John Gray told me they were a lot more fascinated with their little earphone than with their mantra. Thousands came just out of curiosity.

Per M. Flem I suppose. Correct me if I am wrong. He sold his company

spent more time selling. He just wanted to get out.

H, Can someone explain this to me in simpler terms? Was
Maharishi supporting Fidel Castro? If so, why? When did this occur?
What was he trying to acheive? Thanks, I am too dumb to figure this

That looks very interesting! The description mentioned

Does anyone know what that might be in reference to?

 Maharishi University of Management,

Dawn of a New World Order of Peace
‹the Rise of Perfection in World Politics and Economy

Four Nations Identified as Embodying the Cardinal Qualities of an
Ideal
 State

 An Historic Day of
 Great Celebration for the World

Today, Maharishi University of Management celebrates the dawn of a
New World
Order of Peace, as demonstrated by the invincibility of President
Fidel
Castro of Cuba, the freedom of President Robert Mugabe of
Zimbabwe, the
Divine Rulership of President Abdurrahman Wahid of Indonesia, and
the
casting off of corrupt democracy by President Robert Guei of the
Ivory
 Coast.

These four Heads-of-State are four great forerunners of a
forthcoming New
 World Order of Peace.

The present strength of their leadership is the first visible
effect of
improvement in the administration of nations. Their special
qualities of
ideal leadership demonstrate a rise in the world of Global
Administration
through Natural Law, and foreshadow a time soon to come when every
nation
will be sovereign, self-sufficient and invincible, yet will be
united with
all other nations in a world family enjoying perpetual peace.

During the past forty years, nine American Presidents have tried to
overthrow or kill Fidel Castro, and have failed‹he has demonstrated
invincibility in the face of a giant nation of vast destructive
military
 power.

President Robert Mugabe has stood firm against the hypocritical
threats of
Zimbabwe¹s former colonial master, and reminded Britain that
Zimbabwe is not
their colony anymore. He has demonstrated freedom, and stood
against the
savage depredations of the colonial past.

President Wahid, the first President honored as a saint by his
people, has
brought into the world of politics the qualities of purity,
tolerance,
harmony, and devotion to God. He is the First Divine Ruler of
Indonesia.

President Guei has thrown off the faulty and corrupt democratic
system
imposed on so many nations by their former imperial overlords, and
which has
led only to chaos and plundering of the nation by an elite, while
the poor
remain pressed under the weight of their misery.

The world is awakening to the reality that the old order is
passing, and a
New World Order of Peace is dawning. The new order will be
characterized by
these very qualities of the four Presidents‹invincibility,
freedom, divine
rule, and the transformation of corrupt and failing democracies
into
governments that unify and nourish on the basis of the support of
the
 evolutionary power of Natural Law.

A Sovereign Government Accepts A New Principle for the Eradication
of
 Poverty without Foreign Debt

There is a yet another cause for celebration today‹the sovereign
government
of Zimbabwe has accepted a new principle to eradicate poverty
without the
 need for ruinous foreign loans.

A frank evaluation of the performance of the IMF and World Bank
indicates
that they have not eradicated poverty at all. But they have
overshadowed the
sovereignty of nations, placed upon them heavy burdens of debt,
and created
 chaos and social disorder.

Maharishi University of Management has proposed a new approach to
the
eradication of poverty‹ the coupon principle.

In every poor nation there are vast tracts of unused fertile land,
which
have never been polluted by chemicals. This land could be
developed to grow
organic food for export to wealthy countries.

To fund this development the government doesn¹t need to borrow
from abroad.
It just issues an alternative currency‹a coupon‹and loans it to
the project
for the start-up costs, and to immediately improve the farmer¹s
housing and
 living conditions.

The coupon¹s validity is restricted to the locale of the project,
and it
lasts for only a three-year period‹and thus inflation is avoided.
When the
first crop is exported and dollars are earned, the government

At the very least it is approving of. I would certainly call

Today, Maharishi University of Management celebrates the dawn of

Divine Rulership of President Abdurrahman Wahid of Indonesia,
and
 the

These four Heads-of-State are four great forerunners of a

The present strength of their leadership is the first visible

every

will be sovereign, self-sufficient and invincible, yet will be

During the past forty years, nine American Presidents have tried
to

President Robert Mugabe has stood firm against the hypocritical

A frank evaluation of the performance of the IMF and World Bank

Maharishi University of Management has proposed a new approach

In every poor nation there are vast tracts of unused fertile

 which
have never been polluted by chemicals. This land could be

To fund this development the government doesn¹t need to borrow

The coupon¹s validity is restricted to the locale of the

Obviously. Seems as though MMY learned from that if he didn't know already. By

Yowzer! What a bizzaro scenario! So how did it all turn out?

The movement ended up buying or trying to buy a big university in Manila called The University of the East - http://online.ue.edu.ph/manila/

The students werent told this was happening, but we stayed up late the night before it was to be announced, with Maharishi planning a festive welcome for them involving banners, colored lights, etc. When they got there, they freaked out. We were barricaded in our hotel for a month with angry mobs marching in the street below and banner headlines in the newspaper every day. The university still commemorates Maharishis ouster:
http://online.ue.edu.ph/manila/religious.htm

Were
there alot of initiations?

A fair number but not huge. Ads were placed for a TTC. I never read the ads but apparently they werent too clear, as many showed up who didnt know what they were getting into. They thought it was some sort of technical training that would lead to a good job. Most were initiated into TM when they arrived a the TTC. Many left, but many who stayed ended up becoming teachers. A few are still active. I made some good friends there.

How long did you stay in the Philipinnes?

9 months.

(The only thing that could remind me of is Nazi Germany, is that what
you meant?)

Yes.

I suspect his thinking was that dictators, unlike
democratically elected leaders, would be able to
order their governments to fund and promote national
TM programs, making TM free to their citizens, maybe
even requiring them to learn it.

Once there was a sufficient number of people
meditating in these countries, the Maharishi Effect
would take hold and the countries' fortunes would
noticeably improve, serving as a demonstration of
what TM could do for any country.

So the idea was to flatter the dictators as a way

That's my guess...

To commemorate the ouster of the Maharishi from the University now 21
years ago, students and faculty formed an annual living Rosary to
remember and give thanks to God for redeeming the university from
being taken over by a group of monks that promotes transcendental
meditation and the philosophy of perpetuating life in accordance with

of those gloomy days and the significance of reminiscing it. Students

Our prayers included thanking and imploring our good Lord to continue

Maharishi's ingenious but naive.

If you're going to play use a thorn to remove a

is sharp enough and has enough leverage to actually
do the job of removing the second. Otherwise you'll
end up with *two* thorns that need to be removed.

I suspect his thinking was that dictators, unlike
democratically elected leaders, would be able to
order their governments to fund and promote national
TM programs, making TM free to their citizens, maybe
even requiring them to learn it.

Once there was a sufficient number of people
meditating in these countries, the Maharishi Effect
would take hold and the countries' fortunes would
noticeably improve, serving as a demonstration of
what TM could do for any country.

So the idea was to flatter the dictators as a way
of getting them interested in TM.

 That's my guess...

Exactly. Or as Rick put it so well a few posts ago In keeping with
the fundamental TMO principle that the end justifies the means.

That looks very interesting! The description mentioned
that Maharishi hit upon plans that involved third world dictators.
Does anyone know what that might be in reference to? I really
identified with the author's background, since I also learned TM in
the early 70's, lived in FF for 8 years, and visited briefly about 4
years ago. I also found the division in FF between the haves and
haves nots, as he put it, to be rather disturbing. Living in
Fairfield was without a doubt a wonderful and happy time for me, for
the most part. It was pure magic, really. I guess you can't go home
again, because after I visited, I knew I could never go back there.

Guru reality
Geoff Gilpin takes us inside a movement that transformed America's
religious landscape
Frank Bures on Friday 09/08/2006,

Sitting at the Manna Café on Madison's north side, I look across the
table at local author Geoff Gilpin and wonder.
For 33 years, the tall, graying software consultant and technical
writer has been meditating twice a day without missing a sitting. Back
when he started, it was said it took only five to eight years to
become enlightened.

I may be sitting across from a higher being.

I don't claim to be enlightened, says Gilpin, 53, of DeForest, whose
new book on the Transcendental Meditation movement, The Maharishi
Effect: A Personal Journey Through the Movement That Transformed
American Spirituality (Tarcher) comes out next month.

This sets me a little more at ease. Of course, he continues, people
who do claim to have experiences of higher states of consciousness say
that it's really nothing all that unusual, and you realized that you
were there all along. It may be even a very mundane thing.

What does that mean? I do a lot of mundane things every day. Probably
99% of what I do is mundane. Is it possible I, too, might be
enlightened? I would love it if mowing my lawn were actually Nirvana.

This sort of thing is hard to ascertain over an hour at a coffee shop,
but for his part, Gilpin not only doesn't claim to be enlightened, but
he doesn't claim to be able to do any of the things some of
Maharishi's followers claim: levitate, read minds, become invisible,
lower the crime rate, increase crop yield.

These claims are exactly the kinds of things that made Gilpin want to
go back and take a good hard look at the movement he used to be an
integral part of. He has done this brilliantly in his new book, in
which he casts a skeptical, if tender, eye on the path Maharishi and
his followers have taken.

Things were different when Gilpin first discovered TM. It was 1973,
he was living in Green Bay and studying video production at a local
tech school. One day, he stumbled on a poster with a picture of this
Indian dude promoting something called transcendental meditation.
Gilpin was instantly intrigued. It was a bright splash of color in the
monochromatic Midwest of the time.

It was the beginnings of globalization, says Gilpin now, looking
back. People my age were beginning to realize there was more to music
and literature and religion and spirituality than what we grew up with
in our homes and schools. Today you can go down to the local music
store and have your pick of 20 different Celtic bands and 20 different
sitar players. When I was growing up, that was not the case.

The world was opening up, and Gilpin wanted to let it all in, so he
borrowed $35 dollars from his mom to take a course from a guy named
Harry, who ran the Green Bay TM center.

Maharishi was a marketing genius, says Gilpin. He packaged
meditation like McDonald's hamburgers. He had it standardized to the
point where in any city in America you could look up meditation in the
phone book and find one of his TM centers. His people wore suits and
ties. He made it acceptable to Mr. and Mrs. Middle America.

Before long, Gilpin was on a plane to Santa Barbara, Calif., where he
enrolled in Maharishi International University. He followed the school
when it moved to Fairfield, Iowa (where it's still located, now called
Maharishi University of Management).

A few years later, and perhaps a little more enlightened, Gilpin left
Iowa and moved on to other things, working computer and programming
jobs around Wisconsin. After settling in Madison in the early 1990s,
in an early instance of Internet dating, he met a woman from Chicago
named Sarah. The two started corresponding, and before long she moved
to the Madison area, where they both still live today.

In 1999, Gilpin opened one of the many mailings he still got from the
movement, but found something he'd never seen before. It was
Maharishi's Final Warning to the United States. This didn't sound
like the yogi he'd known. If the U.S. didn't stop bombing places like
Yugoslavia, Maharishi warned, soon bombs would start falling on
Washington and New York. I'd never seen anything like that before,
says Gilpin. I realized something was going on there.

But if things had changed in the movement, they had also changed for
Gilpin. By the late '90s, he'd maxed out his computing ambitions. He
was happily married, but something wasn't quite right. So he decided
to go back to school and get a Master of Fine Arts in writing

Dawn of a New World Order of Peace
the Rise of Perfection in World Politics and Economy

Four Nations Identified as Embodying the Cardinal Qualities of an Ideal State

An Historic Day of
Great Celebration for the World

Today, Maharishi University of Management celebrates the dawn of a New World Order of Peace, as demonstrated by the invincibility of President Fidel Castro of Cuba, the freedom of President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, the Divine Rulership of President Abdurrahman Wahid of Indonesia, and the casting off of corrupt democracy by President Robert Guei of the Ivory Coast.

These four Heads-of-State are four great forerunners of a forthcoming New World Order of Peace.

The present strength of their leadership is the first visible effect of improvement in the administration of nations. Their special qualities of ideal leadership demonstrate a rise in the world of Global Administration through Natural Law, and foreshadow a time soon to come when every nation will be sovereign, self-sufficient and invincible, yet will be united with all other nations in a world family enjoying perpetual peace.

During the past forty years, nine American Presidents have tried to overthrow or kill Fidel Castro, and have failedhe has demonstrated invincibility in the face of a giant nation of vast destructive military power.

President Robert Mugabe has stood firm against the hypocritical threats of Zimbabwes former colonial master, and reminded Britain that Zimbabwe is not their colony anymore. He has demonstrated freedom, and stood against the savage depredations of the colonial past.

President Wahid, the first President honored as a saint by his people, has brought into the world of politics the qualities of purity, tolerance, harmony, and devotion to God. He is the First Divine Ruler of Indonesia.

President Guei has thrown off the faulty and corrupt democratic system imposed on so many nations by their former imperial overlords, and which has led only to chaos and plundering of the nation by an elite, while the poor remain pressed under the weight of their misery.

The world is awakening to the reality that the old order is passing, and a New World Order of Peace is dawning. The new order will be characterized by these very qualities of the four Presidentsinvincibility, freedom, divine rule, and the transformation of corrupt and failing democracies into governments that unify and nourish on the basis of the support of the evolutionary power of Natural Law.

A Sovereign Government Accepts A New Principle for the Eradication of Poverty without Foreign Debt

There is a yet another cause for celebration todaythe sovereign government of Zimbabwe has accepted a new principle to eradicate poverty without the need for ruinous foreign loans.

A frank evaluation of the performance of the IMF and World Bank indicates that they have not eradicated poverty at all. But they have overshadowed the sovereignty of nations, placed upon them heavy burdens of debt, and created chaos and social disorder.

Maharishi University of Management has proposed a new approach to the eradication of poverty the coupon principle.

In every poor nation there are vast tracts of unused fertile land, which have never been polluted by chemicals. This land could be developed to grow organic food for export to wealthy countries.

To fund this development the government doesnt need to borrow from abroad. It just issues an alternative currencya couponand loans it to the project for the start-up costs, and to immediately improve the farmers housing and living conditions.

The coupons validity is restricted to the locale of the project, and it lasts for only a three-year periodand thus inflation is avoided. When the first crop is exported and dollars are earned, the government coupon loan is repaid by the project in dollars. So todays government issued coupon becomes tomorrows dollar in the National Treasury.

The profitable organic food exports will ensure that the poverty of the whole nation is rapidly eliminated, as the world is going to need more and more organic food year after year, because of the pollution of the soil in the wealthy countries.

It is a simple, self-sufficient scheme to eradicate poverty without foreign debt, and today the Ministers of the Government of Zimbabwe have applauded and accepted this principle.

Building Maharishi Vedic University at Mosi-oa-TunyaVictoria Fallsa New Spiritual Center of Africa

There is yet one more reason to celebrate todaythe signing of an agreement
