There isn't and ext CD in the package so it would be hard to be the "same" as the downloadable isos. I'll speak no more on this subject as we've already heard from Mandrakesoft that I don't know what I'm talking about. They're probably right. There is something more fundamental here that people need to come to grips with. Just because Linux distributors put version numbers on their boxes doesn't mean that each shrinkwrap package that says 7.1 on it is going to be the same as any other any more than when you buy W'98. I've bought two versions of LM7.1 Complete and they were different. I knew they were different before I bought them as the second one makes a big deal about the fact that Star Office 5.2 is included. Star Office 5.2 wasn't even available when I bought the first one. I think a better "logical assumption" is that these packages vary. Certainly all evidence from watching people talking in [newbie] about this issue suggests that there is variation. I, and the other guy who opened this thread, aren't talking from "assumption" however. We've got the disks in our hot little mitts and there's no way these disks are the same as the isos as one of the iso disks isn't even in the package. Anyway, I don't have my CDs here. I will check them, and make a list. BUT, the Linux Mandrake Essential that I bought, as I say, does *not* include the "Extensions disk" (where I understood is the libstdc++-devel-2.95.2-7mdk.i586.rpm), but something called "Applications CD". There are 4 different commercial packages of Linux Mandrake 7.1: Macmillans Complete and Deluxe Mandrakes Essential and Power Pack http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/fpowerpack.php3 They were, however all released at the same time, and I would suspect were written from the same ISOs. My Deluxe CDs are indentical to the ones I wrote from ISO (at least in terms of the packages on them). I can't say anything about the rest, but that would be the logical assumption. Well Alain...then I must be lying. I do this just to deceive people about something in which I have no vested interest and with people I do not know. The other people who have seen the same thing must be part of this sinister plot. What I can tell you is that when I did an expert install with the disks I just bought, there was no libstdc++ and no libstdc++-devel listed in the Development area of the package listings. > Below are the two files you guys have been discussing. Alain...did you know that Linux Mandrake 7.1 has been "released" at least twice as a shrinkwrapped package? I know this because I've bought both of them. The later one came with Star Office 5.2 and a few other things. These items are clearly marked on the box. I bought the second one as I'd given the first to a friend. As for iso variations there are many and the highly variable file sizes have been discussed as well. Given that you're soo.knowledgable about all things, I'll not waste any more of my time trying to convince you otherwise. If you check the installation disks you find the compiler package but not the library package. To me that's a mistake. But then I'm one of those people that believes that alot of Windows "features" are mistakes. I find that Star Office's slogan "Do it all in one place" is a mistake. So what do I know about mistakes? Thanx. I realized that I was pretty loose with the word "stable" here. By that I mean that nothing was being added. In my view, even the "final" is not stable enough to do real work with it (I should probably duck when saying that). My guess is that this is mostly due to KDE2.0 issues so maybe it'll be find with Gnome Helix. In any case, I hope this clarifies what I meant by "stable."
