Re: [Finale] volume drop
This same file continues to give me problem. Every time I open the file to work on it, the volumes are changed for the Garritan sounds Flugel and Bass. Bass is too quiet and flugel too loud, despite there being no change in the volume numbers, in the Score Manager windows, since last time the file was opened. The only thing that fixes it is to unchek "Play Finale through Audio Units", check "Play Finale Through MIDI" then check Audio again. This done, the Flugel part now has some kind of trumpet and a higher number for volume; bass has a much lower number. So I need to choose Flugel again from the popUp menu and lower its volume, and raise the bass volume. Any clue as to why this happens every time? Some instruments are from Garritan others from SmartMusicSoftSinth. Tried clearing the MIDI data first, as suggested by Raymond, but did not work. This did work! Thanks everybody! Re: [Finale] volume drop
What I suggest is to make sure that you have located the measure where the volume reduction begins, and that you have a copy of that section in another file for reference. Completely remove the measure stack in the section you are working with. Try playing playing the piece and see if the reduction in volume continues to occur beyond the point where you deleted measures. If the problem has been fixed, then add the measure stack as it was, without notation, and then copy in the notation or rewrite it, and check each time you complete each instrument staff in the new stack. This will often show you where the problem is, or it simply fixes it. This may seem time consuming, but it really is the fastest way, in my experience. tim On Apr 23, 2016, at 2:26 PM, Raymond Horton wrote: Now, at a certain point, sax >> and trumpet volume drops considerably. They were in ASCII and you could actually hunt down the errors and fix them. Or sometimes just a save to ETF followed by open from ETF fixed the errors. I had a huge file (some 1,100 measures) back in the 1990s that suddenly was eating itself. I saved it as ETF, and reloading it fixed it. I'm not sure XML is quite as reliable as ETF was in terms of saving exactly what Finale has created. Re: [Finale] volume drop
Hi, This has happened to me as well. I sent the file to tech support and they were able to show me how to fix it, I remember that in my case clearing the MIDI data didn't work. Obviously you could try reloading the instruments, but one other suggestion might be to export the file to .xml and then reimport it. That is a solution support goes to often and it does work sometimes. Of course, their famous, "Oh, something's wrong? Trash your preferences." goto that is also often suggested by less experienced support staff is not usually necessary – and your preferences die, and one thing I've never had them say – not once – is that you'll lose all your preferences by doing this, and for newbies like me years ago, the dots are not always connected. Voila, they think they're helping, but the least they could do is tell you that you'll have a fair amount of work to do once you get a new preferences file, and that solution doesn't always work, either. Ok, that's my gripe. Anyway, when they suggest doing that as a first-line solution I always insist they try harder and troubleshoot in more detail and I've yet to have to delete that darn preferences file. -- Dean Rosenthal www.deanrosenthal.org www.stonespiece.com > On Apr 23, 2016, at 11:29 AM, Haroldo Maurowrote: > > This file used to be a song lead sheet created in an old version of Finale > Mac, I don't remember which. Yes, this is what I do. If it doesn't do it, then I look for expressions that were accidentally given values. A bad habit that I have is to copy expressions so that I don't have to hunt down font combinations, etc. -- but forget to remove or change the playback content. I run into this thing all the time. I clear the midi data, and that usually takes care of it. Highlight the affected passage and go to the edit menu/ clear items, select none, then midi.
