(Proper point releases or nothing), and due to some burn on Monkey

As it happens, it's the DateFormatter fixes you posted that we're

You can always go the 'monkey patch' route, or use a fixed SVN revision

As long as you have a reference to the PopUpInfom in your application
somewhere, and you have your source path set up correctly (look at the
parameters you can pass into mxmlc), mxmlc will include the class in

I must be missing something since I'm trying to do something fairly basic. It

First I got the dreaded 2032 Stream error, and after some digging saw that the

now I'm getting a ping failure?

Here is a sample of my service:

/mx:channelSet
mx:request xmlns=

2009-05-29 Thread valdhor
I'm fairly sure you don't NEED a channelset. From your code, it looks
like you have the URL set wrong.

First off, you are not binding urlInput.text to the url property of the
HTTPService - you are just passing the string urlInput.text. Secondly,
Do you really want to set useProxy to true? I have never needed to do
that.

Also make sure urlInput.text is set to a full URL (http://etc).

Try this...

mx:HTTPService id=connectPG
result=resulthandler(event) fault=fault_handler(event)
resultFormat=text showBusyCursor=true
url={urlInput.text}
useProxy=false method=POST
  mx:request xmlns=
  username{userName.text}/username
  password{userPW.text}/password
  /mx:request
/mx:HTTPService

RE: [flexcoders] HTTPService HTTPChannel 2032 Channel.Ping.Failed trying to do asimple form post

2009-05-29 Thread Peter Farland
If you've setup a crossdomain.xml file correctly then there's no need to set
useProxy=true for your scenario (you could just leave it as the default,
which is false).

The HTTPService url property does not appear to be marked with [Bindable]
metadata. You can programmatically change its in ActionScript:

connectPG.url = urlInput.text;

Note: The 'proxy' in useProxy refers to a BlazeDS ProxyService - if you were to
use BlazeDS then you'd either need to setup your own ChannelSet
programmatically and assign it to your HTTPService instance, or point the
compiler to the BlazeDS web application's /WEB-INF/flex/services-config.xml
file using the -services option.

[flexcoders] Need help writing alorithm

2009-05-29 Thread fumeng5
Hi,

I'm looking for help writing an algorithm in a filter function I am using.
Here's the situation: Based on a page number and a number of records per page,
I want to return all indexes that fall within a certain range. There are 4
records per page.

For example;

- page 1 will return indexes 0-4
- page 2 will return indexes 5 - 9
- page 3 will return indexes 10 - 14
etc, etc...

So, here are the vars:

var index:int = myCollection.getItemIndex( item );
var recordsPerPage:int = 4;

It's embarrassing, but this is what I have so far

if( page = index (page * page + recordsPerPage) )
return true

Can anyone offer some helpful insight, please?

Thank you for any help.

RE: [flexcoders] Need help writing alorithm

2009-05-29 Thread Kenneth Sutherland
Not sure I'm getting 100% what you're doing but hopefully this will help
you.

For page X you would do:

Min index = ( X - 1 ) * number of records per page

Max index = Min + (number of records per page - 1)

So page 1 gives you:

Min index is -(1 - 1) * 4 = 0;

Max index is - 0 + (4 - 1 ) = 3;

Page 4 gives you:

Min index is -(4 - 1) * 4 = 12;

Max index is - 12 + (4 - 1 ) = 15;

To get a page number from an index do this:

Math.floor(Index / number of index per page) + 1;

So index 3 gives you Math.floor(3 / 4) + 1 = 1;

So index 14 gives you Math.floor(14 / 4) + 1 = 4;

(your example below had 5 records per page not 4 as you had typed)

HTH Kenneth.

2009-05-29 Thread Rick Winscot
In order for a filter function to eliminate unwanted items everything in
your data provider will have to pass through that function... which probably
won¹t perform well as the number of records increase. If you aren¹t dealing
with large amounts of data it probably isn¹t a concern (just a thought).

On the flip-side you could use a paged ArrayCollection. There is a good
example on Adobe Developer Connection written by Peter Molgaard if you¹re
interested.

[flexcoders] Ideas / input greatly appreciated

Hi all.

I'm trying to find a low cost solution to do 1-1 screen sharing/remote
control, preferably inside a flex application, alternatively as a popup
window.

The application also need some other collaboration widgets, so I was looking
at Acrobat Connect, but I can't find any information about customization of
the user interface and adding new pods.

Any help You can give is much appreciated!

Screen sharing / remote control is a tall order for Flash based technologies
at the present time. You might want to take a look at the Acrobat Connect
Collaboration Builder SDK.

You can create an account that allows 3 people to connect... for free (has
this changed?). By Œtall order¹ I mean...

1. You cannot view a users desktop from Flash, Flex, or AIR
2. You cannot control the users computer (keyboard/mouse) from Flash, Flex,
or AIR

The only exception to this is Acrobat Connect which uses a custom plugin
to accomplish that feat. The only other alternative is to roll your own
solution with a wrapper like Merapi to give you access to OS screen/input
hooks which could be passed to AIR. A serious engineering effort to be sure.

Flash - flash sharing (i.g. whiteboard) is possible if that is what you
are trying to do... other than that you are out of luck. Have you looked at
Flash VNC?

http://www.darronschall.com/weblog/2005/11/flashvnc-released.cfm

Alternatively, you could roll a hybrid solution: use Teamviewer for the

Teamviewer is not an option since it costs $800 pr. Concurrent session. I
should have been more specific, I probably need to support around 20-30
concurrent sessions. Can I launch acrobat connect in a separate window
from within my flex app and possibly have flex listen for events in the
adobe connect.. So I can force focus back to the flex app when the user
closes the connect window

Okay.. Let me elaborate a little more.. The requirement is that instructors
and students are connected one to one.. And see/control each others desktop.

Flashlight-VNC is a VNC Viewer / Player written in Flash. It can connect to
a VNC server.

wouldn't that mean that all users need to install a vnc server for it to
work?

Also only the top 2 versions of acrobat connect pro have options for
customization and as far as I have been told the annual subscription for
connect pro is 50K USD

Hi Dharmendra

While you don't have access to JavaScript, would the old school methods still
work such as setting a Flash variable on the active x control. Back in older
versions of Flash the only way to communicate between the browser and the
ActiveX was to use things like setVariable then inside Flash you would have a
watch expression that watched for changes to that variable, and reacted. The
variable value could only be a string (I think). Back then we would change the
value of the variable from outside, have Flash react to the change, reset the
value of the variable to its non-set state. Assuming this would still work,
when the .NET application regained focus you would tell the ActiveX instance to
setVariable(focusReceived, true); and in Flash it would see that, reset the
listeners. One word of warning, if your resetting your listeners constantly,
are you doing anything to remove the old listeners first - if not that may well
be the source of your memory leak. I used the setVariable method in VB with the
old Flash active x controls a number of years ago and it worked flawlessly, you
just have to set it up right to begin with and it was obviously messier then
the ExternalInterface method.

 The HTTPService url property does not appear to be marked with [Bindable]

 connectPG.url = urlInput.text;

 Note: The 'proxy' in useProxy refers to a BlazeDS ProxyService - if you were

 programmatically and assign it to your HTTPService instance, or point the
 compiler to the BlazeDS web application's /WEB-INF/flex/services-config.xml

 I must be missing something since I'm trying to do something fairly basic. It
 really can't be this difficult, can it? I'm trying to use the HTTPService to
 post to a form. No web services. And I even put a crossdomain.xml policy file
 on the server for good measure.

 First I got the dreaded 2032 Stream error, and after some digging saw that
 the FaultEvent was complaining that no channels were set. So I added a
 ChannelSet, now I'm getting a ping failure?

 Here is a sample of my service:

 mx:HTTPService id=connectPG
   result=resulthandler(event) fault=fault_handler(event)
   resultFormat=text showBusyCursor=true
   url=urlInput.text
   useProxy=true method=POST
 mx:channelSet
   mx:ChannelSet id=pGChannelSet
 mx:HTTPChannel id=pGChannel pollingEnabled=false
   mx:url
 {urlInput.text}
   /mx:url
 /mx:HTTPChannel
   /mx:ChannelSet
 /mx:channelSet
 mx:request xmlns=
   username{userName.text}/username
   password{userPW.text}/password
 /mx:request
 /mx:HTTPService

 And when I call the send() method, the fault_handler() reports :

 [FaultEvent fault=[RPC Fault faultString=Send failed

Re: [flexcoders] Links in Flex Data Grid Collumns

2009-05-29 Thread Adrian Williams
You need to take a look at setting up a custom item renderer for the dg
column. As for an example, try searching flex datagrid itemRenderer to
get a good start.

in a nutshell, you create your itemRenderer as a separate component then
reference that component in your DG column...such as:

mx:DataGridColumn itemRenderer=rendererdirectory.URLRenderer/

we generally use this for hyperlinking email addys and it works great.
Our actual renderer is based on a Label and we override the set data
function, passing our dataItem into htmlText with the url info and then
we return the renderer. We have a click listener on the Label
declaration that (in the end) fires a navigateToURL() function.

Good luck!
Adrian

Hi Dharmendra

While you don't have access to JavaScript, would the old school
methods still work such as setting a Flash variable on the active
x control. Back in older versions of Flash the only way to
communicate between the browser and the ActiveX was to use things
like setVariable then inside Flash you would have a watch
expression that watched for changes to that variable, and reacted.
The variable value could only be a string (I think). Back then we
would change the value of the variable from outside, have Flash
react to the change, reset the value of the variable to its
non-set state. Assuming this would still work, when the .NET
application regained focus you would tell the ActiveX instance to
setVariable( focusReceived , true); and in Flash it would see
that, reset the listeners. One word of warning, if your resetting
your listeners constantly, are you doing anything to remove the
old listeners first - if not that may well be the source of your
memory leak. I used the setVariable method in VB with the old
Flash active x controls a number of years ago and it worked
flawlessly, you just have to set it up right to begin with and it
was obviously messier then the ExternalInterface method.

Sincerely
Mark R. Jonkman

Hi Manish,

   Thanks for the suggestion.

I wish , I could use java script to set the Focus but I do not
have luxury of Java Script as My application is running as ActiveX
control inside dot net based application.

Once the callback broken , communication from Ashokwave lib to swf
is not possible.

  Hi,

  Is there any way to tell the ADG to not re-render itself immediately after
  a propertyChanged even has been fired in the dataProvider?

  I have quite a wide row (lots of cells) and lots of custom logic that
  updates these dependent properties on each row. i.e. calculated columns. I
  am doing the calculations at dataProvider level vs labelFunctions. On each
  set function of one of my cells in the row I raise a propertyChanged
  event if the value was changed. Tracing through what the ADG is doing I'm
  finding that its re-rendering each time I raise this event even if its in
  the same row. Is there any way to tell the ADG to wait a few milliseconds
  in case another propertyChanged event comes in so as to render once instead
  of 10 times?

  If there is no ADG option what is the best pattern for this assuming I want
  to do this in my underlying dataprovider objects. Should I raise custom
  events and fake a itemUpdated once I know there are no more changes? I
  don't see a clean way to do this however since I never really know when I'm
  done, and using a timer or something of this nature seems like a major hack.

  -Tom

By explicitly tell the grid when to update do you mean manually calling
itemUpdated at the View level?. If so does the grid actually know to
re-render only that updated row? It seems to me that it always re-rendered all
visible cells regardless of what was changed. So passing null or a real row
into itemUpdated has the same results.

Also if I am to manully dispatch propertyChanged from my row, and I never
really know when I'm done updating all of my dependant cells is there any good
way to do this. i.e. Cell A update cell B and cell B update updates cell E, and
this can go on indefinatley. By catchign all property changed events at Row
level and using a timer of say 50ms i would almost guarantee that I wouldn't
rethrow more than a single propertyChanged event on any of the updated cells in
a row. Do you think there is a better way to do this?

[flexcoders] Re: HTTPService HTTPChannel 2032 Channel.Ping.Failed trying to do asimple form post

2009-05-29 Thread ciminop

Here's the link to my app, you can use view source to see what I'm doing. The
left hand fields allow you to configure the entry fields so you can change the
URL and point to a form with different input ids.
http://www.translunardesigns.com/postgradmed/PostGradMed.html

I obviously can't give out the id/password, but if you enter anything you
should see the page source appear in the output window. The URL is in the app
and configurable if you want to try pointing it elsewhere.

Here's the cross domain file for the site I'm trying to hit:
http://www.postgradmed.com/crossdomain.xml

I also tried pointing this to my yahoo login screen, and i know Yahoo has a
domain file that allows any domain. Still getting the same error.

 The HTTPService url property does not appear to be marked with [Bindable]
 metadata. You can programmatically change its in ActionScript:

 connectPG.url = urlInput.text;

 Note: The 'proxy' in useProxy refers to a BlazeDS ProxyService - if you were
 to use BlazeDS then you'd either need to setup your own ChannelSet
 programmatically and assign it to your HTTPService instance, or point the
 compiler to the BlazeDS web application's /WEB-INF/flex/services-config.xml
 file using the -services option.

 Here is a sample of my service:

 mx:HTTPService id=connectPG
   result=resulthandler(event) fault=fault_handler(event)
   resultFormat=text showBusyCursor=true
   url=urlInput.text
   useProxy=true method=POST
 mx:channelSet
   mx:ChannelSet id=pGChannelSet
 mx:HTTPChannel id=pGChannel pollingEnabled=false
   mx:url
 {urlInput.text}
   /mx:url
 /mx:HTTPChannel
   /mx:ChannelSet
 /mx:channelSet
 mx:request xmlns=
   username{userName.text}/username
   password{userPW.text}/password
 /mx:request
 /mx:HTTPService

 And when I call the send() method, the fault_handler() reports :

 [FaultEvent fault=[RPC Fault faultString=Send failed
 faultCode=Client.Error.MessageSend faultDetail=Channel.Ping.Failed error
 url: 'http://www.my_test_domain.com/beta/db_access.html'']

Re: [flexcoders] AIR auto-updates

2009-05-29 Thread Kevin F. Benz
I have found a couple of things but the numbers are pretty low. I¹m a big
Air fan.

Every once in a while, we would get a user that got an incorrect language
version. For example, a US computer ended up with a Portugese version of the
Air runtime. The numbers were small but in 45,000 users, it probably
happened 5 times. It had also happened prior to 1.5 with a Japanese version
being installed. Localized Air runtimes isn¹t something you can determine as
the installed takes care of it.

Likewise, and infrequently, an Air upgrade ended up displaying Black Boxes
or return an Error Code: 0 in the upgrade UI. Again low in population but
you need to be ready for this one as the only way to completely clean Air
out was to uninstall AIR, blow off the ELS/TLS directory (encrypted local
store), and reinstall. I could never reliably repro this.

My biggest critisizm about the Air installer/updater is the lack of
effective installation logging. Although you can configure Air to do some
rudimentary logging, you have to put a configuration file in a directory
that a Vista user doesn¹t have access to (see below). It should be an
installer option rather than what feels like a hack. Corporate IT
environments aren¹t crazy about the distribution of a RIA anyway (unless it
has a business purpose) and asking IT to troubleshoot an Air install
typically made for less than happy people.

Tight access privileges really weren¹t much of an issue other than testing
and user access of the filesystem. The Vista user, for example, can¹t even
get interactive access to their own ³Application Storage Directory² Air
alias. We made a mistake by using that directory (who knew) to download
into. Air could put files there, but we had a bunch of users that we
downloaded music to who couldn¹t end up finding it. We ended up moving our
storage outside of the Air aliases. Likewise the encrypted local store. We
bailed on using it (only an administrator can see it) and built our own
encrypted file structure.

K
