[Finale] Eps exporting Font problem
Hi all, Using Fin 2010b on Win7, I don’t understand why Times and some others fonts on lyrics are not successfully exported in eps? For example, the eps files openned in illustrator substitute Myriad pro font instead of Times font. (Sorry for my bad english) Some ideas? Thanks. [Finale] Old articulation library
G'day I'm trying to put fingering on a simple copy of Australia's national anthem for a young piano student. I made a copy of Yellow Submarine from scratch the other day and was able to do it fairly easily using the Articulation tool in WinFin 2011b. The file I am editing of Advance, Australia Fair is an old WinFin2003 file. But I can't find the automatic fingerings in the articulation library. I thoguht if I saved as a WinFin 2011 file they would magical appear, but alas No. Does anyone know how I can get the fingerings to appear in the articulation library, please? Thanks for any help you can give. David McKay ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
[Finale] Songs without words
G'day I love Mendelssohn's Lieder ohne Worte, but I'm not referring to them, but the habit of sheet music arrangers for piano to write out nice pianistic arrangements, but without the lyrics. Why? They are usually such an important part of the song, it is disappointing that they are not included. Is it cheaper to print the song without the words? I realise that some arrangements are so ornate it would be hard to fit the words to the music, but even simple arrangements where the melody is left unadorned are so often printed without this essential part of the song. Reminds me of the story of a woman meeting Richard Rodgers at a party and saying I love your songs. Especially My Favourite Things. What a great song. Oscar Hammerstein, standing nearby, says Actually he didn't write that. HE wrote Da da da DA da da Da da da Da da **I** wrote 'Raindrops on roses and whisker on kittens...' [I know I've got the wrong song, but that's the gist of the story.] David McKay ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
Re: [Finale] Old articulation library
A library file in Finale is an actual file, but it doesn't end in .mus, so you couldn't have saved it that way. What you should do is open an old file that you know has the articulations you want. Delete all the articulations except for the fingerings you want. Save the library (File menu Save Library... click on Articulations) from that file and if all goes as planned it will be saved in the correct place. Name it something you will remember. DO NOT save the .mus file, because it will no longer have all the articulations in it! Then open up the file you are working on. File menu Load Library... and select the library you just created. All the articulations that you had saved from the other file will be loaded. Exact duplicates will not be loaded, but even one tiny digit in one value different will cause a copy to be loaded. You will have to re-assign metatools, if you need them. I do not suggest trying to load libraries from old versions of Finale, though you might have success anyway. I have caused mucho corruption that way, as they do not import reliably. My method is the safest. Here's what I'd do: open the FIN 2011 file of Yellow submarine, isolate the fingerings in the articulation tool, select these, and save them as a Finale library. Then import the file of Advance, Australia Fair in 2011, and then load the articulation library you created containing the fingering indications. You should then be able to use the articulations in the new file. ns ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

Why? The answer might differ, depending upon the specific selection to which you refer, but I would venture one reason might be copyright. If one wants only the tune, and the words and music are under different copyrights, by not printing the lyrics one needs deal with only one copyright holder instead of two. A second consideration might be the intended use of the material. If its intended use is as background music where the words are not going to be sung, then again, why deal with a copyright holder you don't need to deal with? ns ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
[Finale] Linking score to parts
Hi, I've adjusted expressions in the parts. Is there any way to relink them to the score so that the score changes rather than the parts? Thanks! Steve P. ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

In general, when you move an expression in the score, it moves in both score and parts; when you move it in a part, it moves only in that part. You can override this behavior by holding down the override key when you drag; for Win, this is the Ctrl key (not sure about Mac). So if you hold down the override key while dragging in the part, the expression will move in the score as well, and if you hold down the override key while dragging in the score, it will only move in the score. If you've already dragged expressions in the parts and want to relink them to the score, you can right click on the expression in the part and choose Relink to score, or right click on the expression in the score and choose Relink in all parts. However, this will have the effect of setting the expression's position in the part to whatever it is in the score -- in other words, you will lose any manual positioning you've done in the part. I'm not aware of any way around this. Perhaps you're best off relinking all your expressions and then making adjustments again with the override key as needed. Re: {Spam} Re: [Finale] Linking score to parts
I usually adjust separately, but in this case after adjusting the parts it seemed that it would give me a headstart if I could do the same in the score. It seems impossible then. Mostly I'm going through some of the things that I've always thought I should be able to do but have always found it quicker to workaround. Steve P.
