If you are using transparency in Illustrator, I would save your graphics out as either EPS or PDF 1.3 for FrameMaker. EPS and PDF 1.3 do not support transparency, so the art will be flattened. As long as you use the default settings, it will include the original AI file, so you can open the file to edit it later. Be sure to use the High Resolution settings when flattening. If you use any higher PDF settings (during a Save As), the PDF will maintain any transparency and may not work properly. For older programs, EPS will work just as good, since the programs usually convert the PDF into an EPS internally. Plus, it is easier to manage in AI. Reset View Only
I had a power failure last night and my PC shut down (FM 7.1 Win XP). When I restarted, my book was locked as were all of the component files. I chose to reset the lock on all of them, except for one, which I must have fat fingered when presented the option. Now every time I update my book, I see the message, The file XXX is View-Only. FrameMaker might change this file while updating the book. I've closed and opened the book several times and restarted Frame, but to no avail. How can I reset it so that it's not view only and I can edit it again? Of course it's d-day, so natch these things are inevitable. J. Attempted to download something is kinda vague. Are you sure it was looking in the wrong place for the file? It sounds as if the program may have been either checking for updates or verifying its activation, which it might do either automatically or on a time schedule. URL does not work
Hi-- I created a hypertext marker from the command Go to URL in FrameMaker 7.2 p158 and created a PDF using Acrobat 8.1.1. When I click on the active area in the PDF in Acrobat 8.1.1, it went to the URL I selected. When I tried to click on the Active area with the PDF in Acrobat 7.0.9, Acrobat started to attempt to download something. Do you know why a hot link for a URL would behave differently in Acrobat 8.1.1 vs. 7.0.9 if I created it in A8.1.1? So, I'm looking for a way to produce a MIF file from a batch of HTML files. Looking through the list archives, I see that Omni Systems is/was considering the development of Go2Mif for this purpose. However, since I haven't heard anything recent about it, I'm assuming that its release isn't imminent, at any rate. Has anyone had any success in doing this? If so, what tools did you use? In the past, I've used XSLT to create MIF files from XML files. However, given that HTML frequently isn't well-formed XML, I'm not at all confident that an XSLT solution would be feasible. The quality of the HTML is probably okay. I didn't write it, and the person who did write it is no longer here. However, he used FrontPage to write in the first place. Since then, there have been a handful of manual edits to the HTML, but the quality should be pretty typical for FrontPage-generated HTML. Using Perl had occurred to me. You can use Mif2Go to convert HTML to mif. You can also use a tool called gregor. Do a google and you should find that it works well. I've converted HTML to .txt and then to .mif manually.
