(I want apologized if you have already seen this from other
groups I'm on)

Hello all,
I wanted to make everyone aware or least be alert of what can
happen when you get behind brush mowers whether it's up close or at a
distance.
It is very dangerous.

Yesterday, my husband was about 20 feet behind a tractor that
had a brush mower on it which was operated by his friend. My husband was
looking for items that may have been sticking out of the ground that the
mower didn't get.

Anyway, a huge rock flew out from the mower and my husband said
he seen it at the corner of his eye. By then it was too late. The rock
hit him on his right arm below the elbow and broke his arm in two
places. I had to call 911 for help he was bleeding and going into shock.
He was taken to the hospital and had x-rays done on him. The time was
around noontime that this happened.

My Dr. was on call who is a orthopedic surgeon had to do
emergency surgery on him.
I have a lot of faith in him as he done my knee replacements and
other bone surgeries.
One of the bones is shattered in my husband's arm and he said it
look like a gunshot wound. He was taken into surgery about 5 pm was
returned back to his room about 9:15 pm last night.
The Dr. told me he was bad that he could lose his arm especially
below the elbow.
He has muscle and tissue damage. Many fragments of the bone was
floating in his arm.
Did what he could do for him at this point.
Only time will tell.

Since, my husband is a Diabetic and has HEP C from tainted blood
in the 60's from a blood transfusion he is considered high risk. He has
a tube in him that they call a Vacu this is to suck all the infection
and excess blood from the area. He is also on two different IV lines for
the loss of blood and for antibiotics. He is being monitored closely.
I did noticed his blood pressure was high.
So he will be in the hospital for at least some time.
He will be taken back into surgery tomorrow to check out more of
the damage and try to repair more of his arm.

By the way my husband is right handed this is the arm that got
injured.

Some of you already know he just had two recent right shoulder
surgeries on the same arm. He was supposed to return back to work for
light duty on the 19th of this month.
Believe it or not he was looking forward going back to work
after being off for almost a year.
Now that this has happened I don't know what we are going to do.

Please pray and hope he doesn't lose part of his arm.
That he makes full recovery.

Dear Everyone,

Now that I have lost my Bubba, I am looking for a companion for
my positive Maine Coon, Buddy. Buddy is about 2 years old and I think a
cat a bit younger would get along particularly well with him. It would
be especially nice if another Maine Coon were found.

Please feel free to crosspost this message; that's how I found
Buddy and he is a wonderful cat.

Please add my beloved Bubba to the CLS list. I adopted
this big gray tabby from a rescue group in May 2004, when he was about 3
years old and he was fat and happy until this past September. He
rallied from that crisis, but never gained back the weight he lost and
two weeks ago went into a tailspin that I knew there was no recovering
from. He died peacefully this morning at home. He was the sweetest cat
one could ever want and I will miss him dreadfully. My heart is broken.
One never gets used to the loss of a loved pet.

Many thanks to those who have given me advice over the
past couple of years.

well, I certainly understand your decision. Oncologists are usually
pretty optimistic, at least in terms of months, with treating lymphoma with
chemo, unless there is something particular about the case and how advanced it
is. Are they pessimistic because he is positive, or because they think
he is very advanced? Being positive does not affect response to chemo, but it
does seem to shorten the length of remission in many cases.

I wish that I had done chemo with my two that I did not,but
sometimes I wonder if I did too much with Simon, unless I focus on the few
weeks of really good time that he had at the end. There is no real
answer. Whatever you do will probably seem wrong afterwards, as that is our
nature. If you are comfortable with the decision now, that is really all
  you can go by.

I would definitely not taper the dexamethasone unless you are going to
start giving a shot of depo periodically as well. If he is not getting
chemo, then it is unlikely he will have more than a few months at most, which
is when side effects from steroids normally set in if they are going to. So I
don't think you should be worrying about that right now.

  cancer sucks.

  I just
called to cancel my appointment today and send the message about my
disappointment that the vet was unwilling to discuss things over the
phone. They put me on hold and the vet came on with apologies for the
misunderstanding. She said she had some blunt advice for me and
thought it better to discuss it in person. Of course her "blunt"
advice was no worse than the conclusions I'd already come to on my
own. They do, as does Michelle, suspect strongly that he has
lymphoma. They are still hesitant to treat for it without further
confirmation, but I got the distinct impression that if I insisted, they
would. Both doctors feel that aggressive cancer treatment would, at
best, buy him limited time, and disrupt the quality of life he is
experiencing now. She said that she has, in cases like this, tapered
the steroid dose, (after initial daily dosing), to eod in an attempt to
avoid prolonged use reactions. Unfortunately, the result in these
cases is usually the same, the cat crashes and there's no way to tell if
it's a result of prolonged steroid use, the tapering of the steroid, or the
lymphoma itself. Nasty business this. So, even with discussing
things over with the vet, my decision made this morning stands for
now. I wish there were some way to make Spencer "all better", since
that doesn't appear to be possible, (at least not without Divine
Intervention, and I don't need a vet for that), I will make the time he has
the best quality that I can.Nina

Hello my beloved group,
I just got the call from the vet. Ceasar had deep puncture wounds that
were abscessed all over his body, the deepest around his neck and the
most infected on his rear leg, no wonder my brave little man was
limping. He had a high fever and the worst news of all, he was felv+.
They hadn't yet investigated why his nose was bleeding, or why there was

blood in his saliva. The vet, who is always reluctant to recommend
euthanasia, said if she were Ceasar she wouldn't want to wake up from
the kind of pain he must have been living with. I still hesitated, I
still thought maybe there was a way. I asked if there could be any
doubt about his status, the answer was an unequivocal no. Before we
left for the vet, he allowed me to stroke him through the grate of the
trap. His skin was covered with small lesions, with that gritty feel
that comes from flea infestation. Poor little lamb! He was angry, but
he didn't try to scratch me, or even hiss. I spoke softly to him and
told him how much he was loved and that he was finally home. I had so
prayed that I would be bringing him back to comfort and security this
afternoon. I had to finally decide to let him go. I'm so sick about
not being able to trap him when I first met him, maybe he would be
healthy today. I feel like I failed him, my only consolation is that
he's no longer suffering, he's no longer confined, and he's no longer
producing felv kittens. He lived the hard life of a cat on the street
and I helped him as best I could. Thank you all for caring about a
special little feral boy and understanding how he has left an imprint on

my heart.
Bless you my sweet, brave, clever friend. I will love you always. Nina

happens to be, the sweetest, most friendly creature, and I would love

during the day when I am not at home (I am currently taking Pre-Vet
courses at Hunter College, hoping to eventually get a doctorate in

miss his old pal from the previous apartmentdespite his lowered
status in that relationship, they really enjoyed playing and cuddling
with each other; I remember them almost connected at the hip. I
introduced Riley to another cat before (granted, it wasnt planned
correctly-i.e. placing the new cat in another room, slowly
introducing, not only him to the new environment, but Riley to a new
animal in the house); the other cats reaction didnt sit well with
Riley. She hissed violently and began swatting at him, and Riley
quickly ran under the bed ( refused to come out for a few hours.)
So I guess what Im looking for is a friendly cat, whose biggest flaw
is that hes/shes been diagnosed with FIV. Im very educated on this
condition and will be able to provide him/her with unconditional love
frequent visits to the Vets Office. My cat is very healthy, and
Im expecting him to live a very long and happy lifeI would love to
provide that opportunity for another fabulous feline. Thank you for
your time and consideration. I reside in a studio apartment in
Riverdale (Bronx), NY (and will be living there until, at least,
October of 2007.) All of the windows in the apartment have screens,
and there is this wonderful little ledge (that Riley LOVES to sit

Marvelously w/Other Cats I am looking to adopt a Female (or
possibly, Male) FIV Positive cat with a wonderful, friendly
disposition, who gets along Very Well with other cats. I
currently have a two year old Male FIV+ cat at home, who,
happens to be, the sweetest, most friendly creature, and I would
love to provide him with a new friend. My cat (Riley) previously
lived with another Male cat, who turned out to be Alpha Male in
status ( a bit of a bully, in nature), and had a tendency
of eating Rileys food before Riley was able finish his portion
(the other cat would quickly gobble up his own food, and then
race over to Rileys dish, push him out of the way, then
slowly, attempt, to enjoy Rileys meal as well.) Once Riley and I
got our own place, Ive seen my little man blossom. Im starting
to feel, though, that he may be a little lonely during the day

Hi All,
Bailey is not doing well today, he seems to to really be nauseated
and even threw up on his second feeding right when I started. I waited
a while and did manage to feed him, but on his third feeding I think he
had a convulsion or a seizure. I was sitting on the couch feeding, he
was in his bed and all of a sudden he started flopping around in there,
it was so quick, I barely saw what happened. It looked like he was
contorting and had no control, kind of arching his back. It only lasted

maybe 5 seconds so I'm not sure what happened, but it was definitely
something he didn't have control over. Now he is breathing a bit fast,
not too bad, I have an appointment tomorrow morning. I'm just worried
he aspirated some food.

I just called my vet and she is coming in early to see him. I am not
feeding him anymore tonight. We could sure use some prayers. Thanks
all ...

Just wanted you all to know that Buster passed away today. He had a
very rough night as he just didn't respond to any of the meds that we gave him
on Monday.. He was breathing more rapid and harder all thru the night...So
this morning when the vet called to give me the results of the aspirate, I
told her I was going to bring him in for a breathing treatment and to have her
check his lungs...Things just really progressed so fast, I haven't ever seen
anything like it. It hadn't even been 14 or so hours that he was jumping
in my lap and scratching his post. He was still drinking water, but I
couldn't get him to eat anything and I tried it all...That was a first for him
as he never went off his food, but was hardly ever sick in his 13 yrs 11months
other than an occasional sinus infection.. We made the appt. to go to Dallas,
but it is a long drive and with the type of lymphoma he had, it would have
been so hard on him...the drive and the tests...I wanted him to have his
dignity..and he did...I went back to see him after he had been in the oxygen
cage for an hour or so...He was having some difficulty, but not as much as
before...He looked at me and the vet tech opened the cage so I could see him
and pet him...then he started breathing harder...I asked her if he was
starting to die and she said yes...So I picked him up and took him in the exam
room...I put him in my lap as I did several times a day, the way he liked to
sit with me and told him it was ok, that I was there and he would be ok..He
took about 3 more breaths and passed away...He was waiting for me to return,
and I will always believe that..He wanted me with him so I am glad that I
didn't put him thru anything else...I believe he was ready..He was my "Rock",
my tough kitty that has helped me get thru all my other's illnesses...As you
all know, how difficult this is to write.
I am going to miss him so much...as I am sure Bandy and Lil Rascal will,
  too..
Thankyou all for your thoughts and prayers,

boy, no bigger than a 6 month old kitten. During his last weeks he was
always cold so he always beat me to bed at night and was waiting under the
covers for me. Our vet suspects that he had feleuk in his bone marrow
but we didn't test him - and on the snap tests he repeatedly tested
  negative.

On Feb. 8th I lost Cheyenne. She was a little Siamese baby - small
but not as small as Jack. She was definitely feleuk positive. She came
to me at 4 months from a Tx kill shelter -- in fact Gloria and I read about
her on this list - and Gloria went to Tx to pick her up along with a great big
ol' dlh orange tabby boy, Charlie, who is FIV+ -- and thriving. For the
first few weeks I had to make Cheyenne let me hold her - and then one day in
my arms she just sighed this big sigh and relaxed and became my sweet outgoing
  little girl.

Then, on Feb 9, Sweet Willie Brown died. He was a tiny tabby when
he came to our rescue group - spent his whole kittenhood with one
sickness or another and the for the last year and a half was so thin that he
looked to be at death's door. He also repeatedly tested negative and our
vet suspects feleuk in the marrow. Just a few months ago extensive
bloodwork showed nothing but a little anemia and a slightly elevated white
count. He finally began to put on weight and I took him to our Board
meeting on the 20th to show off how chubby he was. He has always been a
favorite of everyone in our rescue group- and he spent the evening sitting on
one shoulder and then another. Shoulders were his "thing". I miss
that "out of nowhere" feather touch as he landed on my shoulder - have
  shoulder will pounce.

There are now 3 more angels in the heavens and I know they are playing
together, all healthy, at the Rainbow Bridge.

Gone My baby Rudy passed today at 4:
PM. My husband and I stayed with her all day she slept between us, so I know
she was where she wanted to be. She passed so peacefully looking in my eyes. I
have lost a lot of kitties in my life but never one to go so quickly and
easily. A few short breaths, no cries and she was gone. Rudy came
into my home 13 years ago and she has been the boss ever since. I was at my
front door one cold night calling my other kitties home and this pretty little
girl that I had never seen before ran in my door straight to my wash room
jumped on my hot water heater and stayed there for 3 days. I loved her from
the first minute I saw her. I knew she was special and meant just for me. No
sharing this one with my hubby. My other kitties were jealous but soon learned
she was here to stay. Rudy was what I called my bold
protector. She was not afraid of any cat or dog. If she heard me scolding
another cat she would run in and slap the kitty. My 3 large dogs were also
afraid of her. If one would come running at me to fast she would jump in front
of me to protect me and quickly turn them around. She could be in another room
and if I stubbed my toe and cried out she would come flying in to see if
someone was messing with her Mama. She was diagnosed with
felv when she was spayed. I guess she was less than one year old. She was
always healthy except she lost all her teeth but one early on so her tongue
was always falling out her mouth. She was hard to please with food would only
eat fancy feast and not much of that. Would beg for milk and throw it right up
if I gave in and gave it to her. I still have know good
answers as to why kidney failure. The Vet says it happens in older cats. She
was not anemic, but she was running a low temp. I saw know signs of sickness
till Sunday morning when she started to stumble when she stood up.
Sorry to go on so long but I needed to say how much I'll miss her sleeping in
my arms, loving me completely and unselfishly. Sheila

My shelter has a
wonderful, very large, 9 month old puppy who needs a home or will be PTS.
because he is developing behavioral issues from being at the shelter. He
knows some basic commands but needs more training. He also needs lots of
exercise and because of his size, should not be with children under 15 years or
so. He is now about 80lbs. The shelter is in Jersey City, but will
transport, if not too far or arrangements can be made.

If you know on

 Hi All,
Bailey's number is down to 15% now (he's been on the epogen for 5
shots and last blood work was 6 day's ago so I'm really worried), so I
did go ahead with the aspirate, it will take 3 to 5 days for an answer.
In the meantime now I can give him the pet tinic, prednisolone, doxy,
clindimycine, and pain medication he needs through his tube without him
being so stressed about it.

He is really PO'd and hissing. I will give him a 2 to 3 hours to settle
down before I feed him a very small watered down meal and later tonight
I will give him his meds in another small watered down meal. I hope he
is as OK with the tube feedings as Buddie was. I'll let you know ...

Sure am hoping and praying that whatever it is is something we can treat
 beat!!

She was so strong and well just yesterday morning that part of me wanted to
believe that she would bounce back but when I found her this morning on the
floor and she did a terrible cry when I picked her up I knew that something
was terrible wrong with her...

The blood test showed kidney function had stopped and the vet said that she
had so little blood in her vains that he suspected internal bleeding
probably in the liver...

When I brought her to the vet this morning she could barely hold her head up
for a short time and after being at the vets all day and having sub Q liquid
all day which is probably what kept her alive she was even weeker...The vet
felt she was probably in pain and didn't think anything would bring her back
so we sent her on ahead to the Rainbow Bridge

Callie was a feisty little calico...She was reported at AW to be hard to
medicate and when she arrived here we learned that she would only let you
touch her for a few seconds and then you better let her go... We learned
where the limits were and soon she began to trust us and Marie did better
with some of the other AW cats than I but Callie definitely chose meNow
that I think of it she was never close to any of the other cats but she was
always with me whenever I was around... She new when I was putting on
clothes to go outside and meow and meow and she would be waiting at the door
for me when I came back in... A few time that she did sneak out with me she
let me catch her and if I would tell her NO as I when out she would sit
there and wait

Right now she would be sleeping on top of the monitor while I am on the
computerShe was such a good friend to me and she had so much
personality...She had some hard times during her life but she was happy and
loved here at the end...I only wish she could have stayed longerI can't
believe she is gone so soon I will miss her for a long time...

That leaves 4 of the original 6 from AWOJ has never been a totally
healthy kitty...He has had to stay on antibiotics for several bacterial
types of infections and he has never played and raced around the way some of
the others do but he has always been a big purr and snuggle bunAnd
antibiotics is easy to keep them going...Both OJ and Fred who is my first
FeLV+ kitty who gums seem to get infected when I take him off
antibiotics...He only has a few teeth left now...I have had Fred well over 2
years...I have had several worries over Fred and OJ and they are both
special buddies so I can't complain ... They are still hereI guess this
is just the way it was meant to be

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that Cricket passed away
last night about 2:42 am Texas time. I am pretty torn
up right now. I feel like such a dork because I
carried his collar to work with me today. He had the
feeding tube procedure done, but was just so anemic,
that after the procedure, he couldn't get his breath.
For most of the night, I thought he was just having a
hard time coming out of the sedation (gas) because he
never really did and was having problems breathing,
but the vet said his trachea probably got irritated
from the procedure, and that he should be fine later.
He slept right next to me last night and about 2:20 he
woke me up trying to cry, and I picked him up and took
him to the living room because I knew something wasn't
right. He died about 20 minutes later. I have asked
God countless times to let me be there when Cricket
passed so that he wouldn't be as scared or lonely
(like he would be if I was at work and died). God
honored that request, thankfully, but it was still
very hard. My husband, nephew, and I will have a
little ceremony this afternoon for him. I am glad
that he is not in pain or weak or suffering and I know
that I did just about everything humanly and
financially possible, but it doesn't help. At least
not right now. I am going to write him a little
tribute to bury with him. He was such a wonderful
companion. I will send a pic out of him later when I
get home. Thank all of you SO much for helping me and
Cricket through these last three and a half weeks.
Your kindness is immeasurable, and I plan to stick
around and help out anyone else I can even though I
don't have anymore FeLV (that I know of-I need to have
my other two retested). God Bless each and every one
of you.

Nina,

I am so, so, sorry about you losing Grace. I think you are right, in
thinking that she feels it is time to go. I think she is turning away from
you to spare both of you more pain. I have had to euthanize very thin cats
as well and there has never been a problem. The tranquilizer has always gone
in gently and then they just relax, sometimes sleep and sometimes cross at
that time as well. I always hold them as well and then put them gently on a
towel or blanket.

Again, I am so sorry about your pain and sadness.

Subject: Question about Euthanasia and my Grace

My Beloved Group,
First of all, I'm sorry I haven't been able to participate fully in the
group this last couple of weeks. I love you all, but for the last
couple of days, I haven't even been able bring myself to read the
posts. I'm physically and emotionally exhausted by Grace and my last
efforts to bring her back to health. Yesterday, I finally resigned
myself to thinking of our time together as 'death bed vigil'. Those of
you that know me, know that I pray all your babies are safe and healthy,
and those that are losing, or have lost the battle; my love is with
you. I don't know what I would have done without the love and support
of this group. You have been a Godsend to me and my sweet fur angels.

Yesterday morning Gracie told me she does not want to stay. Among
other signs, I was syringe feeding her and she refused to swallow. I'm
trying my best to make peace with her decision. I know you understand.
She hasn't eaten on her own for a long time now and she's skin and
bones. She spent a nice peaceful day, and I did my best to just be
with her. During the afternoon she made it clear that she didn't want
to be sung to, or touched. It's so hard on me to watch her pull away.
At one point, she seemed a bit agitated so I ground up a tiny bit of
Valium and gave it to her in water. She was so relaxed she even did a
stretch-semi roll out on the patio in the sun. She did something that
startled me, and got my hopes up again. (I just can't stop believing in
miracles). I was giving the dogs treats and she was laying on the
couch. Well, we have this thing Grace and I. Whenever the dogs get
treats she'd come bounding over the barrier and expect one too. When
she saw me giving the dogs treats this afternoon, she jumped off the
couch. I started to cry, because I thought, there's no way she's going
to take a treat. I put one in front of her anyway and you could have
knocked me over with a sigh. It took her a minute to decide to eat it,
but she not only ate that one, but 3 more. Then she ate 3 or 4 pieces
of kibble! My hopes were short lived though.

I've been up with her most of the night. She still doesn't want my
attention. She doesn't even want me to look at her, it's breaking my
heart to say goodbye, and I guess it may be making it harder for her to
go, although that is not my intention. It's not like I don't want her
to leave her body, I do. I want her suffering to be over. Yesterday,
when I knew it was time, I called my Internist's office to see if Dr.
Ortega would be willing to help her cross. Grace has always liked Dr.
Ortega, and I thought she would be calmest with her. Well, my Internist
isn't going to be in the office until Friday. It doesn't seem possible
that Grace will still be here by then. My stance has always been, that
when I know it's the end, when I know that the chance of a recovery
after treatment isn't possible, then it's time to help them cross. Even
though Grace is peaceful, (she just lays on her side and breathes
shallow, but relaxed breaths), I have a hard time letting nature take
it's course. It's arrogant of me, but I can't stand seeing her like
this. I'm also so worried about her being in pain, when I look in her
eyes, she doesn't seem in pain, but she doesn't seem like herself
either. I wouldn't mind vacant, but it's almost like she's... not quite
angry, more like annoyed to still be here.

Just to let you know... Over the past week or so, I think I may have
mentioned it, we've been following an extensive homeopathic regime with
the help of a practitioner named Darla Palmer. While it didn't save
Grace, it did bring her back into her body, and for brief glorious
moments, back to me. It was such a joy to see the Grace I know and love
shining out of her eyes again.

Anyway, here's my question: Can anyone tell me how difficult it is to
put an animal to sleep in an emaciated condition? Of course, I don't
want to make things harder on her, I want to ease her suffering. What
if they can't find a vein, because they're so small? I just want to
know what to expect. I'm thinking of calling a house call vet to see if
he can come today, but I don't want this to

Sad news - Marietta (the only female in the litter) had to be pts today
- she was not breathing hardly at all. Not sure if FIP or not but she
was suffering but now she isn't - doesn't make it any easier, I am going to
miss her sweet little face rubbing my leg and arm when it was feeding time
. This is just making me ill,, been losing one a week - 3 gone in 3
weeks. Atlanta will be next ,, I can see it in his eyes. Athens is really
active, alert - eating well and not at all skinny like his sister or
brothers. He just might beat this and then it will all be worth
it. There are 3 siblings left, 2 FelV pos ,, one sibling is
negative, I watch him like a hawk, he seems fine though.

Terri
Please add her to the candle lite service April 3, 2005 - Sept 8, 2005 She
was a grey tabby with emerald green eyes. She is the sister of Albany and

With the help of everyone in the neighborhood we searched

You can't ask for more than that. Sometimes we try to extend lives and
make the critter/person miserable doing so. I truly believe we need to
ask ourselves what we would want if we were in our animal friend's

Hi, my beloved George whom I
rescued two month ago crossed the bridge yesterday he had a very labored
breathing for the past few days, the vet felt that he was having a hard time
overcoming URI due to the compromised immune system from FIV he had been so
well, he had a very good appetite.. but he never could really gain weight.
He was very jaundiced and yellow ness did not really go away,, but he
was doing so good..though,, Since he is a feral boy,, I really did not want to
stress him out taking him to a vet all the time..though. I did sense the his
last days might have been approaching as I felt that it must have been painful
to breath so heavily.. and he was getting so skinny regardless of his
appetitethe vet thought that his throat was very inflamed, and was going to
call him the first thing yesterday morning to see if I could give him
predisone but he did not make it -

I must have know that something
was going to happen that morning, because I couldnt sleep since 4 am that
day..I was so nervous and was wide awake, kept thinking of George I would go
check the room and see how he was doing.. and would go back (he would get
stressed more if I were around since he is a feral boy).. so I would go back,,
one time, I heard really loud breathing, and I saw him trying to eat the food
from the plate.. so I wanted to leave him alone so he could eat.. so I did..
and an half hour later or an hour.. I went back into the room.. and I did not
hear his breathing noise in the room.. I got so scared and I looked
around..and called his name..and he was lying on the floor by the food
plate with his eyes and mouth open.. and I ran over to him and held him he
was still warm.. but he had passed already.. I cried and cried and held him,
and I wrapped him with a blanket.. and put him on the table by the window. He
looked so painful with his eyes and mouth were open.. and I wish that they
werent.. but then, an interesting thing happened.. I went back to visit
George by the window in the room an half hour later .. and this time.. his
eyes and mouth were completely closed and he looked so peaceful.. looked like
he was just sleeping..with no more pain

I have lots of regrets for thing I
have done or I havent done for George.. things that I would regret for the
rest of my lives and things that ended up shortening his lives and things that
I would never forgive myself for.. but. I talked to Jasmine, my AC this
morning and she talked to George for me.. and I still feel very sad, but I
also feel very peaceful. George is doing fabulous right now, he said...
he is a little sad.. but he is feeling very good. We talked about a lot
of things.. but at the end he told me that.. dont think that he is just a
little helpless cat,, he is much more.. especially now,, he is free, and he
can be an advisor for me --- as I do have a tendency to try to control every
situation I encounter.. and I beat up myself when I cant for..so anyway, he
gave me some advise which I found very very helpful to continue my
  life..
George said that he would like to
meet me again,, probably not in my life time I left the conversation, asking
him that if he would talk to me again.. and he said yes.. I told him that I
love him and will miss him very much. And at the end,, he told me that he
loves me, too. George has been always a little feral boy.. and it meant the
world to me to know that he loves me.I buried him at his favorite spot in the
garden.. the place he used to hang out

Thank for all the prayers you have
given for George in the past now George has passed..please pray that George
will be continue to be happy, and continue to have a good life and that some
  dayI will meet him soon.

Grace and I could use your prayers and good vibrations. She has been
feeling poorly the last couple of months. Usually when she feels crummy
I put her on a round of Dox, and she feels better almost immediately.
Not so, this time. I put her on Dox and she didn't improve
significantly. I took her off of Dox and started the five day protocol
of Virbagen Omega, (injections of feline interferon, 1x daily). Again,
she improved slightly, but not significantly. After the 4th day, I
stopped the VO and put her back on Dox. She's been getting the Dox
again for about a week, she continues to improve, but is still not
herself. I've also been giving her oral interferon (chasing the Dox
pill with it), transfer factor, Lysine, Co-Q10 etc. Her appetite is
off, so I had to stop the supplements to get her to eat. I'm going to
try some transdermal Cyproheptadine to see if it helps her eat more.
You may think I'm crazy, (so what's new?), but I talked to two different
ACs that told me they did not think there were any tumors involved, or
problems with any of her internal organs, just a feeling of general
malaise. I had an appointment with our Internist today, but Grace seems
to have improved more in the last couple of days, so I canceled it. It
was a difficult decision to make. Grace suffers greatly from the stress
involved in a visit to the vet and knowing that there would be several
different tests involved to determine what is going on with her...
Well, I just decided not to put her through it. There's been too many
times that after the trauma and expense, nothing new has been learned.
I don't feel completely confident in this decision, but if she doesn't
continue to improve I can still bring her in later. I'm waiting for a
call from the vet to discuss a different antibiotic in case Grace has
finally built a resistance to Doxycycline. For heavens sake, we don't
even know why Dox has worked for her! Anyway, if you could take a
moment to think of my Grace and wish her well, it would be greatly
appreciated.
Nina

Damn, damn, damn...but I can't tell you guys enough how so very proud
of this little man I am...my vet was able to get us into the
oncologist's office straight away and it was confirmed that he has
lymphosarcoma in his chest cavity. He went through his first round of
chemo this morning (everything has happened so fast...I'll probably be
hitting the wine supply shortly...forget going back to
work! ;) )...anyhoo, all we can do now is wait and see how the tumor
responds. My vet was actually quite impressed with his overall health
(bloodwork, etc.) that she even retested him for leukemia to see if he
hadn't thrown the virus off...but, unfortunately, he's still coming up
positive. No mattter, though, he seems to be pretty upbeat
irregardless...incessently grooming all his shaved spots...if all goes
well, the oncologist says perhaps six to eight months (although he
treated a feleuk guy who's going on 2 years remission), and I'll take
it seeing as though, for these Feleuk guys, 6 months is a lifetime...

Thank you all so much for your good wishes, they truly mean the world
to me, especially in the days ahead!

My vet suggested pinch bowls--small metal bowls chefs use for a small amount
of seasoning etc--try a kitchen store, Linens and Things etc. They are
small, slanted so the cat can lick them clean and easy to disinfect. They
are very inexpensive too. I think my 4 ran less than $4.00.

 Joan,
Tell your friend to try lunch meat, sour cream, plain yogurt, anything
to get her to eat on her own. Sometimes a few drops of salmon oil on
top will help them smell their food and encourage them to eat.
Warming the food sometimes helps. Usually when they are off their
food, offering them something pureed or liquid that they can lap
rather than chew is better. Try following Twiggy around on hands and
knees offering the food over and over. Sometimes if you offer food
after a mouthful of syringed, they start eating on their own.
Sometimes petting them calmly helps. My Gypsy will sometimes take
food from a bowl, but not a dish and visa-versa. Please let your
friend know we are pulling for little Twiggy. Nina

Yesterday I lost Butternut to this evil disease. He was 3 1/2 years
old - so I know he has lived longer than most babies born positive - but
is wasn't long enough. It never is, is it. I am in
Arkansas and over 3 years ago there was a situation in the northern part
of the state - out in the sticks somewhere - where lots of cats were left
at a trailer park of some sort. It was in the news that a vet had
been hired to euthanize them all.2 members of our rescue group headed
up there to see what could be done -- all they managed to save was one
little orange tabby boy, Butternut, who tested positive for feleuk.
Since I already had feleuk babies, including Gloria's Mittens and my
Leader and their littermates, who were the same age as Butternut, I took
him. He has been wonderfully healthy and happy and very much loved
for the whole of his short life.

Over the last couple of days he went downhill fast and yesterday lost the
use of his hind legs. We chose to free him before he began to really
suffer. I know he is playing at the Rainbow Bridge with Mittens and
the rest of our feleuk babies.
Thanks.

Yesterday I lost Butternut to this evil disease. He was 3 1/2
years old - so I know he has lived longer than most babies born
positive - but is wasn't long enough. It never is, is it.
I am in Arkansas and over 3 years ago there was a situation in the
northern part of the state - out in the sticks somewhere - where lots
of cats were left at a trailer park of some sort. It was in the
news that a vet had been hired to euthanize them all.2 members
of our rescue group headed up there to see what could be done -- all
they managed to save was one little orange tabby boy, Butternut, who
tested positive for feleuk. Since I already had feleuk babies,
including Gloria's Mittens and my Leader and their littermates, who
were the same age as Butternut, I took him. He has been
wonderfully healthy and happy and very much loved for the whole of his
  short life.

Over the last couple of days he went downhill fast and yesterday lost
the use of his hind legs. We chose to free him before he began
to really suffer. I know he is playing at the Rainbow Bridge
with Mittens and the rest of our feleuk babies.
Thanks.

I hope he knew we were with him; I think he did. He was only 6

It's been a painfulday. I lost my gentle giant Snowball this
  afternoon. I never expected that.
He was breathing rapidly when I got home from the clinic. I thought at
first he was stressed because of losing his girlfriend Flavia. I couldn't take
the risk, tho, so I rushed him to the clinic. His lungs were full of fluid.
Only 25 per cent was not full and even that was compromised. I discussed it
with the same vet I saw this morning. I couldn't risk him dying while I was
gone, and that seemed a very real possibility.
Snowball was the biggest cat, a flamepoint, but he wouldn't hurt a soul.
He was terribly timid. He stopped playing a couple of months ago, butI
thought it was a lazy phase, because he had been pretty lazy before.
The other little ones would enjoy batting him when he was below them on
the tree. He never batted them back. he was too gentle. He knew he could
squash them if he wanted too, but he didn't want to hurt them.
I'm in shock for Snowball, and I guess Flavia, tho she has been so ill,
and I need to process it.
Please send prayers for my remaining Mickey and Momcat. They are going to
be feeling very down and scared, and I'm scared they'll stop eating.
I haven't read your replies yet because I just got back, and I have to
leave in 30 mins, and I haven't finished packing.
But there were lots--I'm so grateful. I'll read them when I get back.

  love and hugs to all

  Hi all
I've been up most of night with Flavia. I noticed she wasn't
moving much last night, and didn't appear to want to eat. When I tried coaxing
her with a treat, she went into the box and ate some litter instead. Not good.
Then she defecated outside the box 2 or 3 times. I stayed with her all night,
fell asleep for a couple of hours and when i woke up, shehad already
jumped into the new carrier (only the top door was open--not the front door).
So I gently closed it, and took her to a place i haven't used but has a good
reputation, when they opened at 8am. I got the impression from their website
last night that they could do bloodwork tests in situ and I could walk out
with the result -- I then planned to take the result to my old vet who has
always treated Flavia (but I know for a fact does have to send out for results
and also didn't open until 9am). However this is not nec the case it turned
out (that they can do all bloodwork tests in-house). I said I would clarify it
  with the vet i saw.
The receptionist/vibe at the new place wasobnoxious!
However I waited for the promised vet. They weren't busy. At 8.45 when
nothinghad happened I decided Flavia deserved much better than that and
soI told them politely thatI was leaving and taking her
  elsewhere.
Now I'm waiting for my old vet to call me
  back
Please send lots of good wishes for Flavia.

  Hi,
I mentioned to you a little bit, but I have been trying to capture one of my
feral boys, George for a couple of weeks now, I feel like he is getting
thinner to me, and hebarelyeats (he sips juice from fish can's soup)
and I am just so worried about this guy - He does not go into a trap since I
screwed it up last time, so I feel like the only chance I have in order to
catch him is with a fish net - I caught three cats in the pat with fish net -
it's more riskier than trap, but I feel like I shouldn't wait too long to
catch him because of his health condition-and don't know any other waythat I can - I also have
anappointment to talk to Dr. Ryan (AC)so that I can find out more
about his condition now - and if she has any meditation or suggestions
as to how I can catch him succesfully before it's too late
  -

  According
  to Jasmine (AC) whom
I spoke with a couple of weeks ago, he has a moderate
kidney problem and might have an infection with one of his long teeth (I have
given some antibiotics in his food for a couple of time) - he is also willing
to be adopted by me (at least he is willing to give a try)
  -
  Please pray that I can
successfully catch him very soon and he will be safe and Ok until I can catch

showing...I would like to form my opinion of this place on some detailed
pictures of all the cats and perhaps a video of these cats reacting with their
people...Pictures of empty Science Diet bags thrown out behind the house don't
really tell me much except that somebody has been eating
well...Maybe before we bash all shelters and homes we could set

UPDATE JUNE 7TH 2005"Pets Alive" Offers Sanctuary to Corpus Christi
Monastery Cats(June 7,
2005 / 7 pm EST) In an exemplary show of compassion, Sara Whalen, head of
Pets Alive
_javascript_:ol('http://www.petsalive.com');
, has offered to provide a new home for
the seven feral cats now facing starvation and possible impoundment and death at
the hands of the nuns of the Corpus Christi Monastery in the Bronx, New York.
The grounds of the monastery have been home to the neutered and
rabies-vaccinated cats for the past eight years. Sister Helen, Vicar of the
Religious Office for the Archdiocese of NY, has stated that the nuns of the
monastery are considering whether to allow volunteers to trap and remove the
cats so they can be transferred to Pets Alive. We hope compassion will
prevail and all parties will agree to this solution. The cats have now not
been fed for six days and
counting.

The nuns have to agree to it--it is their property.

I also
sent e-mails but it sure looks like they're just going to wait everyone out
let the cats starve to death or hope they just magically
disappear! Do you have any clue as to why the change in allowing

Big hugs to Pets Alive for offering to take these
kitties. And these nuns have not decided whether to allow the volunteers
to save the kitties? Boy, they really have a mean streak! If they
want the cats out of there they should be overjoyed at the offer. I'm
not the only one angry about this, am I.

Hartz Mountain to discontinue products for cats in 2006Forwarded message
- for info, please visit Hartz Mountain to discontinue products for
cats in 2006June 3, 2005, 8:05 PM EDTSECAUCUS, N.J. --
Pet care products company Hartz Mountain Corp. said Friday it would
discontinue two over-the-counter topical flea and tick products for
cats next spring, a move prompted by concerns over the number of
adverse reactions suffered by the pets. The Hartz Advanced Care 4
in 1 Flea and Tick Drops Plus for Cats and the Hartz Advanced Care 3
in 1 Flea and Tick Drops for Cats will still be sold in retail outlets
through March 31, 2006, when the company will launch a new product for
cats. No other Hartz Mountain flea and tick products are affected
by the voluntary cancellation, which came about after discussions with
the Environmental Protection Agency. The Secaucus-based firm also said it
had signed an agreement with the agency to cancel the product
registrations for the advanced care topical cat products.
Signs of individual animal sensitivity have included skin
irritation, hair loss at the application site, salivation and
tremors. If signs of sensitivity occur, pet owners should bathe
their cat with mild soap, rinse with large amounts of water and consult
a veterinarian immediately. Consumers with questions can call the
company at 800-275-1414. Copyright 2005 Newsday Inc.http://www.newsday.com/news/local/wire/newjersey/ny-bc-nj--hartzmountain-pro0603jun03,0,5424624,print.story?coll=ny-region-apnewjersey

Yes. This morning the nuns and Archdiocese agreed to allow volunteers to
trap and remove the cats to Pets Alive, a nearby sanctuary.

  Bramble
  Thankyou for you support

Well I stood in the vets sobbing my heart out - she considered the flea
treatment and said she thinks it is highly unlikely but she couldn't rule it
out. She had only ever seen seizures once from stronghold in a dog whose owner
administered it orally accidently - how silly can people be. And she said that
she would expect continuous seizure if it was the flea treatment. I said I
wasn't convinced and that more and more people are experiencing adverse
reactions but are not reporting them or the companies are not making them
  known.

I stood there and whilst I had the doubt in my mind that the flea
treatment had exacerbated these symptoms as opposed to it being purely FIV
related I was fighting for him. The vet said if he was her cat she would
euthanase as he had suffered enough but she also said I have tried so hard
along with Bramble and could see I wanted him to pull through. She was
surprised that he had had 48hrs been seizures and we agreed that if he has
another seizure within 24 hrs then I will have him euthanased - but I will
watch him for another 24hrs to see what happens.

So fingers crossed - he is depressed at the moment but it is only a few
  hours since his last seizure.
