Tunnelling between Cisco and Freebsd

2013-10-13 Thread Monah Baki
Hi all,

I am running FreeBSD 9.2. The FreeBSD server in on a private IP,
192.168.1.6. I have only one public IP and that's on my verizon firewall
configured to port forward to my FreeBSD server.

I do not control the Cisco device, but here is the config that was sent to
me:

interface Tunnel10
ip address 10.1.1.1 255.255.255.252
tunnel source GigabitEthernet0/0/2.1 (187.255.253.1)
tunnel destination 107.48.4.129

Here is what I did on my FreeBSD:
ifconfig gre0 create
ifconfig gre0 10.1.1.2 10.1.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.252
ifconfig gre0 tunnel 192.168.1.6 187.255.253.1

Now I can ping 10.1.1.1 (his end)

But when I try to add a static route for his subnets via his tunnel IP, it
fails

root@devsrvr:/root # route add -net
187.255.252.0/22http://197.255.252.0/2210.1.1.1
route: writing to routing socket: Network is unreachable
add net 187.255.252.0 http://197.255.252.0: gateway 10.1.1.1: Network is
unreachable

Am I missing anything? It's my first time configuring a Tunnel.

DNS Proxy

2013-09-14 Thread Monah Baki
Hi all,

I'm running FreeBSD 9.2 with squid for a friend who owns an ISP outside the
U.S and uses my FreeBSD squid proxy to access netflix. I've been told this
can be also accomplished via DNS Proxy. Is it true?

If yes which one do you recommend?

Server crashes

2007-12-23 Thread Monah Baki

Hi All,

I'm running a very old server (P3, dual 600Mhz, SCSI 9GB harddrive).
Applications that I run on it is MySQL and Apache. I have no problem with
server uptime but I am not able to update because once I run the command:

make buildkernel KERNCONF=SMP

Server crashes here

-I/usr/src/sys/modules/aic7xxx/aicasm/../../../dev/aic7xxx/aicasm -c

This happens everytime, is there anywhere I can look to see what's going
on, or if it's a hardware problem, where is the cause so I can replace.

Thanks

Hello,

Thing is no error pops up on screen during the make buildinstall, computer
just freezes and I have to reboot.

Isn't there any command that might help figuring if any hardware is acting

ntfs-3g problem

2007-10-15 Thread Monah Baki

Hi all,

We're in the process of copying 600GB to a ntfs volume on freebsd 6.2. I
rebooted the server and now all 200GB of data that I copied are no longer
visible. If I issue the command df -h, I see 200GB used.

How can I retrieve them.

I installed from ports fuse-ntfs and ntfsprogs

Re: ntfs-3g problem

I copied 7 files totaling 280GB. I then rebooted the freebsd box (without
unmounting the ntfs partition) and then when I tried to mount the
partition mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/da0s1 /mnt/windows), all files where
missing. I could not even see them on the windows server. Yet df -h shows
almost 300GB of diskspace used

I am not quite sure just what you are staying. But, if I sort of get it,
probably you only have to close off the file that you are writing - or
is it not one big file.

1 TB data copy

2007-10-12 Thread Monah Baki
Hi all,

We have a windows 2003 server and 1 freebsd 6.2 server. The 2003 server
supports USB 1 while the freebsd supports usb 2.
We went and purchased an external 1 TB usb 2 harddrive.
Our objective is to copy 700GB worth of data from the windows to the freebsd
server then take the external harddive to a remote client who runs windows
2003 and then copy the data back to the windows server.
The throughput of copying the data from windows to the usb attached to it
was ridiculous, more than 12 hours to copy 60GB of data.
I tried copying a 1GB file from windows to the usb attached to the freebsd
and it took less than 5 minutes, but ofcourse when I tried to mount the
usb back to the windows box I could not see the 1GB file that I copied.
How can use the freebsd as the destination copy since it has a much better
throughput and at the same time have the windows box see the 600GB file
that was copied once I attach the usb harddrive to it.

Thanks

As I recall, the native FreeBSD NTFS support is read-only. However, the
NTFS-3g project has a mostly complete (and pretty safe) read/write
implementation as a FUSE program, which can be found in ports:

 sysutils/fusefs-ntfs
 sysutils/ntfsprogs

FreeBSD NTFS is not read only, but there are restrictions on what it
can write. To quote the man page:

There is limited writing ability. Limitations: file must be
 nonresident
and must not contain any sparses (uninitialized areas); compressed
 files
are also not supported. The file name must not contain multibyte
 charac-

If your file name uses only ASCII characters, you will be probably be
OK using mount_ntfs to write to an NTFS filesystem. I've used it for
years, but mostly for reading files. The few times I've used it for
writing, it worked fine. I think you are most likely to have problems
if you use it to edit an existing file.

Freebsd 5.4+samba

2005-12-11 Thread Monah Baki

Hi all,

I just installed Freebsd 5.4 with samba 3.x, I'm running a calyx
software, and the 6 clients are winxp.
The smb.conf is as simple as possible. I noticed that some clients
are very slow to connect to the share drive and run a database search.
The server is a dell 8400 optiplex, no scsi HDD (sata I think), 3Ghz
and 512MB Ram.
I was wandering if there's a way to optimize samba, or freebsd. Right
now performance wise is worse then when they connect to the same
database on a win2003 server and I need to get the win2003 server out
of the picture.

IPsec How-to

2005-03-31 Thread Monah Baki
Hi all,

I'm reading the FreeBSD handbook, the vpn over ipsec how-to section, but how
do I apply it if I have 1 freebsd machine with 1 NIC, and multiple XP boxes in
a LAN. All communications nfs, ftp etc etc to that Freebsd machine must be
encrypted.
Can it be done? is there any how to for this scenario somewhere?

USB Keyboard

2005-02-18 Thread Monah Baki
Hi all,

I'm running Freebsd 5.3 on a Dell GX280 that has both a USB keyboard and
mouse. My problem is I added to my /boot/loader.conf file --

However, when I need to drop to single user mode, I can no longer use the
keyboard.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

flash support

2003-12-30 Thread Monah Baki
Hi all,

I'm trying to setup freebsd 4.9 at work as a desktop. I'm having problems with flash,
even
though I installed it from ports (linux-flashplugin-6.0r69 and
flashplugin-mozilla-0.4.10_2 and
to name a few ), I still can't view some sites.

www.macromedia.com (it says I need to download linux flash
whatisthematrix.warnerbros.com/vtour/zionarchives.html (nothing shows up)

I applied what the install said about copying some files to the plugins directory of
mozilla.

Hi all,

I'm running the Freebsd 4.9 with mplayer 0.91 and mplayerplug-in for the ports tree

mozilla 1.4.
I tried to view the spiderman trailer from apple's website, medium screem no problem,
but when
I try to choose large screen or full screen, I get a black display, and the following
message
(repeated 20 times) shows up on my terminal:

It works fine with medium screen.

Stuck on GDM and GNOME 2.4

2003-12-27 Thread Monah Baki
Hi all,

I installed from ports gnome 2.4 and gdm on Freebsd 4.9. I copied factory-gdm.conf to
gdm.conf, I also copied gdm.sh.sample to gdm.sh.
I still can't start gdm I get the following error messages:

Dec 27 10:03:15 trinity gdm[193]: Failed to start X server several times in a short
time period;
disabling display :0
Dec 27 10:08:05 trinity gdm[252]: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error -
Restarting :0

One thing I noticed in the mailing list is not to start gdm at boot time. Which file
is needed for
that so that I can disable it.

Thank you.

Mozilla weirdness

2003-10-16 Thread Monah Baki
Hello,

I just upgraded my ports tree and I'm running gnome 2.4 with mozilla 1.4. I logged in
as my
username (not root) and double clicked my mozilla icon (which was pointing to
/usr/X11R6/
bin/mozilla). 2 things I got confused is it gave me a dialog box saying which profile
to use (by
default, there was default), so I clicked choose defaut profile, it responded it's
already in use.
Then all of a sudden every 2-3 seconds it gave the same dialog box and I couldn't
quit, so I had
to reboot.

This is my 'top' as you can see a lot of mozilla-bin running, any suggestions will be
highly
appreciated. Thank you.

gdm crashes

2003-10-13 Thread Monah Baki
Hi all,

I upgraded my freebsd 5.1 ports tree, so I can install gnome 2.4. When everything was
installed,
I tried running as root gdm, I got the following error:

gdm_cleanup_children: Slave crashed, killing its children.

This happens when X is about to start the login screen, flickers and drops to a shell
and gives
this error. This happens for 8 times, then this remark:

The display server has been shut down about 6 times in the last 90 seconds, it is
likely that
something bad is going on. I will wait for 2 minutes before trying to login again on
display :0.

I also patched the following

http://people.freebsd.org/~marcus/pam_get_user.c.diff

By default, I setup the system to run wmaker, so if I type startx, I can get in no
problem.

Thank you

Blue-1.0.tar
qt6dlls.tar.bz2

Those too are the same files that freebsd looks for, but all I get is a white dialog
box saying
loading movie, when I click on a movie in quicktime.apple.com.

mplayer quicktime killing me

2003-09-02 Thread Monah Baki
Hi,

I got mplayer and openquicktime running 3 days ago, don't know how I did and I can't
seem to
replicate the procedure.

I'm running 5.1/Windowmaker, and I know I need to install from ports:
multimedia/openquicktime
multimedia/mplayer
www/mplayer-plugin
www/mozilla (1.4)

When I go to quicktime.apple.com/trailer, a white background shows up and no movie (it
says
mplayer-plugin - loading movie) nothing else.

However my xterm displays the following:

Reading config file /usr/local/share/mplayer/mplayer.conf: no such file or directory
Can't load font bitmap: iso-8859-1-a.raw

I searched my system for mplayer.conf, it does not exist.

Thank you (this time I'm documenting)

/dev/dsp: device busy

Hi all,

I'm using Freebsd 4.8 and mozilla 1.4. Whenever I go to google.com or yahoo.com to

something, I get /dev/dsp: Device busy. I can get to any url, but can't seem to search
for
anything (cnn.com, in the dialog box to getting my home town weather, will not
work).

Thank you.

Quicktime Trailers

2003-08-30 Thread Monah Baki
Hi all, I'm trying to setup a Freebsd 5.1 machine to be able to watch quicktime
trailers from
apple's website. I installed from ports:
qtutils
libquicktime
openquicktime

However, the site tells me I'm still missing a plugin and can't view the trailer. Any
help will be
highly appreciated.

Thanks.

Thank you, I'm now farther than where I was before, however, when I click on the
trailer, a
dialog box for mplayerplug-in pops up and its says loading movie but nothing else
shows up,
background is white.

To get a plugin in your browser I recommend to use ports/mplayerplug-in. That should
allow
you to view the trailer. If you get no sound, don't worry. That's not your fault. Some
new trailer
use an audiocodec which I only got in the latest windoze qt-player. It won't even play
sound on
a Mac.

Ports question

2003-08-26 Thread Monah Baki
Hi all,

I recently upgraded my ports directory. I created the directory/file
/usr/ports/package/INDEX.
When I run /stand/sysinstall and configure a package from a existing filesystem

can see all the files, but when I try to install a package, I get the error:

Unable to fetch package bash-2.05b.007 from selected media. No package add will be
done.
