Re: [Finale] Paper supply
Ray, Dave Berger says he can use more in the group. You can email him at swingb...@gmail.com Don't know when the next order will be made. Dave just lets me know when an order is going in and I commit to one to three boxes. To be clear to you and any others who might be interested - this is parts paper 9.5 X 12.5- the kind of paper that hand copyists used to use for recording dates and show music. I think it is ideal for this kind of use, and the quality is excellent - color and weight just what I prefer. However, it is not the size orchestras use (10 X 13). I hope this is helpful. Re: [Finale] Paper supply
I use Accent Opaque Warm White 70lb Offset from International Paper. You can order it by the case in standard sizes. However, I use 20x13 sheets (for booklet printing at 10x13). Before XpedX got out of the retail business I would order a ream of in large size (ca 34x17) and have them cut it down to as many 20x13 sheets as I could get out of it. I think the minimum order is 1000 sheets, so I would end up with 2000 20x13 sheets. At any rate, a local business took over one of the XPedX stores near me and I was able to do it again earlier this year. In the past, 2000 sheets lasted five years or so, and now it will probably last much longer (since I do so much less printing now in favor of sending PDFs). The cost was about $200, including the cutting. On Tue, Mar 11, 2014 at 1:59 PM, Raymond Horton horton.raym...@gmail.comwrote: Thanks! I came upon a company last year that may have what some of you guys are looking for - Limited Papers http://www.limitedpapers.com Thy have a wide variety of paper types, sizes, finishes, etc. They will cut large sizes into whatever size you need. I have looked everywhere for laser printer paper that is close to what the engraving houses have historically used. The closest I have been able to come is Cougar Digital Domtar Earth Choice Item 2227 250 sheets 100/40 lb (148 g/m2) This is white letter size. I think they make the same product in ledger size and in off-white. It is really good, but a smoother surface than traditional music paper. That works fine, but it just doesn't feel like the stuff most older music was printed on. This product is readily available, but probably not locally in most cities. Here is one supplier. I have never dealt with them. They only seem to have the white. White letter sized: http://www.supplyways.com/White-Cougar-Laser-Paper-8-5-x-11-Domtar-2227-p/dcdsw11100.htm White ledger sized: http://www.supplyways.com/White-Cougar-Laser-Paper-11-by-17-Domtar-2228-p/dcdsw17100.htm I have a supply of the beige paper, but I stupidly pulled off the label. I think this is the next lighter weight, 80/32 TEXT (not to be confused with cover weights.) That is 188 G/m2. The white version of that product is item# 2579. Here is the spec sheet from the manufacturer: http://www.domtar.com/files/paper/Cougar_Digital_Stocking_EN_0214_%283%29.pdf The natural color is only available in the Cougar Digital line as 80/32 TEXT. The white is available in the heavier 100/40 TEXT. IMHO 80/32 text is OK if you are always printing on double sheets (ledger size). But I think it is just a little light for a single page. I would love to find a 100/40 weight paper in natural color that doesn't have such a smooth surface. Thanks Chuck. I'd be interested in finding out more. Most of my projects are formatted for standard letter and tabloid sizes, though I have an upcoming project where that larger sheet would be useful. Craig, thanks for the links. I'm also looking for something with a rougher finish than what's most commonly available. Re: [Finale] Paper supply
Considering just how hard it is to come up with appropriate paper, this seems like something that Makemusic ought to consider handling. That would make a lot more sense than each of us going on individual scavenger hunts. I realize this would be a small sideline, but it would be a real service to their customer base. ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu https://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale To unsubscribe from finale send a message to: finale-unsubscr...@shsu.edu

I'm sure you have already been through their full catalog, but just for the record, they have a bunch of 100# text choices, which is a good weight. But they are all white and mostly glossy. http://kellypaper.com/shop/paper?basis_weight=835 I did see this one that is 70# text in a linen stock, natural color. I wonder if that would be heavy enough, given that it is linen. I only see it in 8-1/2 x 11 though. There is a good chart that correlates the various weight systems. The only one that is consistent across all paper weights is the G/M2 scale. To me, the 80# text which is the same as 32# writing is just a little light. It seems to me the ideal weight is around 150 g/m2, which is that 100/40 text stuff. 90# index or 60# cover is only a little heavier at 163 g/m2. Here are Cougar natural white in letter and ledger sizes at 65# cover which is 176 g/m2. That's getting a little heavy, but might be a good choice. Paper that heavy may not fold cleanly if you are printing 2-up on the ledger size. http://kellypaper.com/shop/paper/11-x-17-65lb-cover-cougar-natural-white http://kellypaper.com/shop/paper/8-5-x-11-65lb-cover-cougar-natural-white ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu https://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale To unsubscribe from finale send a message to: finale-unsubscr...@shsu.edu
