I think you are jumping to a lot of quick, and incorrect, conclusions. I remember this happening to me (guns in my face), when I lived in Oregon, nearly 40 years ago. A friend and I had been visiting friends in the Bay Area. Got a late start going home, and ended up in Roseburg, OR around 2 AM, looking for a gas station. We stopped at a 7-11 to ask where one might be. Just after we left the store, and got back in the car, the robbery alarm at the 7-11 malfunctioned - cops came screaming in from all directions. They focused on one particular vehicle, because it had four [innocent] young guys in it, though one of the officers was also cursing at me and my friend, while alternately pointing his weapon at our heads. It was pretty stressful. Yeah, cops have been into a doctrine of overwhelming force, for a *long* time. But it wasn't a DUI checkpoint. There was a guy on the loose who had already wounded four cops and engaged them in a gun battle on and off all night. These were very nervous cops. They set up the checkpoint in an attempt to make sure the perp didn't get away; it wasn't just routine intimidation of motorists. They had to be ready to instantly shoot the dude up close and personal if they found him in a car at the checkpoint, because he would have been more than ready to shoot them. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, fairfieldlife@yahoogroups.com wrote: The photo was allegedly taken at a checkpoint. RE: Re: [FairfieldLife] RE: RE: Police State Amerika
Wasn't a DUI checkpoint. I've met some stinking bad cops, and some really good ones, and mostly those just doing their jobs. I generally have been treated professionally by them, under a great variety of circumstances. This country is now awash in weapons. I would be terrified if the police were not around. I live in a neighborhood that is very close to freeways, and high traffic retail areas. Great location, nice place, but very accessible. It wasn't the first time, but last Sunday, we had a criminal escape into our neighborhood. The place was swarmed with cops, and they apprehended him quickly. I have also seen them do the same thing, looking for lost kids, here, including helicopter announcements. I know they can be used as tools of the state, but until I see that as their predominant role, I'll cut them a break. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, fairfieldlife@yahoogroups.com wrote: The photo was allegedly taken at a checkpoint. That's your misperception. Bashing the messenger is your well known modus operanda here on FFL and people are sick of it. Grow up. We have these kind of incidents around here all the time and we don't like the cops acting like cowboys. And they don't necessarily go around pointing guns at ordinary citizens heads. Remember this incident happened only about an hour's drive from me and it was a bit isolated. They shut down Roseville and did let people back in their homes for 24 hours. How would you like that? Typical police state tactic and over the top! And we also just had a cop shoot a kid who had a toy machine gun just as the kid turned around to show the cop it was a toy. Citizens in that community are outraged and have had enough as well they should be. Hitler would have loved your apologism. Citizens in that community are outraged and have had enough as well they should be. Indeed they should be, and not just in that community. There are far too many incidents like that these days. Hitler would have loved your apologism. Pretty early in the discussion for Godwin's Law to come into play, isn't it? Grow up. And the first didn't even mention the messenger--it was only after you bashed my message that I came back with some remarks about you (as well as about the isuse). You, on the other hand, added zilch to the discussion other than the bashing. You're projecting a la Barry. I think it must be an age-related tendency for both of you. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com mailto:FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, fairfieldlife@yahoogroups.com mailto:fairfieldlife@yahoogroups.com wrote: As usual Judy bashes the messenger instead of discussing the story and isuse. Better get those hallucinations checked out. Instead I asked doc how he would like to have a gun pointed at his head at a DUI checkpoint? Sticking a rifle in a car window would be seriously out of proportion at a DUI checkpoint, but not at a checkpoint where the guy in the car has just shot four cops (and if he's into shooting cops, he's ready to shoot anybody). and those happen around here. So the cops are judge, jury and executioner now? Ooops, another hallucination there, Bhairitu, On 10/29/2013 09:24 AM, authfriend@... mailto:authfriend@... wrote: But it wasn't a DUI checkpoint. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com mailto:FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, fairfieldlife@yahoogroups.com mailto:fairfieldlife@yahoogroups.com wrote: The photo was allegedly taken at a checkpoint.
