A few more favorite moments: [ SPOILERS! ]

* Skyler's Moment. Walt comes back to the house, after Skyler
has heard (from Marie) that Hank has him in custody. She learns
(through his raving, *still* trying to run his control act on her)
that he (or one of his cronies) has killed Hank. Walt actually
expects her to take Junior and Holly and get into a car with him
and drive away from this. The camera shows her from behind
a kitchen knife rack and a telephone, neither taking any more
significance than the other. She walks towards the camera, and
chooses the knife. She won herself an Emmy in that moment,
and the next, in which she (finally!) says, "Get out!"

* Flynn's Moment. The kid has only had a few minutes (less
than an hour in "real" script time) to process the news that his
father (who he adores and has been completely taken in by) is
a major crimelord, a meth cooker and dealer, a multiple
murderer, and someone who has just wasted his uncle Hank.
The *lack* of hesitation as he dials the police is a testament
to his character, and Walt's lack of it.

* Todd's Moment. Just when we've written him off as Opie, he
not only talks his uncle Jack into sparing Jesse, and then sets
him working as a chained slave. At this point I'm really hoping
that the kid gets into Lydia's pants, because he deserves what
he'll get. :-)

* The Diaper Change In A Public Restroom Moment. Been there,
done that. But without the pressure of having had your entire
life crumble around you in the space of a few hours.

* W.W. Phone Home. Walt's phon

The Sons of Anarchy are much better shots. Quite a season opener
there. This season Peter Weller and Kim Dickens join the series.

Yup, good episode and cliffhanger. A bunch of bad shooters though. ;-)

Walt and family will probably head off to Argentina and join Dexter and
family. Then we'll have a new family show.

Bryan Cranston is currently playing Lyndon Johnson on stage back east.

watched the latest episode, To'hajiilee. You might
also want to avoid reading it if you haven't watched
the season at all, but have intentions of doing so
someday. Ignore this warning at your peril, because
the only person you'll be screwing over is yourself,
depriving yourself of the pleasure of being surprised
by a series that specializes in *never* allowing
things to turn out quite the way that the audience
expects them to.

Even though I may be writing only to azgrey, because
few others have admitted to being BB fans, I have to
say a little something about this latest episode. I
consider it a veritable masterpiece of moviemaking.
I've now watched it twice, and will watch it again
before seeing next week's episode.

The first level on which it's amazing is direction.
BB has always had great directors, unafraid to use
odd camera angles, compositions, and cutting to weave
their magic. And one of them, Michelle MacLaren, has
directed 11 episodes, in addition to serving as
executive producer and executive co-producer for most
of the series. This is by far her best episode. If
the powers that be in film don't offer her a shot at
directing a major movie, they're crazy. The way she
ended this episode *could* have been the ending of
the series as a whole, and it would have stood on
its own, and would have been considered better than
the ending of "The Sopranos."

But, of course, she *didn't* end it there, because
it's "Breaking Bad," and nothing turns out the way
you'd expect it to.

Another level of brilliance in this episode is seeing
Walt's game run on *him*. He's been a master at fig-
uring out what other characters' weaknesses are, and
then playing off of those weaknesses to set them up
to do what he wants them to do. In this episode, Jesse
finally gets to run that number on Walt.

One of the themes of the episode I loved was "last
glances" or "last words" being exchanged between the
characters. Walt's glance at his wife and son couldn't
have been more poignant if it were the last glimpse he
ever gets of them, and given BB, it may well be. And
there is another husband-and-wife phone call that ends
in joy, but for all we know may be looked back on quite
differently in the future. That's the thing about BB;
you never quite know what's going to happen, and the
action and dialogue sets things up to "work out" inter-
estingly, *whatever* happens.

In terms of sheer suspense and "I could not *possibly*
go to the bathroom if I needed to" edge-of-your-seat
suspense, the last 20 minutes of this episode rank up
there with the best such moments in movie history. And
even *then* they (the writers) keep setting you up
and playing to *your* weaknesses, just as Walt does.
*Everyone* has relished seeing the scene where someone
gets to Mirandize Walter White/Heisenberg, and say,
"You have the right to remain silent." And you finally
get to see it, and even see the gloating Snoppy-dance
of joy performed by the person saying it. But even that
is prelude, occurring just before all hell breaks loose.

One of the moments I liked the best in the episode was
when Todd, with his handsome, Opie-like looks and not-
quite-the-sharpest-pencil-in-the-box ways actually tries
to hit on Lydia, whom he is obviously way in lerve with.
Todd is deeper than he looks, because he's really the
one orchestrating the whole take-the-business-over-from-
Walt thang, but he is SO out of his depth when dealing
with Lydia, and doesn't realize it. He's like a former
choirboy interviewing for a minor position in Hell.
Lydia is Satan's main squeeze. He *really* doesn't
know who he's hitting on.

Altogether, this fourth-from-last episode of BB leaves
me (and every other critic who has reviewed it) panting
for more. This episode was so strong that it could have
served as the ending of the series, and most people
would have been happy with that ending. So if there are
three more episodes to go, what on *earth* do Vince
Gilligan and his team of writers and directors have
planned for us as the real ending? The mind boggles.

Damn funny, Alex. Miley Cyrus's twerking (moving her ass like a bowl of Jello)
wasn't nearly as surprising or entertaining as Walt's confession. The writers
aced the perfect turning of the tables gotcha moment I've ever seen.

By the way, as of today *twerking* is in Britian's Oxford Dictionary.

To echo your chosen title for this thread,
how fuckin' chilling was it to see the video
that Walt makes, after having seen him record
the first sentence of it, but then having to
wait for the rest of it through 7 minutes of
another face-to-face confrontation with Hank.

That one surprised even me, and I've "foreseen"
some of the evilnessitude of which Walt has been
capable before. Chilling really IS the only word.

On another front, it was pretty obvious that the
Jesse shit would hit the fan sooner or later,
and it seems that it's sooner. This should be
interesting...

(I just hit the send by mistake.) If you want to shovel poop it'll have to be
at 7am because that is when we start the stalls and feeding. We have memory
foam or feather pillows so bring your latex. Lock the doors all you want.

It's funny actually because we used to run a bed and breakfast at our former
house so this all seems perfectly normal.

You can sleep in as long as you like just no ridiculous sounds if you do the
flying sidhi. I am a happy person morning or evening; I basically hit the floor
running in the morning and don't fdrink coffee but my husband makes a good cup.

just deal with it right? :-). Love, xoxo.

2013-08-24 Thread obbajeeba
Hahaha. I should have clarified. hahaha.
Morning wake time. 6am.
Oh good.
I hope you don't mind a happy person in the morning.
Is it okay if I drink 2 and a half cups of caffeinated coffee, twice a day
(morning and tea time)?
Should I bring my own latex pillow? (of course I will. :))
When I meditate, I do it in my own business (can I lock the guest bedroom
door?)
I can help shovel hay or poop if needed. No lazy over stay yer welcome house
guest I will be.

Ravi Baby, you know you have a standing invitation to my abode - always and
forever (is that redundant?) And no varmints, we'll prepare the special feast
for you but no horse meat, I'm afraid, they're off the menu. I better get a
guest list going, we'll start an alphabetical order, I'll be first since I am
an "A".

I have a better idea. You can occupy an actual bedroom and not even have to
share it with Rory - he can have his own too. As far as varmints go we have
quail, rats, mice, shrews, voles, feral cats, tame dogs lots of bird life
including owls and vultures and hawks. For a more substantial meal there are
always the deer, though. Or, my husband could do a slow cooked smoked turkey on
the BBQ with all the fixin's. Just give me your arrival date. We are 5 minutes
from the airport or ferry.

I was actually thinking of something more subtle, like living in a refrigerator
carton, with a small campfire, on the edge of your property, preferably hidden
by foliage on all sides, foraging squirrels and other varmints, for awhile. The
time will go by in a flash.

Please let me know if this works for you, and I can be there, perhaps
coincident with Rory's visit!

Wow, Ann; that would be great! And please feel free to do as you please here --
raining pamphlets or knocking on Dome doors or whatever -- I am told the men's
Dome could use a new roof if you feel so inclined! :-)

Yes, the way we play Bananagrams is exactly like Scrabble, only with no turns,
no scoring, and no board, and a fluid engagement, with people coming to put in
a word or two, or to stay all afternoon, or somewhere in between. It's more
like constructing a community crossword puzzle -- the only goals are to make it
as dense as possible, and to use up all the letters before the cafe closes.

Yippie! Never been to Victoria.
Oh boy, this is going to be a fun party!
The funniest thing, it really could end up happening at some point.

I've been to Victoria or actually passed through it on the way to a
residence course at a resort on an Island off Nanaimo. Spent the
weekend throwing up because I got food poisoning from a local restaurant
where some of us had dinner the night we arrived. Vancouver Island is a
lovely place to visit.

Geez, I think it may be. There's this guy who lives in my house, cooks me
meals, shares my bed and calls me wife and he seems to think he can stay for as
long as he likes and even claim he owns half the place. So, I guess the answer
to that is "yes".

Funnily enough, I have actually been considering that. I actually have quite a
few friends who live there (!) and it would be a hoot (as the Canadians say) to
stop by. I am not to be trusted however and you might find me distributing
leaflets (although probably not from a helicopter) or banging on the doors of
the dome during program just for fun so I would have to be closely monitored.
However, I am good company and always up for an adventure or a game of
bananagrams (hopefully it is a bit like Scrabbles). In the meantime we have
lots of room at the 'inn' as long as you don't mind dogs and horses.

I have never been to Victoria, and have always wanted to go!! On a related

someone else's property or horse farm continuously for seven years, they can
then claim it, through squatter's rights?

Yippie! Never been to Victoria.
Oh boy, this is going to be a fun party!
The funniest thing, it really could end up happening at some point.
Judy peers through the Turq with eyes of steely knives, oh, the whole shabang,
etc., etc., etc. The FFL Reality Television Show. Rick sells his FFL rights
(payoff and royalties) all writer's keep their copyright, the DL Foundation/TMO
and other interests get donations to keep Buck happy, Mr. Price can get back in
business. Ravi can moonlight and vacation at the same time. Emily will be happy
to...you know.. she will just become happier. Dr. Dumbass and his one liners,
Share, learning a 3 dimensional bananagram game and laundry at the house, and
Ann, gets to be Ann and enjoy her position of reality!
Alex can move out of the shack and up-grayed that dell, all the other religious
(I know it is not a religion ;))TMOer's who I am sorry I am getting tired of
typing names and apologized it I missed you, only purely by accident, just look
at the post count and add to this. I need to sleep. Oh the English dude, Sep,
and Crop Circle Nabby.
You guys want to turn this FF around? There is not better way to get people's
interest than with the honestly and back stabbing of the FFL Yahoo GRoup
Message Board. By morning I am going to read this and be totally embarrassed
because I am not proof reading. Ha! As if I ever do! That is Judy's Job. All I
know, this is one heck of a group, no matter what Buck says. You guys and girls
are better than Facebook by far. MJ, you too. Merunanda and Card and even you
irnanitea and Grandpa Xeno! Yes, Rory, Bharitu... cut and paste the whole
current list:> 109 doctordumbass

His statement can only draw one (He thinks "They, their," as one
entity of all those he imagines who think he is bad.) conclusion:
http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/paranoia

He might want to seek some medical help about this situation.

Imagine that, what a strange thing for people to do. Gosh, insane! To have a

I knew it, you were going to just have to fall into your tendency to project
your perceptions on the outside world as if they were real. Shame, shame. And,

No, the more you withdraw from FFL (you don't seem to be withdrawing, you're
still thinking about it and talking about everyone here as much as always) the
less we will likely need to address and correct your misperceptions on the
'real' world. The only result of your withdrawing completely is that you won't
be here to talk to anymore. But you don't need to play that game; whether
you're here or not neither makes you more or less important to anything.

One wonders what the belief of Barry's IS that causes
him to color his own perceptions and shape them such
that the ego-fantasy that "Barry Is Bad" has taken over
our lives has taken over his life.

(Does he realize we've been making fun of him?)

I just love how you managed to sneak the word "reified"
into a discussion group that's been discussing human
beings' tendency to project their beliefs onto the
outside world, so much so that they actually consider
their perceptions real. :-)

What I'm noticing is that the writers seem to be
"closing the circle" on the title of their show.
*Everyone* seems to be "breaking bad" now. Walt's
a done deal, and so was Skyler once she found out
what he'd been up to and concealed it. But now
Hank is so OBSESSED with "getting" Walt that he's
willing to break the law *to* "get" him. And Marie
is willing to grab her sister's baby and steal him.
So your plot point fear might be right on, with
Junior joining the BB crowd soon.

Interestingly, the only person so far displaying
any remorse over any of his actions is Jesse. ALL
of the others are so lost in a narcissistic fog
that they cannot *conceive* of their actions as
being anything but "right."

What I'm finding amusing is how strongly Hank's
obsession with "getting" the object of his obsession
parallels the last few weeks (not to mention the
last few years) here on Fairfield Life. I'm pretty
sure that none of the perps *realize* how badly
they're obsessing, because pretty much the only
people still willing to talk with them are their
fellow perps, but it's been fascinating. The more
I "withdraw" from FFL, the more they obsess on me.

One wonders what the belief they all share IS that
causes them to color their own perceptions and
shape them such that the "Barry Is Bad" meme has
basically taken over their lives.

Maybe it's just the narcissism thang again. A
fanatical cult belief that "I Am Good And Better
Than Everyone Else" may *always* lead to having
to find a target out in the world to be better
*than*. Anyway, it's all very amusing...

Thought you might like it. WHAT a ROOM that
must be (the "Breaking Bad" writers' room),
just dripping with creativity. And they've
really pulled out all the stops for the
"last eight."

No prob. Just watched it. I really have been
busy being un-busy here in the French country-
side, and only got to it this morning, but I
did watch it. Brilliant, as usual, with not
only all the actors pulling out all the stops,
but the cinematographers as well. *Astounding*
compositions and juxtapositions of color; I
particularly liked the low shot of Lydia's
red-soled Lubotons descending the ladder into
the underground meth lab.

That would certainly be a plot twist worthy
of these writers, yes.

There's LOTS of dark places they could go to still.
Jesse finding out who allowed his girlfriend to die,
for example.

I'm trying NOT to anticipate, just "going with the
flow," as the river flows towards the waterfall.

It really is fascinating watching a show like this
out in the countryside in the Gard (this region of
France), which looks a lot like New Mexico, only
with a few more trees. The house we're renting is
at the outskirts of a very small village (total
population probably less than 200), and other than
the occasional sound of a car going by, all I hear
is the wind in the trees, a few dogs barking, goats
bleating, and a few birds. It makes a great "back-
drop" for seeing (hearing?) the sights and sounds
(non-sounds?) of New Mexico again. I wouldn't mind
having one of those barrels of cash Walt buried,
so I could afford to buy a place here...

Great article Mr. Bee. Prolly right that I will read

In one of the many recent interviews I have seen, Vince

Walt Jr/Flynn has been absent since asking permission to go to

Sky and change it all up, again.

Or not. Seeing the sweet natured disabled kid sucking the glass
dick would take the show just about as dark as it could ever go.

No I did not Barry2. Did'nt know it even existed. Thank you for pointing
it out to me. Earlier in the week the BB website wouldn't let me watch the
segment you referred to, only a highlight portion, because I couldn't
sign-in from one of the 4 cable companies they gave as options. Today
it streamed clear as day. Go figure.

There is an interview with Dean Norris floating around, done after this
episode was aired, in which he points out that the garage scene was filmed
2 completely different ways and he was not privy to which would be used.
The one not aired was the script version and was protracted violence.
Apparently Norris and Cranston felt it could and should be played differently.
as we saw.

The look on Walt's next-door-neighbor Carol's
face as he says, "Hi Carol."

Lydia, showing up at the car wash. I can tell
already that Lydia is going to be Big Trouble,
possibly the reason Walt needs that M-60.

Good catch. I didn't notice that. I was wondering
where that line came from when I watched it the
second time.

A famous story from Alfred Hitchcock:

There is a distinct difference between "suspense"
and "surprise," and yet many pictures continually
confuse the two. I'll explain what I mean.

We are now having a very innocent little chat.
Let's suppose that there is a bomb underneath this
table between us. Nothing happens, and then all of
a sudden, "Boom!" There is an explosion. The public
is surprised, but prior to this surprise, it has
seen an absolutely ordinary scene, of no special
consequence. Now, let us take a suspense situation.
The bomb is underneath the table and the public
knows it, probably because they have seen the
anarchist place it there. The public is aware the
bomb is going to explode at one o'clock and there
is a clock in the decor. The public can see that
it is a quarter to one. In these conditions, the
same innocuous conversation becomes fascinating
because the public is participating in the scene.
The audience is longing to warn the characters on
the screen: "You shouldn't be talking about such
trivial matters. There is a bomb beneath you and
it is about to explode!"

In the first case we have given the public fifteen
seconds of surprise at the moment of the explosion.
In the second we have provided them with fifteen
minutes of suspense. The conclusion is that whenever
possible the public must be informed. Except when
the surprise is a twist, that is, when the unexpected
ending is, in itself, the highlight of the story.

look forward to...
