Our meditators represented the highest ideals of citizenship, sacrifice and service. dear Buck, well it was great, especially in the morning, to have the temperatures be a little higher than normal, no rain or snow, etc. And I did wake up feeling lighter. The problem is that all of these methods are based on the concept of past events reproducing themselves in the future, and that is not what actually happens in real life. There are occasionally *new* events, and *new* forces, such as global warming or the unexpected arrival of a huge meteorite. Or even a plague. It is unlikely that our ice age ancestors had too many such beliefs, because they were just trying to make it through the day. However, as the cultures became settled and stable enough to develop a shaman or priest class, these individuals had to do something to establish their right to be in power. So the various forms of predictive technology began to appear. The shaman class would track the movements of the planets and pass their knowledge down from generation to gener- ation, so that they could pull a magical prediction out of their hats and foretell an eclipse. The peons would be wowed by this, and thus keep paying for the shamans' lives. Funny how we still see everything through this Christian prism, without writing, how long would these myths last? I try and imagine what they must have been like and I can't convince myself we were the same. Look at how long art took to evolve from notches on wood to mark how many beaver pelts we owe the tribe up the river, to the caves at Lascaux, it too many thousands of years. And early human self represent- ation went from childlike dolls to more sophisticated forms almost as slowly. And there's things like spears, we had them for 100,000 years before someone thought of throwing them, they used to just stab at the prey, the wounds leave different marks on the bone. So we could have been in the throes of a consciousness evolution up to the birth of civilisation when things began to settle down and we gained our familiar superstitious selves you outline above. Since I have been appointed as the resident hick here I can tell you that when I was growing up I dated a local girl whose mother made the real thing. Mince pies with meat, the old school real deal. Exactly. They're terrified of being what they really are, which is ordinary. I think the end of the world frightens modern new-agers less than the thought that they aren't the most special people in the world who are going to save humanity for eternity. Total hogwash. As far as I can tell, no one who has ever lived on this planet has been fundamentally more important than any other. People may claim they were, or are, but they were all just bozos on this bus, as are we. And that's COOL. Being ordinary is just the BEST. If one accepts that, one can get past the ego-need to assert one's personality and self-importance and try to make others think they're more important. Buck's *whole schtick* is about that kind of self-importance. It makes me wonder sometimes what is *lacking* in him that he feels the need to surround himself (and FF itself) with so many self-importance fantasies. Oh no no no no no no! If you have had sweet potato pie that is indistinguishable from pumpkin pie, you have not had real sweet tater pie. First, you have to use real sweet taters, NOT yams - one of the best to use are white fleshed sweet taters like an O'Henry. Now a lot of the old homemakers used the 1950's type recipe with added sugar and evaporated milk - but if you get good sweet taters you don't need added sugar - just bake 'em, cool 'em, peel 'em and mash them add a little mile or soy milk and if you need sweetener you can add some sugar or stevia, I liked green stevia, but that give an unusual taste (I like it, a lot of people don't) Pumpkin pie really depends on the spices - sweet tater pie is usually just spiced with cinnamon and maybe a dab of nutmeg - if you add the other traditional pumpkin pie spices it will wind up tasting like pumpkin pie. Its all kind of moot for me in the past 6 years or so since my body decided to have type 2 diabetes, but I do have the memory. If you and your husband ever come to South Carolina I will be happy to make you a real sweet tater pie. Except that there are now 7 billion people on earth and a bit too much to support at least with our current infrastructure. That's a little different thing to put into the equation. Doesn't mean anything about the date unless you have some conspirators who believe that doing something ala numerology might help them be successful. The other day as I drove the Twelve Tribes guys back to Missouri I was thinking we should get together and both pray and meditate. They pray and we meditate towards a better end on earth. Twelve Tribes don't like denominational Christians and Mainline Christians don't like either of us. Dancing Rabbits are a bunch of atheist keeping religion at arms length from coming in. But I think they would like our true secular spirituality of the Unified Field and Natural Law. We should all get along as millenarians. -Buck in the Dome

At one point I was sitting beside him in his lazy boy recliner watching some war picture on cable tv and I said (remember that at that time I was a real TM zealot) Daddy what if, what if you really went to a flying demonstration and saw someone actually flying around in the sky!? My oldest sister was a teacher and she initiated the whole family. I meditated until I was about 29 years old at which time I pretty much stopped. I did attend MIU from 1976 until 1980 when I graduated. My oldest sister (the who initiated me) was a professor in the English dept. and my brother in law (Peter Erskine), married to my oldest sister, was dean of faculty and taught in the art dept. My middle sister was an initiator as well and was an art major and her boyfriend also taught at MIU, his name was Jim Weidle. He got a little bit famous for his watercolours later on. Does anyone out there ever wonder if perhaps we're being just a little bit narcissistic when we assume that these times are so much more important than any other time? I mean seriously, bad planetary combinations are going to happen, period. We can't control them. They're going to happen every few months, every few years, and every few centuries. But for some reason a lot of people are trying to make our generation out to be the 'final' generation, the last chance to save humanity, and to me it just seems that we're assigning way too much self-importance to ourselves. I'm not doubting that hard times are going to fall on us. They always do, just like good times. I think people are scared to death of the thought that maybejust perhaps, there might be a chance that we're just another generation, and this is just another century, and just another difficult time in terms of astrology.not the first nor the last.
