RE: .tps files too big?

2014-08-19 Thread Zimmerman, Gary

Wow, yes, huge!

If you are working over a network, you might be running into a timeout problem.
If that's the case, try copying the source files to your local machine and
creating the PDF there.

Wow! 2.8 Giga bytes? That is a very large single file indeed. I am not
surprised that FrameMaker chokes.

If you are truly creating that large a .tps file, then doing the creation of
the PDF in multiple pieces and combing the resulting files in Acrobat may be
the only way to proceed.

Curiosity: what is the resulting size of the final PDF file if you combine the
multiple distilled outputs?

I'm doing a SaveAs PDF on a graphic intensive book and running into a problem
about the time the .tps file hits 2,800,000 KB. FrameMaker fails around that
point with an error dialog box that says:

Adobe FrameMaker 11 has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the
program and notify you if a solution is available.
(Button) Close program

Graphics include .ai files, pdfs as well as PNG files, all imported by
reference.

Anybody have an idea what might be causing this error and/or how I can avoid
it? The book distills fine if I split it into two parts. Files are on a network
drive.

Thank you.

Re: Mif2Go suddenly failing on all machines

2014-08-19 Thread John Sgammato
Hi Syed - attached (if it made it) is an example of a blocked file. If a
file is blocked, then you see it in the Properties > General dialog under
Attributes. If it is not blocked, then there's blank space there.
I figured out how to unblock the one that kept reblocking itself (by
copying it ot the desktop and unblocking it there, then copying it back)
but that did not fix the issue.
I searched this afternoon for duplicate DLLs and found none.
I may reinstall Calibre and then uninstall it with a more aggressive tool -
I am open to suggestions.
Here's my path:
%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;%OMSYSHOME%\common\bin;C:\Program

Zeroing in on a solution, I think:
(famous not-last words)

One of the steps to take after installing Mif2Go is to go through the new
.exes and .dlls and make sure they have write permission, preferably full
permissions.
Along the way, I see that many/all of the files are blocked by Windows,
which sometimes happens as a protective measure when adding files from a
foreign ZIP.
Having unblocked all the files, I see that m2gframe.dll always regains its
blocked status. It appears to respond to the Properties>Unblock command
normally, but when I go back to check the file properties again, it's
locked again.

Has anyone encountered this? Does it matter? (If you are successful
generating output, is your m2gframe.dll file blocked or unblocked?

WAS: Structured: about containers, NOW: Publish ePub

2014-08-19 Thread Theresa de Valence
Several people have advised me to stick to unstructured Frame for my
project, so I’ll comply.

To recap: To start my project I used the new Frame 12 templates by
Bernard Aschwanden for unstructured "user manual" because I wanted to
learn about how to use Frame in new ways (I had just upgraded from v8).
I then built a Frame book for my two crime fiction novellas which
generates TOC and publishes to pdf just fine.

Originally when I published to epub the chapters came out in a bizarre
order, so I thought that the underlying Frame book structure was somehow
"not coming through" to the epub—this is why I thought I had to move to
structured Frame. Now onwards.

Today, the Publish ePub successfully completes. Looking at the ebook in
Sigil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigil_%28application%29) the TOC is
completely screwy. Sigil has three panels: files in book, display of
selected file contents, and TOC. Clicking on any entry in the TOC
produces the error "File x does not exist", where x is the fm book
component file name.

There is also one CSS per file in book, so about 30 of them.

Ideas?

Thanks,
Theresa
