business it is a longer process and produces more toxic waste than
sweet or light crude. There was an article that said that the
"mega horde" was in liquid asphald, but that's not what is being used
right now, as far as I know. You're the one that claimed that itw as of
significantly lower quality than the rest of the world's oils. Why don't
  YOU back up your claim?

Spair, quite frankly, I could care less whether you believe me or not and
I'm not going to go to the trouble to research it for you. If you feel compelled
to buy CITGO and don't want to feel any guilt , that's fine with

Oil should be at about $1.00 a gallon. But we have a cartel

I heard a scientist on Coast to Coast talk show who felt that the
production of oil under the earth was the result of a
natural 'fermentation/distillation process and NOT from petrified
dinosaurs since many of the oil finds never included the existence of
dinosaur remains, i.e. the Gulf of Mexico. For this reason, there is
an
unlimited amount of oil. Personally, because I believe oil with all
its
by products is perfectly inimical to the life here on earth as we
know
it, other fuel sources are recommended

We are over stocked with oil at this time. The Saudi's told us earlier this
year they would increase output and we have been buying up every bit we could

for many reasons. Some speculated war with Iran, others thought that
Hurricanes this year would shut down Gulf of Mexico production, there was a
 fear at
one time that the BP oil pipeline would be shut down for months but none of
these things have occurred. I would also bet that refineries have been
operating at peak production with the glut of oil reserves we now have. I
 have also
noticed more ethanol blends being sold which would stretch that supply of
refined gas causing us to require less crude. The bad news is that it's only
 tem
porary so enjoy it while you can. The good news is that there has been a
major oil find in the Gulf of Mexico that is estimated could supply 11% of
 our
current needs and there is more oil out there to be found. Combine that with
developing alternative sources of energy and I don't see doom and gloom.
 But
conspiracy theories are more fun, aren't they? P.S. Venezuelan oil is
very heavy crude and has a very high sulfur content and requires much more
refining to make good gasoline and it also produces more toxic waste from
 that
refining process. That is why I have never bought CITGO.

Where di you find this statistic? I checked online. Most curde oil is
considered somewhat
high in sulfur content. I couldn't find reports saying that Venuzela's crude is
signficantly
worse than the world average in that regard.

BTW, a huge part of our oil comes from Venuzuela. Just because you don't buy

I don't think I provided any statistics in my comment Spair. I repeated
what I have heard mentioned many times in the past and more recently by experts
in the oil industry. Venezuelan crude is called heavy crude and is harder to
pump out of the ground and refine. Oil from the middle east is usually referred
to as sweet crude because it is light and easy to pump with less trash in
it. As far as being absolutely sure I'm not buying gasoline made from
Venezuelan oil, you're right, you never really know , but I do know that CITGO
is made from Venezuelan heavy crude.

[FairfieldLife] Re: Gas prices

2006-09-24 Thread davidchaladoff
Patrick

How are you?

Gas prices are subject to crude oil prices in that gas is made from
crude. As crude prices rises, gas price rise. There is a margin that
always exits between the two. The exact spread between the two may
flucuate, but there is always a spread.

Crude prices have had about a $20 - $30 fear premium built into
them for a while due to geopolitical fears of disruptions of supply
mostly from the middle east (and the Lebanon War with Isreal and
Iran Saber rattling, etc) some disruptions from Nigeria. Opec has
also been pumping full out, because at $70 per barrel, they are
making a $fortune$.

There was also a huge amount of sepculation on crude in the
futures market by hedge funds which further exacerbated the price.
Now there is a glut of crude on the world markets and hedge funds
are liquidateing their long posistions in crude, hence $61.59 crude
price close Friday. Opec is also now trying to get producing
countries to cut back supply to keep the prices from falling too far
and too fast.they ususually do not abide by these quotas, so
most likely in the short term OPEC production will remain constant
which will help further drive oil prices down.
Crude prices will most likely end up somewhere between $40 - $50 per
barrel within the next 12 months. (Unless of course there are major
supply disruptions by a middle east war etc.) So our gas prices will
moderate due to crude prices moderating.

Gasoline prices are also subject to a seasonal price flucuations,
spring and summer gas prices are higher due to higher demand for gas
for the summer driving season. Katrina also knocked out some
refineries last year and that had a negative impact on the price of
gas too as supplies were disrupted. There has also been a shortage
of refineries in the US partially due to the cost of building them
and the envirnmental rules and laws that govern them...in other
words oil companies and refineries have been not been building them
over the past 10 - 20 years to keep up with the pace of growing gas
demand. Finally every state has different requirements for pollution
standards for gasoline which creates a problem for refineries.

It is true as stated by others on the post that the actual wholesale
price for gas and crude oil is determined on the futures markets,
(and in the cash spot market too). Supply, demand, fear,
expectations and speculation get built into the price of oil or any
commodity for that matter.

I have not addressed all the issues surrounding your question, but
these are some of the major points,

Regards,

David

refining to make good gasoline and it also produces more toxic waste from

that

refining process. That is why I have never bought CITGO.

Where di you find this statistic? I checked online. Most curde oil is
considered somewhat
high in sulfur content. I couldn't find reports saying that Venuzela's crude
is signficantly
worse than the world average in that regard.

BTW, a huge part of our oil comes from Venuzuela. Just because you don't buy
driectly
from CITCO doesn't mean you're not buying gas refubed frin Venezuelen crude.

I don't think I provided any statistics in my comment Spair. I repeated what
I have heard mentioned many times in the past and more recently by experts
in the oil industry. Venezuelan crude is called heavy crude and is harder to
pump out of the ground and refine. Oil from the middle east is usually
referred
to as sweet crude because it is light and easy to pump with less trash in
it. As far as being absolutely sure I'm not buying gasoline made from
Venezuelan oil, you're right, you never really know , but I do know that CITGO
 is
made from Venezuelan heavy crude.

The three biggest factors in the fluctuation of gas
 prices are:

 1. Futures trading.
 2. Futures trading.
 3. Futures trading.

So what is the biggest factors that influence futures trading?

1. Futures trading.
2. Futures trading.
3. Futures trading.

So what influences THAT?

It's future's trading all the way down...

Because a massive oil field was recently discovered that is controlled
by US companies and allied states in the Gulf of Mexico which will be
enough for the North America for the next 20 years and
