Subject: How setup modem ZTE AC8700. It is no have driver for UNIX

I am very need to setup and work in FreeBSD 6.2 (for example)
on my modem ZTE AC8700 (this is 3G modem)

___

Does the modem show up as a serial device? Can you give us a dump from
dmesg when you plug the modem in?

Chances are you'll be able to use it as any regular serial modem however
you may not be able to control the modem as finely as you can under
Windows (no configuring it to stay on one network, for example)...

If you can give us at least some output though, from when you plug it
in, we may be able to help you out.

PF NAT, how to forward GRE?

2007-09-26 Thread Paul Fraser
Hello list,

I've got a box serving as a router between a wired and wireless network,
as well as providing NAT services for a WAN link to the two
aforementioned systems.

I'd like to forward all incoming GRE traffic on the WAN link to a system
on the wired network. Could anyone advise how?

I thought the PF manual was perhaps a bit vague about forwarding
specific protocols (or for that matter, if it's even possible)...

Cheers,

Paul.

No real consolation at this point, however I experience the same problem

Hi Alain,

Try replacing 'kernel.GENERIC' with 'kernel.old' in your example. If you
don't remember actually making a copy of your kernel and naming it
kernel.GENERIC, you'll be more likely to succeed with kernel.old.

flash7/Youtube running in a native browser.

Actually that's not entirely true - the only problem is sound drops
out of sync almost straight away, but otherwise it works just fine.

Thank you very much David, that's done the trick! I much prefer having

isc-dhcp3-server in a jail?

2007-06-03 Thread Paul Fraser

Hi all,

I'm playing around a bit with jails here, and have decided to try and
set one up to run simply the essential network services - namely
bind and dhcpd. I've managed to get bind working fine within the jail
I've set up, but damned if I can get dhcpd to.

Here's what's happening:

I've build dhcpd with support for sockets, as required to run in a
jail. I've then specified in rc.conf I want dhcpd to start and to
listen on interface re0 (the Realtek Gig-E card in the jail host).

I start dhcpd (/usr/local/etc/rc.d/isc-dhcpd start;) and get the following:

Starting dhcpd.
Internet Systems Consortium DHCP Server V3.0.5
Copyright 2004-2006 Internet Systems Consortium.
All rights reserved.
For info, please visit http://www.isc.org/sw/dhcp/
Wrote 0 deleted host decls to leases file.
Wrote 0 new dynamic host decls to leases file.
Wrote 0 leases to leases file.
Listening on Socket/re0/192.168.72/24
Sending on Socket/re0/192.168.72/24

Now that does appear to be the correct network, but when I try and
obtain a lease on any client machines on this network, I fail.

Can anybody offer any insight into this?

A very popular solution is screen (sysutils/screen). Run a screen
session, then you can share the session from any number of clients, or
attach/detach at will. Quite good if, for example you're running a
process (within a screen session, of course!) in an xterm, and you
want to restart X. Simply detach the screen session, restart X, then
reattach screen to your xterm.

/dev/psm0 and Xorg woes

2007-06-01 Thread Paul Fraser

Hi all,

I've got an interesting problem which only just appeared today on my
6-STABLE laptop. Upon boot, gdm fails to load with the following
error:

gdm[874]: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0

gdm[965]: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0
gdm[871]: Failed to start X server several times in a short time
period; disabling display :0

Looking at the end of Xorg.0.log seems to indicate this is a problem
with the Synaptics Touchpad on the notebook (/dev/psm0):

I do have hw.psm.synaptics_support=1 defined in /boot/loader.conf, and
the kernel does identify it as a touchpad on boot:

psm0: PS/2 Mouse irq 12 on atkbdc0
psm0: [GIANT-LOCKED]
psm0: model Synaptics Touchpad, device ID 0

Trying to do cat /dev/psm0 gives me the following error:
cat: /dev/psm0: Resource temporarily unavailable

To me (though I'd hardly say I'm qualified to say for sure) this seems
to be the cause of the problem. I'm not running moused on this system,
so there shouldn't be anything locking the device.

Does anybody have any suggestions? It's quite frustrating, suddenly
being unable to use Xorg on my notebook when it was working perfectly
well just yesterday. But darned if I can think of what changes I
made...

FWIW, the touchpad does work fine under Windows.

Thanks for the help, Daniel. Now I do have a functioning mouse cursor
and Xorg does indeed start, but the Synaptics driver won't load. I'm
guessing because the touchpad is filtered via /dev/sysmouse and it
can't pick up what it needs to run correctly.

Now I get the following if I try and use the synaptics driver in Xorg:

(EE) Synaptics Touchpad no synaptics touchpad detected and no repeater device
(EE) Synaptics Touchpad Unable to query/initialize Synaptics hardware.
(EE) PreInit failed for input device Synaptics Touchpad

Then Xorg fails to start with the errors I mentioned earlier.

For the moment I've reverted to the generic mouse driver - at least I
can get to X, although the touchpad is still lacking all its wonderful
goodies which made it a pleasure to use (scrolling, etc).

(Also sending back to the list as I've got an annoying habit of
hitting reply, instead of reply all)
