Does Fuji make Velvia in super 8? I'm supposed to be headed to Berlin in May with a bunch of students to make super 8 films for 5 weeks, and it's going to be a big bummer if all we have to shoot on by then is Tri-X. As of March 1rst 2012, here's the info that can be found on Kodak website: http://www.kodak.com/global/en/professional/products/colorReversalIndex.jhtml?pq-path=1229 They are only (but sadly) discontinuing the 135 slide film rolls; the 5285/7285 emulsions are still being produced. For thoses worried about not being able to shoot 35mm stills anymore, you just have to buy the 5285 and cut it down to load your cartridges (that's what I've been doing for years). Re: [Frameworks] Eclair NPR (motor and service)
Mariah, I would cancel the sale, but I guess it depends on what you paid and what is included in the package, and whether you plan to put more money into the package. In general, any used camera should be fully serviced to prevent any damage to internal parts and make certain everything is in alignment. Motor repairs can be expensive, depending on the damage and which motor it is. There were something like 15 different motors and modified motors made for the NPR. And depending on which motor it is, it might not be worth repairing. I would guess $300-1000 for a repair, a $1000 or $750 being the cost to replace it if it's considered dead by a tech. On of the best companies for motor repairs is AZ Spectrum in Maspeth, NY (Queens). http://www.az-spectrum.com/ There is also... • Visual Products in Wellington, OH • Man-sung (of SMS) is still doing repairs out of his home in Chicago In Los Angeles... You might try George Zorzoli, he said he would still do repairs for old customers, however you might need to inquire if you've not worked with George before... George does rebuilds of the old Ciblo motor and can do crystal conversions for non-crystal motors. His prices are generally pretty good. Also in LA... Richard Bennett at Cinema Engineering, if he cannot do it, he likely knows someone who can, he'll outsource to other technicians for items he does not specialize in Alan Gordon has parts but no service I would probably pass on this camera, there are lots of NPR cameras out there, and you might be better to buy from Visual Products or somewhere that can guarantee service As far as Du-All is concerned, I've never used them. Since George Gal is no longer running the company, I have only heard bad things about Du-All. Good luck, it's a great camera if you find a good one and get it serviced. [Frameworks] Lomo UPB-1A pouring issues
Hi all, I have recently got my hands on a second lomo developing tank. Now I've used my first developing tank for over 5 years and I've always had problems getting the chemistry in quickly. I pour half a ltr in and then I have to wriggle the black tube (a kind of up and pown motion) to get the rest of the chemicals to suck in. i thought this was normal until I got my second tank. The chemicals just glide in without effort. No odd tube movements needed. The tanks are identical so why wont my first one fill up properly? Any suggestions or have any of you had similar problems in the past? Thankskevin ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks

[Frameworks] XFest video on You Tube Unspoken Words
Hi folks, I've posted another video on You Tube at http://youtu.be/cQlcNDVUraY Unspoken Words is an improvisation taken from XFest 2012. XFest is an annual festival of improvisation curated by Walter Wright at 119 Gallery in Lowell, MA. Walter invites musicians, video artists, dancers and from the Boston area and out-of-town, and groups them in unique ensembles. Unspoken Words was performed with Tom Hamilton - electronics, Andy Allen - reeds, Flandrew Fleisenberg - drums, percussion, Junko Simons - cello. The title is an indirect reference to a video sequence of a woman talking into a headset that I obtained from a stock video tape. Her words are unheard, rather than unspoken. (poetic license and all that). XFest ROCKS! [Frameworks] Full Coat Mag Reader?
Hello: We recently acquired a collection of approximately 50 hours of 16mm neg films with matching full coat mag elements. We can transfer the film elements in house but need a full coat reader we can record from and later synch up the sound with picture. Does anyone know of any place were we could either purchase, rent or use a full coat reader in the SF Bay Area? Someone recently told me that San Francisco State may be letting some equipment like this go. Any practical (non lab) advice appreciated. Stephen: Just curious as to what you are using to transfer 16mm negative in-house. I was gobsmacked when someone on another list was running negative on an Elmo, which would render those negatives pretty unusable. Obviously you aren't doing that. You can often find 16mm dubbers on eBay, but remember you will need something that can be locked to either your scanner/telecine, or to video black. Later stepper-drive Magnatechs (model numbers have 4 digits except for the 636A and B) are an affordable choice, but you will need an external box to reference them to video black, or a shaft encoder to slave them to your transfer device if you are going to a video format (vs. files from a scanner). Otherwise you will have sync drift. Best, Jeff Kreines ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks
