Re: Bandy is better
I use mane and tail groom, for horses, with my cats with ringworm. I'm not sure about the ingredients or using it on immune compromised cats. Yall are teaching me a lot about that. I think it is worth checking out the mane and tail groom to make sure there is nothing in it that will hurt him. - Original Message - From: Nina [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Friday, June 23, 2006 5:50 pm Subject: Re: Bandy is better To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Kerry, I wonder if there is something, I don't know, maybe some homeopathic remedy that we're missing to help him with this darn rw. Gina I had a kitten just recently retest neg after testing pos. I only waited 3 days, though, because I wanted to get the rest of the litter tested. Since every kitten tested neg, the vet told me I could consider the first test result a bad test. So there is hope:)

Miss Kitty has gone to Rainbow Bridge
Hi folks, I have only been lurking on the list for the past year or so. Some of you may remember me. I lost Cher, Midnight, Lisa and Suzy to the leukemia in a 6 month period in 2004. Today, we came home to find their mother, Miss Kitty dead. She had been having some kidney issues related to the leukemia, but was responding to the medications. Just last night, she had caught a small lizard. She was OK this morning. She ate her breakfast, she's been scratching on her scratching pad and acting only a little less than she would normally. This whole ride with her and the kittens has been tough. It's our first experience with FeLV and it's been HELL! I still wouldn't have put her the kittens to sleep when we rescued them in July 2003.I just couldn't do it. Our vet recommended the same fate for Miss Kitty when we took her there about a month ago when her kidney issues flaired. We gave her 3 years of life that she would not have had otherwise and I don't regret any of it. She was a sweet, precious soul who didn't deserve the fate God handed her. May she rest softly with her babies at Rainbow Bridge. Please add her to the Candlelight Service for Monday. Thanks for being there when I needed you all. Brenda Lyons
Question.
I just put my 11 month old kitten to sleep yesterday because he was infected. He had a(red or white) blood count 07 seven. I am not sure which color the vet told me. But, I had him vaccinated twice for this. How can they contract this if they have been vaccinated AGAINST it? I do not understand!! Thanks, Rebecca Ryan

RE: Need prayers for my Hannibal -getting blind
Hey,As far as I know nothing else is going on. We've run bloodwork several times. He did have a bout with bartonella a while back. I really don't know what his blood pressure is. I just know when he started losing his sight they ran all kinds of bloodwork on him and said the only thing wrong was that his blood pressure was 'through the roof' and causing bleeding in his eyes. He was supposed to be on norvasc, but it was such a pain to get him to take it I had decided to let it be. After that I played around with the med. some more and finally got him to take it in some fancy feast, so he takes it now. His last checkup the doctor said his blood pressure looked good.. but he still seems to be losing sight to me. I'm taking him in next month for a recheck on that and the bartonella as well. We'll see then. He's about 11 years old or so. He's lost weight. but not rapidly. I feel like something else is going on that we haven't found. We even ran another leukemia test just to check, but he's still negative. He can see some. It's kind of like he misjudges distances, etc. when he jumps on the sofa or whatever. I think he's losing his hearing too though, because he's stopped running when I get out the vacuum cleaner as well! tHideyo Yamamoto [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:Tonya,, I am so sorry about your kitty,, is your kitty a CRF kitty, too? marketing ideas for Elizabeth
Just wanted to share the ideas. My step-brother, Johnathan Rand, began writing children's stories back in '99. He started out by going around northern MI to gas stations, gift shops, restaurants and hotels and leaving his books without asking for $ up front. He would give them $1 for each that was sold, and take back the ones that didn't. They began selling, esp. to tourists, and by 2003, he had over a million books in print. Now he has over two, maybe even three, I'm not sure anymore! He outsells Harry Potter in MI. So if you every have the time and inclination, it might work for you, too! Re: o/t advice needed
Gosh Kerry! How is your father on top of everything else? I think of you often. As far as the cat spraying, I would recommend she start over and crate the cat for a while so the 2 can get used to each other more gradually. Then let it have a small room like a bathroom, etc. If it sprays it goes back into the crate.. etc Is the cat neutered? Also I'd try the feliway dispensers. And if none of that shows promise I'd try the kitty prozac ( I don't remember what it's called.)Good luck with everything. Plumbing problems suck. Re: SPCA's Views on FelV
The thing is.. at our shelter they test cats/kittens on intake. Then those cats and kittens are exposed to other cats and kittens. There aren't enough cages to truly keep the cats separated. We also have an 'open' cat room with no cages. The cats are NEVER retested after 90 days. If they get that first negative they tell everyone their cats are negative. If there are cats in there who have been recently exposed and tested false positive it is never known. Positive cats are immediately put down. So false positives who could really be negative are put down for no reason. We are all going to die from something. Cats can have so many things wrong with them... heart conditions, kidney problems, etc. just like people. I wish they would not test at shelters. tonya[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Testing is VERY expensive when you take in numbers of cats. It's hard to break even as it is... most people don't want to pay over $70 for a cat's adoption fee... the FIV/FELV combo snap test is $35. Add the spay/neuter... and you're already losing money. I have never ever once made any profit on saving a single cat in my 1 care. My typical loss is upwards of $50 for every cat I rescue, just in vet work, that's not saying how much in food, litter, and supplies I spend for every cat. I am really lucky that I can get cats tested for $16 each. I do have to wait, sometimes for hours, though. We charge a higher adoption fee and I still lose enough money that I can't take in any more fosters. Missy has to go to the kitty cardiologist and we are having layoffs at my job. Adoptions are down this year too.Oh, I also have a wondeful vet who doesn't charge me an exam fee. He loses money on me big time. I still spent over $125 in meds just for fosters in the month of May, not including my own cats.

As you all know, our sweet little orange/white tabby Pekoe (for orange pekoe tea) went to the Bridge May 23rd. Prior to that, he had been doing very well on Interferon Alpha and Prednisone since Jan. The two things he loved most in his life were eating and curling up on our laps.Several weeksbefore he died, he slowly went off his food and began vomiting occasionally. He was definitely not the type of cat that would have appreciated being syringe-fed. We always said, if he ever goes off his food, we'll know that something is seriously wrong with him. Right up until the end, he was still taking food on his own but with much coaxing. We are thankful that we didn't have to resort to syringe-feeding him. His last blood work about a week before showed declines in several of the numbers, and an X-ray indicated something was wrong with his small intestines. Rather than put him through any invasive tests/procedures, wedecided to let him go with dignity. A vet and vet tech came to our home, and Pekoe passed comfortably while curled up in his most favourite place - on my husband's lap.We told him we loved him and to look for Digby at the Bridge. We had him separately cremated, and his ashes returned in an urn. He's back with usnow, beside his buddy Digby. As with Digby, weoffered for our vet clinic to do a post-mortem for learning purposes, for any knowledge they may gain with FelV. It is suspected that he may have had an infiltrative lymphoma, which eases our minds a little that we spared him any realpain and suffering. Re: How is Shakiti today?
Elizabeth, So glad you hear Shakiti *wants* to eat, and is happily eating from your hand. Give the little sweetheart a big hug from me, Kerry - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Sent: Saturday, June 24, 2006 4:37 PM Subject: Re: How is Shakiti today? He tried to take a few bites from the dried food buffet today but wasn't able to keep it down. I'm still giving him something for upset tummy and he's doing a good job of letting mommy feed him the a/d. He seems to be feeling good otherwise though and he's been a complete angel about taking his medicine. In a message dated 6/24/2006 3:56:49 P.M. Re: Miss Kitty has gone to Rainbow Bridge
Dear Brenda I'm so, so sorry for what you've been through these last couple of years--many of us here can sadly relate only too well--and I'm thinking of you tonight and crying with you as you grieve for your precious Miss Kitty. As others have said, I'm just so glad Miss Kitty and her kittens knew what it was to be dearly loved right to the end. Thanks for caring for these sweet souls, Kerry - Original Message - From: Tim Lyons To: Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Sent: Friday, June 23, 2006 7:50 PM Subject: Miss Kitty has gone to Rainbow Bridge Hi folks, I have only been lurking on the list for the past year or so.
Re: marketing ideas for Elizabeth
That is such a fabulous success story---congrats to your step-brother! - Original Message - From: gwork To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Sent: Saturday, June 24, 2006 9:21 PM Subject: marketing ideas for Elizabeth Just wanted to share the ideas.
Thanks so much Tonya! (tried to email you directly as sooo o/t but non possibile--apologies to all) My dad is just extraordinary---he has been diagnosed as having stage 4 cancer (terminal; no treatment) but he's carrying on with a more or less normal life...a friend who called me while I was in Scotland to ask how he was was as amazed by my reply asI was after I popped my head out the door: "Well, right now, he's changing tractor tyres"! He's never once complained (and in fact his standard reply when anyone asks how he is, is what it's pretty well been all his life: "no complaints"!). But he's not in denial--he knows exactly the score: he floored me (and I'm sure all of us around the table) when he commented matter-of-factly last week "while I'm still able to eat, I'd really like to taste a lobster". Needless to say my sisters are now all scrabbling to organise a lobster feast. Thanks for the good Danny advice--I hadn't thought of crate--will pass to B. Plumbing pretty well resolved, tho found (in time) another potentially ghastly leak today--fortunately there was already a container in place. Teeth also fixed so I don't scare the horses any more. Well, maybe I do, but not for that reason. Thanks again for your good wishes Tonya! hugs, Kerry - Original Message - From: catatonya To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Sent: Saturday, June 24, 2006 9:49 PM Subject: Re: o/t advice needed Gosh Kerry! And if none of that shows promise I'd try the kitty prozac ( I don't remember what it's called.) Good luck with everything. Plumbing problems suck. I had that blue poly that was recalled at my old house and had several major floods until I replumbed the entire house. tonya
Re: FIV infected Kitten
I am hoping for that too! I've heard sometimes there are false positives and other reasons why they test positive the first round, then negative later. She is eight weeks old. I am awaiting her second test when she is sixteen weeks of age. I just recently joined this list for support and to gain knowledge about the disease. Gina I had a kitten just recently retest neg after testing pos. I only waited 3 days, though, because I wanted to get the rest of the litter tested. Since every kitten tested neg, the vet told me I could consider the first test result a bad test. So there is hope:)No heaven wil not ever Heaven be Unless my cats are there to welcome me.--epitaph in a pet cemetery Tiggertales ~ a site about our beloved felines Do you Yahoo!?
