Bramble still mild seizures
I discovered yesterday that Bramble is still having very mild seizures - however, now that the revolution is out of his system the seizures are very mild compared to afterrevolution was given to him. He just freezes with his jaw open for seconds then carries on. He won't eat for a few hoursafter but then eats normally and has eaten his breakfast and medication. All in all - it was much milder and the same as when he first came from the sanctuary. I can't even rub rescue remedy on his ears due to treating him for ringworm around his ears - will mention it to the vet when we go next week. Buddy is going for her first visit tonight - she has stated sneezing and has a runny nose - hope it's not calicivirus again and hope Bramble doesn't start with it again if it is. Sheila, I would guess because in the wild they would be eating birds, frogs, snakes, and other small mammals, not chicken, beef, lamb, and other things that are in the diets we feed them. Different meats have different proteins and vitamins. A cat has some very delicate requirements and can get very sick if they aren't met. Taurine is a biggy, it is usually found in organ meats, atleast in chickens (hearts are a good source and also hard to come by), so taurine would need to be supplemented. It's a tricky thing and that's why I've decided to go raw instead of cooked. I couldn't find ANY source that told me what supplements exactly cats would need in a well balanced cook food. I even had my vet consult with UC Davis Veterinary school, which by the way I'm very dissappointed in. She emailed them at the email supplied on their website for consulting and after almost two weeks still hadn't heard anything, so she printed everything out and mailed it to them. After about another week they finally called and asked some more questions, they charge $130.00 dollars for a consult and if my cat was having serious problems would have been NO help. I called her and she said they hadn't charged her yet so I told her to forget it, and started researching raw. I don't have faith in them, their customer service is p*ss poor and they weren't getting any of my money, I'd rather make a donation to the rescue the vet I've been corresponding with works with. Hi Gloria, I'm sorry to hear Lancelot is still having problems, but glad he's made some improvement. The blood test results sound promising actually. Do you have him on Transfer Factor? Is he still eating okay? I hate pumping them full of meds, but what are you going to do? We have to try to help in the best ways we know how. Nina Gloria B. Anyone else experience this?
Hi - I haven't posted here in a while, my sweet little Roxie died a couple of months ago and I just had to take a little break. We still have Ollie, who will be 1 at the end of July. He was born in a litter of 3 and is the last one left. We have since found out that his mother is FeLv positive, so she passed it to the babies at birth. I have found that one of the most frustrating things about this diease is not knowing what to expect. Ironically, Ollie was the one in the litter that showed symptoms first. In January, we found him lying in his litter box, he was panting, vomiting, running a fever. Thats when we had him tested. Since February he is like clockwork.every 10 days he has a day that he vomits, sometimes has diarreah, drools a lot (I assume from the upset stomach) and will not eat (understandably). We give him a dose of medicine for the nausea (which he hates, but it does seem to help) and then he sleeps more than usual for the next couple of days, but by the third day, he is completly normal. And I mean really normala regular kittenplaying, jumping, running, etc. We have him on Interferon and any vitimins that I can get him to take. I am thankful that he always gets better, but it just seems strange that he is SO regular. For the last couple of months he has been on Clavamox for some sneezing and coughing and as long as he takes it, he has no symptoms. But, if he misses a dose or 2 (or throws it up), we do see an increase in sneezing. I am so thankful that he is as well as he is.last time we were at the vet, he had even gained a pound, but its just so different than his brother and sister. They both got to the point that they couldn't breath and wouldn't eat. I am almost afriad to be encouraged and think that maybe he is just he miracle baby that will make it. He was the biggest in the litter, could that make a difference? He just always seems to get better. Sorry for the long, rambling post. This group is awesome, I have learned so much. My 19 year old frail Fu is constipated. The vet said to give him 2 ml. lactulose morning and evening. I gave him the evening dose a little while ago while I was assist feeding him as taking lactulose on an empty stomach sometimes makes him nauseous. I would give him 1/4 or 1/2 Pepcid a half hour before feeding him, then feed him food, and then maybe afterwards give him a little bit of Lactulose. The other thing you can give for constipation that is milder on the system, and also combats nausea, is Slippery Elm. You can buy it in capsules or bulk at a health food store. I would mix maybe 1/8 teaspoon of it into his food to start and see what happens. You can't really overdose on Slippery Elm, and it should help rather than worsen his nausea. But it may take longer to ease the constipation than Lactulose does. The other natural remedy is Pumpkin. In a very bad case of constipation where I was afraid to wait for Slippery Elm to take effect I did use Lactulose. But even if you use that now, once he goes I would put him on a maintenance dose of Slippery Elm with his food (or mixed with a little chicken baby food-- I feed it to mine that way) to prevent constipation and the need for Lactulose in the future. If he's got a problem with veggies, or won't eat the pumpkin, you could also try psyllium to add fiber and help maintain his function. The Pepcid is a good idea, remember to use the original strength. Michelle and Nina - thanks for answering so fast. Which should I try first - the Slippery elm or the pumpkin? I have both. Poor Fu doesn't want to eat - I think it's the constipation. The vet also thinks his intestinal cancer is probably no longer in remission, but he has been eating up to the time he became constipated. I just gave him a little Laxaire. He's back on Leukeran now and his 5 mg of pred had been increased to twice a day. Fu is also hyperthyroid and takes methimazole; he also gets fluids with potassium. I just failed with the fluids; he is so dehyrated that the needle went through and came out the other side - so I'll try again in a half hour. The foozer is a black and brown tabby cat with the cutest little mischievous face. He was a big boy but now he's down to 4 lbs 11 oz - which is up one ounce from last week. Thank heaven for small favors.
