RE: Feline Interferon Omega importation, can someone send me ALL the info and forms?
I have bought interferon from UK about a dozen times now.. you get it nor problem without FDA letter 99% of the time,, I never had any problems getting it.. All you need is to contact Abbyvet (distributer in UK) by your vet and they will ship it to you vet directly. Go to Dr. Diane Addie's site on FIP and it will have the link (google, dr. addie FIP and you will get the site right away) --- you have to buy 2 packs of 10 MU vial as minimum and it's about $1000. let me know if you need any questions. _ From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, February 20, 2007 8:01 PM To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Subject: Feline Interferon Omega importation, can someone send me ALL the info and forms? I'm back
Hello All Sorry I've been a silent member for a while due to work etc... but I am unfortunately back now and will be for a while. Just had Minstral to the vets cos I noticed a very subtle behaviour change - she became more affectionate to me and scratched her jaw a bit more than usual - I suspected gingivitis again but Minstral being Minstral is not a handleable cat at the best of times. However at vets we found only very mild Gingivitis but her lymph nodes are a bit swollen. I think we are going to start interferon omega now whilst we have caught the changes early. I have chosen not to do bloods at the moment due to not wanted to stress her out to much. PS - she isn't being affectionate now after I grabbed her from behind and bundled her into the cat carrier to go off to the vets bless her. I hadn't seen this vet in consultation before but knew he would be good from a brief encounter with him when we were going through the emergencies with Bramble in the past. I instantly went in with a somewhat knowledgeable attitude and told him I had gone to him as I felt he would work with me to do everything possible for Minstral to help her have a quality of life and not write her off. After dropping in some technical terms he said I was well informed so I think he will work with me. Unfortunately our last vet has left so had to select another one so have to picky and find the right one. Any tips very welcome? Michelle, Buddy, Minstral Angel Bramble

I've heard of this stuff, but I'm under orders not to upset Missy so she won't have a heart attack, so I get all her stuff professionally compounded - I don't even try to pill her, because she does get upset. Re: OT- www.1drugstore-online.com
I've been ordering from them regularly for 12-18 months and they are wonderful. Great customer service (via email), high quality meds, even the generics. They are shipping from Thailand and don't offer express to the US but my order arrives in California within 10 days or so of the order date. Never a problem with the charges on my credit card. I was originally told about them by another rescue person who had been using them for awhile herself. I recently had a problem with an order of zithromax. Customs seized it and I received a notice from the FDA telling me they would hold it for 30 days in case I wanted to tell them why I should have it. (FDA cited a code section claiming it was an unknown or unapproved med in the US. Rather than explain that it was a common antibiotic and 12 capsules was well within the usual pass given for a 3 month supply for personal use, I decided to let them hold onto it. Why argue about 12 capsules of zith and have every foreign shipment scrutinized in the future?) So, I emailed customer service at 1drugstore-online and told them what happened. Emailed them in the afternoon from my office, had a very nice apologetic reply by the time I got home from work. They offered to reship and asked me to scan or fax (to a US fax number) the FDA notice. And so I did. And my replacement order arrived yesterday. They were so responsive, apologetic, and quick to rectify the situation. Really, some of the best customer service I have seen online. OT - Quality of life
Hi guys, Some of you remember I took in an aggressive owner surrendered cat named Caroline. Well, Caroline is fine with me now. She loves me, rubs up against me, wants pets, etc. Unfortunately, she is still cat aggressive. She's been living in my bathroom since November. I don't think this is a great life for a kitty, but I can't risk my other kitties well being. I'm thinking of medicating her and giving that a try. I've tried short periods of time one on one with another kitty in the bathroom and not only is she aggressive to the other kitty, she backslides and starts trying to bite me. I am starting to think it would be better for her to be on meds than for her to be stuck in the bathroom for any longer. What do yall think? It's pretty much the same as amoxi or clavamox, so whatever your vet has been prescribing. And the capules are 500 mg each so I just divvy it up. I usuay go for 125 mg daily but it depends on what the problem is and how severe. There is an acceptable dosage range, not just one specific dose engraved in stone. Re: OT - Quality of life
I have a kitty like this too, (Sophie Matilda), you might remember me telling you about her when you first wrote to the list about Caroline. I think it might be better to start with letting Caroline visit with a friendly, slow moving kitty in the other kitty's territory. The bathroom belongs to Caroline and she's defending it. It's also too small a space for her to feel comfortable with the flight instead of fight response to an interloper. I'd clear an adjacent bedroom of everyone else besides you and Caroline. Let her sniff around and get used to it a little bit, no more than an hour at a time. Then when you feel she is somewhat comfortable in there, introduce the cat that you think she could make friends with. What I did to start, was let Matilda know I was brining in the other cat. I held the other cat, (Matilda's friend is named Timmy), on my lap and just let Matilda get used to being in the same space with Tim wo them actually interacting. I've thought about pharmaceuticals more than once as a solution to help Matilda get over her fear aggression. So far, I've decided to take it slow and work with her with behavior modification instead. It is a SLOW process, I've had Matilda for about 7 mos now, but she is much improved. She now can be in the bathroom, small back hall and back bedroom unsupervised with Timmy and another friendly cat, Kimba. Matilda used to charge and attack anyone with four legs, now, if she has enough room, she'll sit back and watch instead. It's one step forward and two steps back, but she is making progress. Do you have a screen door on the bathroom? Is there any other cat that she seems less threatened by that might work with her? You may think I'm crazy, (what else is new?), but I had long talks with Tim and Matilda before I began introducing them. I asked Tim's permission before putting him in contact with Matilda and he's been just wonderful with her. I understand completely about the quality of life issue. I used to struggle with Matilda's isolation and the fact that she was taking up such valuable real estate that the other cats were denied. I changed my mind set when I realized that the alternative was her injuring my other animals, being drugged all the time, or the worse case scenario, Matilda being pts. I will watch her closely for a couple of days and try to look at her mouth again after that period - if she has worsened then I will take her to the boss vet cos he is great - but he only works 2 days a week. She is a very difficult cat to medicate anyway - although very affectionate with me she is semi ferral and is also very defensive and doesn't take kindly to being restrained by any means bless her - unless of course she is on the vets table then she is good as gold and makes me look a fool. As was the case with Bramble - Minstral and Buddy both carry calicivirus but are at the moment able to fight it. I wondered if she was fighting a reoccurence of calici as she sounds a little nasaly at times but hasn't got the runny nose or sneezes. Calici can also explain gingivitis - Her little ears were getting a bit hot at times so I suspect she was getting a temperature and looked a bit confused at times but it wasn't severe. I think that if she is fighting off calici herself at the moment the antibiotics are of limited use and I don't want to build her tolerance to them unneccesarily. FIO is the gold standard drug for calici anyway in the uk. Another thing I wondered about was that I changed their biscuits and they were a little harder (they have some biscuits and some wet food) but that was a couple months ago - the last couple of days I changed back to slightly softer dry food and I think this has helped her - she loves her biscuits. I'm going to put cod liver oil and multi vits in her food and see if she will eat it. She is fussy like most cats - if she smells anything medicine like in her food she won't eat it. At least she is a fat cat and loves eating which is one less worry at the moment. She is eating drinking and toileting fine - in fact she still looks at me and waits for me to give her clean litter before she gets in to soil it again LOL. The behavioural changes were so subtle that most people would have not noticed but as you will all know you become so fined tuned to your furbabies that you sense it instantly. Was cute really it's as if she was coming to me to tell me she wasn't well. Then when we got home after she'd been to the vet today, and although she battles against being picked up and put in the carrier, she lifted her head up and butted my chin as she was saying thanks for listening mummy - was so sweet. Don't know if this is any clearer Nina Thanks Michelle, Minstral, Buddy Angel Bramble
RE: Please add Ricky Rick to the CLS
Tad and Marie, I'm so sorry for your loss of Luvy and Ricky Rick. I'm glad they both found their way to you albeit at different times, and got to feel so loved and so very safe. What is your feral cat's name? It's so interesting and inspiring that he/she senses what is happening and is maybe going to, as you say, take over Ricky Rick's spot. Bless you for all you do. hugs, Kerry -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Tad Burnett Sent: Sunday, February 11, 2007 9:18 PM To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Subject: Please add Ricky Rick to the CLS On Fri Feb 9, 2007 Ricky Rick was helped to end his suffering from lymphoma and FeLV... Ricky was a big old black and white tux tom cat when he was brought into the shelter... He tested pos but he was such a friendly old fellow that they had to try and find him a home... He came to live with me about 15 months ago and was very happy and quickly became friends with the other cats... He had been stray for some time and his coat was very shabby but with good food he soon became such a handsome fellow... It wasn't long though before we noticed his lymph nodes were swelling... He took his pred. and the progression was very slow but then this last week he was peeing blood and not swolling his food and it was time to let him go on Rick had his own pillow right next to mine that he has slept on at night for as long as I can remember and I miss not having him there... But then my feral cat that I have been taming for 2 1/2 years and must sense that this is a sad time has been much closer in the last few days and she may be the one to take over that spot We will miss our friendly old Ricky Rick. RE: I'm back
Dear Michelle, I'm naturally sorry for the reason you're back, but it's so good to hear from you-I often think about you and your furballs and your parachute jump for the donkey sanctuary. I'm glad you found a vet you feel will do everything possible for Minstral. Sending your little sweetie healing vibes. hugs, Kerry -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, February 21, 2007 6:00 AM To: Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Subject: I'm back Hello All Sorry I've been a silent member for a while due to work etc... but I am unfortunately back now and will be for a while. Michelle, Buddy, Minstral Angel Bramble IRS CIRCULAR 230 NOTICE. Quality of Life
I too have talked to my cats on more than one occassion to ask how they feel so I don't think your mad Nina. But I agree with letting them explore a little at a time and if you can put up a screen that they can see each other through before introducing them that sometimes can help as Nina said. They had that at the sanctuary - Unfortunately Blackie isn't alive now but he kept seeing the sanctuary cat behind the glass door in the office. Gradually the two cats started to try and play through the glass and when they let Blackie in both cats were happy together and Tom ventured out of the office for a stroll around too. Takes time but I think it's much better done behaviourally. They other thing that might help relax the cat in anxiety provoking situations is using the plug in pherimones. It maybe that you let the kittie out the bathroom for 5 mins and gradually progress the time. Patience and perserverence is often the only answer to modifying anxiety related behaviour. It's like humans - exposure is done gradually and built upon. When I first brought my cats home from the sanctuary Buddy was terrified of the television - she would not come out at all if the tv was on - but with gradual exposure she started to venture out and as she learned it was not a threat she improved and it took time but now she doesn't care at all. Hope you have success Michelle, Minstrel, Buddy Angel Bramble

To Sherry Re: Twinkie
Hey Sherry, I am sorry to hear that you guys lost little Twinkie. I visited the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary this past weekend and I just wanted to tell you how much I think of you that you donate your time to an animal sanctuary. I think it's wonderful that you do that. :) Wendy --- Sherry DeHaan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi everyone,I would like to ask if Twinkie one of our shy torties from the sanctuary can be added to the CLS.We lost her today due to ulcers in her mouth.I actually worked with her for awhile one on one and she purred for me,it was the sweetest sound. We have not lost one of our sancuary furkids since Dec.I sure hope this isn't a start of bad luck. Please add all our fur kids to your prayers. My condolences to all the losses we have had here on the felvtalk. Re: OT - Quality of life
Try the concentrated catnip. It isn't very expensive and lasts a really long time. Also try animal communicators. I understand there is a website with ones who volunteer to do it. Some people who are very good at this don't want to go thru all the hassle of being professional and just want to practice/help. A professional AC helped me tremendously with the Royal Princess Kitty Katt when she was forced to come live with me and both pros and volunteers have helped with other cats. Many times the volunteers were better able to tune into the cat or dog than the pros.
