If you have any excel list or any other info, you should share it?

Thanks!

Hi Péter,

One good resource is:

  http://expcinema.com/site/en/directory/festivals & the associated twitter
feed, @expcinema

40 Frames' http://www.16mmdirectory.org/exhibitors explicitly does not
include festivals. I have the feeling that Scott Stark's
http://www.hi-beam.net/links.html#Festivals is not up to date, although
"This week in avant garde cinema" (http://www.hi-beam.net/whats.html and
the weekly mailings) sometimes contains festival announcements and due
dates.

Certainly it's worth signing up for announcement lists and twitter feeds of
festivals you discover. Fan their Facebook pages. Bookmark their websites.
Add their deadlines to your personal calendaring system and set them up
with annual alerts so that, if the festivals don't send an email, you'll
remember to look and see if they're still around.

All directory projects eventually run out of steam, either temporarily or
permanently, and fall out of currency. It's hard for them to know about new
festivals unless the organizers are very proactive.

Our field would benefit from more options to crowdshare information. It
would be great if you were to go gather excellent information about
festivals and circulate a spreadsheet. But how much better to have a
centralized place, like expcinema.com, but with user accounts that let
festival and venue organizers keep their information up to date (and with
automated periodic emails to remind them to do so). There are many dangers
of the Yelp model, but feedback about quality of festivals and also reports
of date and venue changes that don't come from "official" sources can be
extremely helpful.

Guess it's a soapbox Saturday. I'd also like to see a pooling of
bibliographic information from makers and writers, assembled and made
available using Zotero (https://www.zotero.org/).

Eric

I managed to take unopened photographic chemicals packed in a suitcase that
went in the aeroplane hold from Manchester to Barcelona.

Check with your airline. The other option I considered if you have time is to
buy stuff online and have it posted to the address you will be at abroad…

Good luck!

Also, you should know that it's probably cheaper to get an E-6 kit at
B&H Photo in NYC than to buy it in the UK. You'll have to push through
the ludicrous crowds and offensive security at B&H, but it's no worse
than the airports...

The Tetenal E-6 3 baths kit that Heath is referring to is available
from Freestyle
photo.
I wouldn't risk carrying that stuff in my luggage, if there's a spill or
anything... Also, it is quite heavy (unless we're talking about the 1L
kit). Best thing would be to ship it if you really want to hold on to that
specific box that you got in the UK.

Best,

Philippe

Re: [Frameworks] Traveling With Photo Chemistry

2014-05-24 Thread Erin Weisgerber
I have flown between the United States and Canada with photo chemistry
without too much trouble.
I have brought 3-bath E6 kits on the plane as well as raw chemicals to mix
my own B&W reversal chemistry.
In each case I printed out the chemical recipes, processing instructions,
and MSDS for each chemical and packed these in the luggage with the
chemicals.
Twice I have had my baggage opened and searched, and both times the
chemistry made it through.
I phoned everyone I could - the airlines, boarder services, federal
transportation agencies - and no one could give me a clear answer about the
legality of flying with the chemicals.
On the other hand, it is true that it would be awful for the stuff to
spill, and you can readily order it from Freestyle Photo (Tetenal or Arista
kits) or Photographers Formulary (raw chemicals used in photographic
processing) in the USA.
Good luck!
Erin

[Frameworks] renting equipment in Paris and Berlin

2014-05-24 Thread Erin Weisgerber
Hello all,

I will be shooting parts of a documentary in Paris and Berlin between June
8 and 13th and I am hoping to rent a couple of small items while I am there:

- a very light-weight fluid-head tripod (such as the Sachler FSB6 SL MCF)
- small, portable lighting and stands (such as 6" led's)
- C-stand with gobo arm
- boom pole
- lav mic

I am wondering if anyone can suggest where an independent filmmaker might
find this type of equipment for rent in these cities?

Thanks for your help!

for berlin: cheapest but not necessarily the most reliable is indycine. second
cheapest but definitely more reliable would be Dino Wunderlich. both should
show up on google...
