RE: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 with no history and cache
Uncheck the History option in the flex compiler settings to disable the history. The most reliable way to prevent caching is to append a unique number to the url. Many people use Date.time. Re: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 unkown issue
It sounds like you are looking for a CSS Selector that will not apply to every Button instance, but only vanilla ones. Is there a selector that does that? Alternatively, can you make your own custom Button Element (MyButton), by extending (inheriting from) the base Button class, then apply the CSS rule to your own custom Button? I'm actually very interested in the answers to these questions, since I haven't had the time to play much with Flex 2.0 yet :-) Example of what I'm saying: mx:Style MyButton { icon:Embed(source=icon.png); } /mx:Style mx:MyButton / or is something like this possible to set up? mx:Style MyNS|Button { icon:Embed(source=icon.png); } /mx:Style MyNS:Button / Thanks, Kevin N. RE: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 unkown issue
One option you could do is set the style inside your custom component. That way wherever it’s used afterwards that style will apply. Alternatively you *can* do the following as well …and should work: mx:Application xmlns:mx=http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml xmlns:custom=* layout=absolute mx:Style MyButton { font-size: 30; } /mx:Style custom:MyButton / /mx:Application Cheers, Stace From: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com [mailto:flexcoders@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Kevin Newman Sent: Wednesday, September 27, 2006 2:08 PM To: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 unkown issue It sounds like you are looking for a CSS Selector that will not apply to every Button instance, but only vanilla ones. I do not think it would be that simple. Java server configuration can be somewhat difficult. Java hosting never took off. Add just 1 hour of support time per month and the costs of the hosting becomes irrelevant. However, it is feasable by using dedicated machines in the same price range (I am using eSecureData.com - very good value and quality machines, and they do not sell beyond promissed capacity) . You need to provide preconfigured VMs with complete software stack preinstalled - pretty much the configuration Chris Coenraets described in his blog so that you have free good quality products hosted within either VMWARE or XEN infrastructure and place deployment responsibilities on the client. However, Java + OS has to be sized well beyond php requirements - at least 512MB, with clients needing more memory in most of the cases. With 75% of average server load you would need to charge around $70/mo just to get even - and that is with outsourced email-only support. RE: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 Hosting ( Cheap / Inexpensive )
Is it really that hard to just pay for a server or a virtual server and install it yourself? You can get decent virtual dedicated servers for like $60/month. It's not hard at all to install fds when you have root access to a server. Makes me think I should just do it and sell it as a service. --Kelly -Original Message- From: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Douglas McCarroll Sent: Wednesday, September 20, 2006 1:14 PM To: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 Hosting ( Cheap / Inexpensive ) I've checked with CFDynamics. Re: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 Hosting ( Cheap / Inexpensive )
I do not think it would be that simple.Java server configuration can be somewhat difficult. Java hosting never took off. Add just1 hour of support time per month and the costs of the hosting becomes irrelevant. However, it is feasable by using dedicated machines in the same price range (I am using eSecureData.com- very good value and quality machines, and they do not sell beyond promissed capacity) . You need to provide preconfigured VMs withcomplete software stack preinstalled - pretty much the configuration Chris Coenraets described in his blog so that you have free good quality products hosted within either VMWARE or XEN infrastructure and place deployment responsibilities on the client. However, Java + OS has to be sized well beyond php requirements - at least 512MB, with clients needing more memory in most of the cases. With 75% of average server load you would need to charge around $70/mo just to get even - and that is with outsourced email-only support. RE: [flexcoders] flex 2.0 logging
On the client, this shows up if you just turn on the client side logging facility. You can do this by adding the MXML tag: mx:TraceTarget/ It then goes into the flashlog.txt which lives in %HOMEDRIVE%\%HOMEPATH% by default. A couple of other notes on flashlog.txt it only shows up with the debug player and its location can be overridden if you have an mm.cfg in that folder which specifies a TraceOutputFileName property. If you are talking about server side logging using the FDS server, you go into WEB-INF/flex/services-config.xml, find the line which says level= and change that attributes value to Debug. Then make sure you have Message.* enabled as one of the patterns below. This logs a debug message in the app servers log file before and after each message processed by the server for each client. RE: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 - Passing Custom Java Objects to Flex
Hi Josh, _remoteClass has been deprecated since Flex 1.5 To create a mapping between AS3 and Java classes in Flex 2you have to use the [RemoteClass(alias=foo.bar.Classname)] metadata tag on your AS3 class. Check the Serializing data chapter (p. 1089) in the flex2_devguide.pdf for morre information. true, but if you export to AS3/FP9 then any AS2 code you have will need to be update to AS3 for the Flash 8 portion to work, I believe. That was the case with AS1/AS2 and with the added complexity of the new VM I can't imagine this case being any different. I feel that if I attempted your approach, only one of the panes would represent the current working copy, and hence would become out of date very quickly as code is edited. For the moment, I am using dual monitors, with a plain text editor "EditPlus" to view the second instance of the code, as it prompts me to refresh when the code has been changed externally to EditPlus. I'm hoping that Flex Builder will eventually come with a code window splitter, allowing you to view two parts of the same code file, in separate "split" windows. This feature exists on applications like MS Word, EditPlus, and a whole range of other applications that have a window into the content being edited. This would be really useful especially with a large caringorm framework, all your events defined at the top, and the command initialization at the bottom, its a pain to have to scroll up and down constantly to recall the event names. If you like, you can also tear off the view and As far as I know, Eclipse does not support split views out of the box, and while we could add it, there would be significant work involved, which is why we decided to wait untila later version to tackle this. Thanks, -Sho From: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Graham WeldonSent: Tuesday, May 09, 2006 6:16 PMTo: flexcoders@yahoogroups.comSubject: Re: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 Feature Request - Code view splitter Thanks for that Sho,Ideally, I would like to to operate as 2 separate views on the same file. This would allow me to make changes in working memory, and see the changes in both panes. Is the lack of this feature something that is imposed by the Eclipse base? Thanks.RegardsGraham WeldonSho Kuwamoto wrote: Hi Graham. This isn't a perfect solution, but you can open up two separate editor windows if you like.1) Right click on the document tab and choose "New Editor"2) Drag the tab of the newly created editor above (or below) the editor area. This feature exists on applications like MS Word, EditPlus, and a whole range of other applications that have a window into the content being edited. This would be really useful especially with a large caringorm framework, all your events defined at the top, and the command initialization at the bottom, its a pain to have to scroll up and down constantly to recall the event names.Thanks.Regards,Graham Weldon--Flexcoders Mailing ListFAQ: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/flexcoders/files/flexcodersFAQ.txtSearch Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexcoders%40yahoogroups.com Yahoo! RE: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 b2: List, itemEditEnd event
If the item was null we didn't do anything to create the item. The DataGrid doesn't know how to create a new item of your class so it may have just filled in the itemRenderer without doing anything. This allows you to create the object yourself, which you should probably do in the itemEditBeginning event. You'd get the information as to where the thing is about to be created and if it's null you'd go ahead and create an empty object and make sure that the it gets put into your dataProvider. I'm not sure if it will work, but I'm assuming otherwise we'd throw errors for the value being null. Re: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 Beta 2
Correct. Howerver, there is a lot of things that mxmlc does under the hood to setup your application that would be ridicolously long and uncomfortable to do in ActionScript. Here's a good description of how close you can get: http://www.helpqlodhelp.com/blog/archives/000140.html - Original Message - From: sergio_trejo_r [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com Sent: Friday, April 28, 2006 11:08 AM Subject: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 Beta 2 A general question on Flex 2.0. The only swc Im adding is corelib, which was downloaded from http://labs.macromedia.com/wiki/index.php/ActionScript_3:resources:apis:libraries#corelib. I guess its safe to assume that it was built with the Beta 1 compiler. I would have thought this was the problem except for the fact that I can build the same project through Flex Builder. The very same corelib.swc is added as a library in the project properties. When a library is added to a project using Flex Builder, is that the same as adding a library-path option to mxmlc? RE: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 b2: 'getClassByName' method of the 'flash.util' package
No, you must have a refernence to MyClass somewhere in your code in order for it to be linked in to the SWF at compile time. A string 'myPackage.MyClass' does not constitute a reference. This is not a bug - the compiler must optimize what classes are actually needed to keep the SWF size down. -Original Message- From: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of tyombria Sent: Wednesday, March 22, 2006 4:44 AM To: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com Subject: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 b2: 'getClassByName' method of the 'flash.util' package Hi, all. yes, you should be able to use the -theme option to specify the haloclassic.swc file: mxmlc -theme=c:/flexdeploy/frameworks/themes/haloclassic.swc -file-specs c:/myfiles/flex2/events/MultipleButtons.mxml hth, Matthew J. RE: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 Dashboard Project
Hi Sergio. I wrote a tutorial for the 1.5 charts on devnet a while back. You can find it here: http://www.macromedia.com/devnet/flex/articles/charting.html I would strongly encourage you to build your dashboard using Flex 2.0, if the option is available to you. While much has changed between 1.5 and 2.0, the bulk of that tutorial is still very relevant to the upcoming new version. For the most part, it's only once you get a little deeper into using charts that the changes will affect you. So read the tutorial, get your hands dirty, and post questions here. We're happy to answer them. We havent publicly distributed the 8.5 players on macromedia.com because its in Beta, and wont until we go final. If you want customers to look theyll need to install the Player themselves manually. RE: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 beta TextArea question
If I understand you correctly, heres the difference between your examples In your example where you set the vPosition from a Button: private function setLogVPosition():void { txtLog.vPosition = txtLog.maxVPosition; } the text in the text area was already set and fully drawn prior to setting the scroll position . All you are doing here is setting the vPosition on the text that is currently (and already) loaded into the textArea.. so theres no problem. In your other example, you were first changing the text of the textArea, and on the next line you set the vPosition. In this case, by the time you set the vPosition, the textArea had not fully updated with its new text. So, by calling validateNow() in between changing the textArea contents and setting the vPosition, you are telling the textArea to perform any necessary property updates, including redrawing if need be. So then by the time you set the vPosition, the textArea is ready to go. Let me know if that doesnt clear things up. -Mac From: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com [mailto:flexcoders@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Gordon Smith Sent: Thursday, February 09, 2006 6:37 PM To: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com Subject: RE: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 beta TextArea question Sorry, I'm not following you. RE: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 beta TextArea question
These were examples from someone else that I was trying to help, but that doesn't matter. You're explanation is correct, except for one detail... when you say including redrawing if need be. Calling validateNow() doesn't cause the player to redraw during the call, although it may cause the player to redraw later. The player always does delayed drawing that isn't in the middle of any ActionScript method. What validateNow() DOES do is force the methods validateProperties(), validateSize(), and validateDisplayList() to be called immediately if they would be called later. The validateProperties() method calls commitProperties(), and a TextArea's commitProperties() method sets the 'text' into its internal TextField, which then causes maxVPosition to be correct. - Gordon From: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com [mailto:flexcoders@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Mac Martine Sent: Thursday, February 09, 2006 10:24 PM To: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com Subject: RE: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 beta TextArea question If I understand you correctly, heres the difference between your examples In your example where you set the vPosition from a Button: private function setLogVPosition():void { txtLog.vPosition = txtLog.maxVPosition; } the text in the text area was already set and fully drawn prior to setting the scroll position . Re: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 beta TextArea question
it doesn't have to be wired to clientside code. You should be able to call the function.. What I'm guessing is that its a scoping issue. I think that your socket handler is scoped outside your call. Place a debug breakpoint and open up into debug mode. You should be able to see if that function is even getting called. No it doesn't, since it uses more height than it's supposed to use. Lemme create an example that you can test. http://213.193.146.35/temp/flex/srcview/ That's the code http://213.193.146.35/temp/flex/shot.jpg and that's a screenshot As you see, in the first textbox there is no width specified, and it takes a default width of 200px. The height is correct. In the second checkbox, the width is set to 100%. There's the bug, it shouldn't use that much height, since the text is only 4 lines high in this box (height should also change upon resizing the window) The third textbox is correct too, but I can't use a fixed width since the panel needs to be resizable This was working 100% in the alpha version. Nope, even tried it with a lipsum text: http://www.narcisten.be/flex/testBug3.jpg I also looked in the new examples explorer, where they use mx:htmlText instead of setting the text as an attribute, but no luck... In the second image (Beta 1) [1], you said the Text component does not size correctly. That's not true - it does, doesn't it? It's showing all the text. Can you explain a bit? RE: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 beta 1 impressions
Hi, Others can answer your main questions better than I can, but let me stress that you can still have a SWF compiled without need for a server that compiles MXML at runtime. This has not changed. -David From: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Jonas WindeySent: Wednesday, February 01, 2006 10:22 AMTo: flexcoders@yahoogroups.comSubject: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 beta 1 impressions Hi, I just installed the new beta release and Im having some problems. I have the feeling that the Tree component isnt working the way it worked before? (in the alpha version) When I give it an xml feed as dataprovider, it doesnt create childnodes automatically. Any ideas? Also the explorer folder in the samples folder doesnt seem to work anymore (since there are no .swfs anymore, I suppose they are all made to be run in an enterprise services 2 environment? Are we force to use this? I always liked the idea of an swf compiled without the need for a server who compiles the mxml files at runtime. RE: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 Remote database sorting
Yes, ListCollectionView is written to retrieve all data before it executes the sort because the Sort object expects to sort everything at once. You could write your own ICollectionView and just not actually call Sort.sort()and do your own thing (look at the SortFields within the sort when refresh() is called and then adjust your custom IList as appropriate). I wrote a custom class based on mx.collections.IList that retrieves the data in pages, handles caching and recycling of old items. Everything works fine so far. I've used a technique similar to Matt Chotin on his blog, but this works with Flex 2.0. Now I want to implement sorting on the Database. Flex 1.5 had a convenient mx.controls.listclasses.DataProvider class, which unfortunately isn't in Flex 2.0. What is the recommended way to implement remote sorting? Loading all data into memory and using ActionScript for sorting is not an option. I've tried wrapping a ListCollectionView around my custom IList with the aim of later providing a custom Sort class. This introduces it's own problems - the ListCollectionView wants to iterate over the entire list, which is a pain with large lists. Do I have to implement my own custom ICollectionView, IViewCursor, and extend Sort to achieve this? I can't see an easier way at the moment. Thanks for any advice, Dion. -- Flexcoders Mailing List FAQ: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/flexcoders/files/flexcodersFAQ.txt Search Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexcoders%40yahoogroups.com Yahoo! RE: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 Repeater not working
Title: RE: [flexcoders] Flex 2.0 Repeater not working You should have gotten a compiler error since the dataProvider should be in the camel case and your code has it in all lower case.
