particular issue. Thanks.

Just to recap, un-installing 2000 removed the Config_CA in ADC, on
re-installing, it did not ask me what site to join and just installed.
Hence my problem. Just wondering if Im going to hit other problems because
of the order of problems and installation.

Thanks.

That part of installation is no different than 5.5's
installation; if it didn't ask you for the name of an

skipped the screen that asks if you want to join the site.

Yes, first time. I ended up having to un-install exchange

It only asked me at forest prep time originally.

IIRC, only after you've actually installed the Exchange
 2000 server

Mail Queued at MTA

2002-02-12 Thread alantzos

All Nt4 SP6a Exchange 5.5 SP4.

Ive got a stack of SMTP email stuck at the MTA in Server A, destination
Server B. Server B is down. Server B had the only IMC in the Org. Made
another IMC on Server A, all new incoming/outgoing smtp email now flowing
ok.

Is there anyway of lifting the smtp email listed in the MTA Queue on Server
A destined for Server B to the new IMC on Server A?

Many Thanks

RE: Exch2000 d-queue from 5.5 with ETRN

2002-02-05 Thread alantzos

Thanks Andy, I don't seem to be getting my head around this

The FQDN is peteralan.co.uk, at the mo, all mail is accepted as inbound on
the IMC. All users have a mailbox, they access it using Outlook on a LAN
POP3 over the Internet. Some of the users are now at a fixed new site and
they have Exchange 2000 with ISDN facilities.

You want me to remove their mailboxes (I don't mind doing this, as they are
quite empty) and change their entity to a SMTP custom recipient. Do I use a
spoof address?

So USER 1 has a mailbox, and an address of [EMAIL PROTECTED] I delete
the mailbox, create a custom recipient using [EMAIL PROTECTED] and an
additional address of [EMAIL PROTECTED] (made up name). Then open the
IMC, on Connections, click on Email-Domain, add peteralan2.co.uk or
peteralan.co.uk? and Q for ETRN.

On the Exchange 2k Server, I dial the net, request ETRN from which domain?
DO I define a user/password for de-q? If I try autodial using a VPN setup
it never dials, only a normal ISP dial. If I dial manually it works.
Having trouble pre-determining an IP. But is that really necessary? I
thought with ETRN you did not need a fixed IP address.

What Email address should the newly created mailbox on the E2K server have
for [EMAIL PROTECTED] the real one or the spoof one of
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and have a reply address of [EMAIL PROTECTED]?

Thanks for your time. I suppose I'll understand the next time around.

After a fashion. For the remote users, you would not configure mailboxes,
but rather Custom Recipients. The Custom Recipient would have a primary
SMTP address of the remote system ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) and would have a
secondary SMTP address of [EMAIL PROTECTED] That way external mail gets sent to
your server for those users.

On the IMS, you would then configure (on the Connections tab) a Domain
Message Delivery exception for e2k.bar.com and set the Queue messages for
ETRN checkbox.

Next you need RRAS set up to receive VPN connections. When the E2K server
dials the internet, it can then establish a VPN connection to your network
(and get a fixed IP, which you either put in the Domain configuration above,
or put in your local DNS) and issue the ETRN. The mail will be deliverd
over the secure VPN.

Alternatively you could use one of the dynamic-DNS services to update the
DNS info for the E2K server every time it dials up, but since Exchange 5.5
maintains a DNS cache, that's not going to work very well.

All servers are 5.5 SP3. Half of them still on NT 4 SP6a, one is on W2K SP2

I Installed the ADC first. But did not establish a Recipient Connection, as
it would not take it as below, So I went ahead and installed E2K, and joined
the existing 5.5 site. All this seems ok. It will send to another mailbox
on a 5.5 server but replying gives an NDR.

On a PDC (as it were) the Exchange Setup prog does the Domain
  Forrest prep
for you as it was the highest point anyway in the forest.

This went ok, I cant get the recipient ADC to work, it keeps
 saying that the
5.5 exchange server specified in the From exchange setting is
 invalid, but
 its not.

Subject: E2K wont receive mail in 5.5 site.
Sensitivity: Confidential

Ive added an E2K server to my 5.5 SP4 site, all seemed ok, no install
errors, E2K has SP1 Q303451.

I can send an email from a mailbox created on the E2K server to a mailbox on
the 5.5 servers and also to the internet via the IMC on one of the 5.5
servers. If I send an email to the E2K mailbox I get an NDR, recipient not
known, from any source.

Also, when the email is delivered to the 5.5 servers, the display name is
shown in the FROM field is as per display name in the AD. When it passes
through the 5.5 IMC, it looks like a raw name.

There are no error messages in any event log.

Any ideas?

RE: E2K wont receive mail in 5.5 site.

2001-11-28 Thread alantzos

Does the Recipient ADC need to be in place before Installing Exchange or can
it be added after?

Can I not do this?

2001-10-05 Thread alantzos

I've got a PDC (Its the only server in the domain), Its got Exchange 5.5 on
it.

I'm doing the following;

Upgrading it to 2000 ADV Server, create a new AD forest and leave it in
mixed mode.

Works fine, Exchange 5.5 happy, whole server happy.

I run Exchange 2000 setup, run the ADC thingy - Fine.

On completion of install, no Exchange what so ever...All services start ok,
but it does not replicate the 5.5 site into 2000 no-one has accessAlso
non of the connectors work.

Am I missing something major?

RE: Can I not do this?

2001-10-05 Thread alantzos

I upgraded NT to 2000, the DCpromo ran shortly after. It ran ok, and the
domain functions in mixed mode with all groups users retained.

The upgrade installed the DNS service configured it for me.

The Windows 2000 was an upgrade, so was the Exchange 2000.

I'm trying to upgrade my 5.5 site to 2000, but get an error.

The server was a PDC NT4 and was the only server in this Domain. The server
was upgraded to Windows 2K ADV and Active Directory. (Mixed
Mode)
All went ok.
The 5.5 SP4, single site/server Exchange installation on it, also functions
ok.

I installed the Active Directory Update from the Exchange 2000 CD - Worked
ok. I am now running setup, when I change the role to Upgrade, I get

The Component Microsoft Exchange Messaging Collaboration Service cannot
install because the directory service is not the expected type.

It also asks to check for the LDAP port in the same message.

Any ideas? Is it the Mixed mode active directory state or is there
something else Ive missed?

Thanks.

Tony.

Upgrading from 5.5 to 2000 - Error

2001-10-04 Thread alantzos

Whilst half way through an upgrade to 2000, I get the following error, which
only gives a Retry or Cancel option.

Set-up failed while installing subcomponent MS SchedulePlus Free/Busy
connector with
error code 0x80072030

Has anyone seen this before or got a fix for it?
