Thank you everyone for your kind words regarding Smokey. At least I know the
sweet little guy is not suffering. Just about everytime I?think about me
cleaning his mouth it? makes me cry a little, even right now. I'm way to soft
were animals are concerned. I even worry about my pet squirrel, Charlie. Well,
he's not really a pet, I just feed him and he's becoming really friendly. I
take care of a stray cat named fi fi. (Long story how she got that name).
Yesterday when I first saw her she came trotting up to me, happy to see me.
She's very cute and I must say she really made me feel better. She currently
lives at my mother's house, (she's?now an?indoor cat and loves it) but there
will come a time when she will come with either me or my sister. Right now she
is a true blessing and belongs were she is. Thanks again, Kathryn

I am so sorry to have to write this. We lost our sweet little Smokey cat. When
I took him to my vet before we left on vacation she told us that the sores in
his mouth were caused from the virus and that he was suffering. She said? there
wasn't anything that could be done. I just couldn't believe it because I
really?thought he was doing so much better and that the sores were from herpes,
which I explained to her. She said no, sometimes these sores are caused from
the decease and that he was in great pain. Every time I think about the times
that I?cleaned his little mouth it breaks my heart because I now know how much
I was hurting him. I was as gentle as I could be but I thought I needed to keep
the sores doctored and?I really didn't realize how much pain he was in. Stupid
me, I thought I was helping him and that he was getting better.

After some time goes by, I plan on going to a rescue facility and adopting a
cat. I will try to get a little cat that has been passed by, maybe a little
older one, I don't really know, I figure I will know when I see him/her. Thank
you for all the information and support. You all were a great source of
information and support.

Sincerely,
Kathryn

Kathryn, you can buy it as a pill from a drug store and maybe in a capsule.? I
started with 500 mg caplets and they were tough to crush.? I ended up buying
the powder from iHerbs.

http://www.iherb.com/Search.aspx?c=1st=lkw=L-Lysine

Much easier to work with.? I dissolve it in a little water, mix with food and
feed it to mine.

It occurred to me last night that I did not take the time to properly say my
condolences for the lost kittys such as Melina. It saddens me whenever a little
animal leaves us and my thoughts are sincerely with their owners. I've been
kind of?preoccupied with Smokey. I really understand how these guys can effect
you, I think it's because they are so innocent and, like Smokey, are so
trusting. Every time I go to pet him, which is a lot, he purrs, even though
he's not feeling great.

I will be gone for six days on a previously planned vacation, (bad timing, I
know). However, he will be staying with my vet, I'm really hoping that she can
get his ulcers cleared up. I absolutely will get him on lysine. Just one more
question?if you all don't mind:?Do I get it in liquid form or is it a powder?

I'll email when I return to give an update. Can you send pictures on this site?
If so and if it's appropriate, I can send a picture of Smokey.

Thanks, again,
Kathryn

Kathryn, I am so sorry about Smokey. I know how much you wanted him to
make it. Don't reproach yourself too much (I know you have to a little,
20-20 hindsight is what we humans do best) for causing him pain trying
to take care of the mouth sores. You were doing what you could to be a
good mom, and we often have to do things they don't like for their own
good. Gentlest of Bridge vibes to Smokey. I know he knows how much you
loved him, and maybe he will guide you to another kitty who needs you.
Brava for wanting to find one who's been passed by, I always worry about
the older ones who aren't kitten-cute anymore. Hugs.

Kathryn, I am so sorry about Smokey.  I know how much you wanted him to make
it.  Don't reproach yourself too much (I know you have to a little, 20-20
hindsight is  what we humans do best) for causing him pain trying to take care
of the mouth sores.  You were doing what you could to be a good mom, and we
often have to do things they don't like for their own good.  Gentlest of Bridge
vibes to Smokey.  I know he knows how much you loved him, and maybe he will
guide you to another kitty who needs you.  Brava for wanting to find one who's
been passed by, I always worry about the older ones who aren't kitten-cute
anymore.  Hugs.

Diane R.

I am so sorry to have to write this. We lost our sweet little Smokey cat. When
I took him to my vet before we left on vacation she told us that the sores in
his mouth were caused from the virus and that he was suffering. She said  there
wasn't anything that could be done. I just couldn't believe it because I
really thought he was doing so much better and that the sores were from herpes,
which I explained to her. She said no, sometimes these sores are caused from
the decease and that he was in great pain. Every time I think about the times
that I cleaned his little mouth it breaks my heart because I now know how much
I was hurting him. I was as gentle as I could be but I thought I needed to keep
the sores doctored and I really didn't realize how much pain he was in. Stupid
me, I thought I was helping him and that he was getting better.

After some time goes by, I plan on going to a rescue facility and adopting a
cat. I will try to get a little cat that has been passed by, maybe a little
older one, I don't really know, I figure I will know when I see him/her. Thank
you for all the information and support. You all were a great source of
information and support.

Sincerely,
Kathryn

Kathryn, you can buy it as a pill from a drug store and maybe in a
capsule. I started with 500 mg caplets and they were tough to crush. I ended
up buying the powder from iHerbs.
http://www.iherb.com/Search.aspx?c=1st=lkw=L-Lysine
Much easier to work with. I dissolve it in a little water, mix with
food and feed it to mine.

It occurred to me last night that I did not take the time to properly
say my condolences for the lost kittys such as Melina. It saddens me whenever a
little animal leaves us and my thoughts are sincerely with their owners. I've
been kind of preoccupied with Smokey. I really understand how these guys can
effect you, I think it's because they are so innocent and, like Smokey, are so
trusting. Every time I go to pet him, which is a lot, he purrs, even though
he's not feeling great.

I will be gone for six days on a previously planned vacation, (bad
timing, I know). However, he will be staying with my vet, I'm really hoping
that she can get his ulcers cleared up. I absolutely will get him on lysine.
Just one more question if you all don't mind: Do I get it in liquid form or is
it a powder?

I'll email when I return to give an update. Can you send pictures on
this site? If so and if it's appropriate, I can send a picture of Smokey.

  Thanks, again,
  Kathryn

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Melina. I am new to this site and
really know nothing of this terrible disease. I have recently (just bringing
him home from the vets today) adopted the sweetest little boy who sadly has
this virus. He showed up a few days ago as a stray. My husband and I fell in
love with him and took him to the vet for shots, etc. Sadly, we were informed
that he has tested positive.

I really do not know what this means. Any information will be greatly
appreciated. I especially would like to know what I can do to keep him well for
as long as possible. The vet suggests Vitamin C. Any information will be
greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Kathryn

time. She was a VERY spunky little girl.My heart aches without her in my
life.I need to keep telling myself that I gave her so much love that she was
happy until the end.I will miss her little loving head butts and rubbing her
sweet face on mine.Ok now the tears are coming out. :( Once again thank you
all so much for having to listen to all my sadness. But I also get ALOT of
goodness out of these creatures.

I'm so saddened Sherry that Melina couldn't rally yet another time. My heart
honestly aches everytime I hear of another passing. It sometimes makes one
wonder just how much a body can endure. But I guess the courage and trusting
nature of these dear creatures makes it possible to go on.

Marley and Melina

2008-03-10 Thread Sherry DeHaan
On a much better note, they are both back at Sids. When i went in Saturday night
for my shift and saw in the book that they were back,I started to cry before I
even saw them. Then when I picked up beautiful little Melina and she started
rubbing her fce on mine, well lets just say she had a bath of tears. :) She has
won my heart from the second that I saw her.I know she wont be with us long but
she WILL know that she is loved.
As for our beautiful Marley,of course I cried when I held him too,he looks
pretty rough. He had to be put under to clean up his mouth and he now has a mild
case of Horners Syndrome. And it breaks my heart to see this guy like this.He is
a bit off balanced and just not quite Marley, but I read that these symptoms go
away in time.I hope so.Keep them both in your prayers. Thanks
  Sherry
