lang/gcc compile errors to build the port

2013-09-10 Thread Xavier
Hi,

I updated the system port:

root@acer_casa_FreeBSD:/root # portsnap fetch update
Looking up portsnap.FreeBSD.org mirrors... 7 mirrors found.
Fetching snapshot tag from ec2-eu-west-1.portsnap.freebsd.org... done.
Latest snapshot on server matches what we already have.
No updates needed.
Ports tree is already up to date.
root@acer_casa_FreeBSD:/root #

I have updated all ports:

root@acer_casa_FreeBSD:/root # portmaster -Da
=== Starting check of installed ports for available updates

=== All ports are up to date

=== Exiting
root@acer_casa_FreeBSD:/root #

I paste the last lines of compile errors:

There is just an opening of 20090912 ( for lang/gcc44 ) and I guess is
not relevant for this problem.
I haven't found any relevant information about this problem.

As a last resource I ask in this mailing list, if any can help me to
fix this problem.

See you.

  Hi,

 Authoritative answer: Maybe

 It's not clear =exactly= what you're asking.

The standard FreeBSD video driver supports 80 and 90 column wide text
displays, with the caveat that 90-colum mode may not be usable on some
 laptops.

If you're dealing with a graphics display, minimal VGA is 640x480 pixels.
virtually every even remotely moddern display supports 800x600 as well,
many support 1024x768, and a fair number go to even higher resolutions.

'man vidcontrol' will tell you how to find out what is supported on _your_
 machine.

For example if I try to set 40x25 text mode with VIDCONTROL(1) it don't
work.
And 'vidcontrol -i mode | grep T' show this mode.

I don't understand why if 40x25 mode if supported, VIDCONTROL(1) don't
set it ?

Thanks, see you.

a copy of ASL dump for acer aspire laptops models

2013-05-26 Thread Xavier
Hi everyone,

I need a copy of ACPI Source Language (ASL), '# acpidump-dt
copy_model_laptop.asl' of any version of FreeBSD you have the option
ACPI always enabled and does not give any problem on ACER laptops.

Anyone can send me a copy of your ASL dump ( see above ) of ACER
ASPIRE laptops model?

Thanks, see you.

There is probably a compiler error somewhere before the lines that you posted.
Can you show a little bit more?

I don't show more lines because the log is very long for paste here.

I can send directly to your private email the 1.6 MB of log file ? For
your review.

Don't send me the whole log file! Using e.g. grep(1) or the old-fasfioned

OK.

eyeball look for the _first_ line in the log file that contains the word
error. Post that line and some lines before and after it here on the mailing
 list. At a minimum, these lines should show;

  - what was the command that failed (compiler, linker, ...)
  - what was the _exact_ error message?
  - which file was it processing when the error occurred?

 For an example look below:

clang -O2 -pipe -pipe -fmerge-constants --fast-math -DDEBUG -pipe
 -fmerge-constants --fast-math -DVERSION=\3.0.0beta2\ -DPACKAGE=\stl2pov\
 -c ftobuf.c
 clang: error: unsupported option '--fast-math'
 *** [ftobuf.o] Error code 1

 Stop in /home/rsmith/src/progs/attic/stl2pov3.

The line containing the word error tells you what went wrong. In this case
the clang compiler got an option it doesn't recognize. The line _before_ shows
the actual command that was run. The line _after_, starting with '***' is a
notification from the 'make' program that building the file ftobuf.o failed.
But this line is _useless_ without the lines before it.

Here an overview of log error:

( I cut in middle log for limit of 500 KB in pastebin.com web site ).

About this email subject, on acer Aspire 5634WLMi machine and
9.1-RELEASE OS, FreeBSD shutdown the machine automatically in few

In freebsd-es a similar problem was reported some months ago. The cause is
fan switch off after startup menu and rising temperature. It looks like ec
controller problem (Acer doesn't provide documentation about Embedded
Controller, all is done by try and error and can damage the laptop)

Yes, is the same situation.

I don't solved the problem. For this reason I post here now. And, I
wait a long time for try new situations and not crossposting the
problem in other mailing list.

How can I debug the reason of the problem ?

A not so good wokaround is down the temperature where cpu Hz is adjusted:

 #sysctl hw.acpi.thermal.user_override=1
 #sysctl hw.acpi.thermal.tz0._PSV=65C
 #sysctl hw.acpi.thermal.user_override=0

First of all, I load the correct ACPI mapping driver for acer laptops
( this situation ):

acpi_wmi(4)

root@casa:/root # kldstat | grep acpi
 41 0xc13dd000 462c acpi_wmi.ko
root@casa:/root #

Now I try yours values:

First, de defaults values:

root@casa:/root # sysctl -a | grep hw.acpi.thermal.user_override
hw.acpi.thermal.user_override: 0
root@casa:/root # sysctl -a | grep hw.acpi.thermal.tz0._PSV
hw.acpi.thermal.tz0._PSV: -1
root@casa:/root # sysctl -a | grep hw.acpi.thermal.tz1._PSV
hw.acpi.thermal.tz1._PSV: 95,0C
root@casa:/root # sysctl -a | grep hw.acpi.thermal.user_override
hw.acpi.thermal.user_override: 0
root@casa:/root #

I change to your suggerations:

root@casa:/root # sysctl hw.acpi.thermal.user_override=1
hw.acpi.thermal.user_override: 0 - 1
root@casa:/root # sysctl hw.acpi.thermal.tz0._PSV=65C
hw.acpi.thermal.tz0._PSV: -1 - 65,0C
root@casa:/root # sysctl hw.acpi.thermal.tz1._PSV=65C
hw.acpi.thermal.tz1._PSV: 95,0C - 65,0C
root@casa:/root # sysctl -a | grep hw.acpi.thermal.user_override
hw.acpi.thermal.user_override: 1
root@casa:/root # sysctl -a | grep hw.acpi.thermal.tz0._PSV
hw.acpi.thermal.tz0._PSV: 65,0C
root@casa:/root # sysctl -a | grep hw.acpi.thermal.tz1._PSV
hw.acpi.thermal.tz1._PSV: 65,0C
root@casa:/root #

I look for the temperature at the moment:

root@casa:/root # sysctl -a | grep temperature
acpi_tz1: temperature 67.0C: decreasing clock speed from 500 MHz to 250 MHz
acpi_tz1: temperature 67.0C: decreasing clock speed from 250 MHz to 125 MHz

hw.acpi.thermal.tz1.temperature: 72,0C
dev.cpu.0.temperature: 75,0C
dev.cpu.1.temperature: 75,0C
root@casa:/root #

I try compile one port ... :

... while compile I look the temperature:

root@casa:/root # sysctl -a | grep temperature
acpi_tz1: temperature 67.0C: decreasing clock speed from 500 MHz to 250 MHz
acpi_tz1: temperature 67.0C: decreasing clock speed from 250 MHz to 125 MHz
hw.acpi.thermal.tz0.temperature: 95,0C
hw.acpi.thermal.tz1.temperature: 94,0C
dev.cpu.0.temperature: 92,0C
dev.cpu.1.temperature: 92,0C
root@casa:/root #

I break the compilation because if hw.acpi.thermal.tz%d.temperature (
of ACPI_THERMAL(4) ) = 100C the FreeBSD shutdown automacally.

 Or downgrade to 8.x

On 8.x I get the same problem.

Thanks, see you.

Hi to all,

About this email subject, on acer Aspire 5634WLMi machine and
9.1-RELEASE OS, FreeBSD shutdown the machine automatically in few
minuts.

How can I debug the reason of the problem ?

Re: How to know % of read file in cat?

2013-03-09 Thread Luís Fernando Schultz Xavier da Silveira
You might want to try the sysutils/pv port, which is a small
program that works like cat, but provides a progress bar.

 Hello,

I use cat to read a file and pass it to another app, the command is this:

 camibar% cat file.git | fossil import --git file.fossil

It takes a lot of time, file.git is 12GB, and i want to know if there's some
'magic' trick can I use to show me how many bytes or the % of the file.git
cat sent to the other app.

Maybe cat isn't the correct tool?

 Thanks.

For laptops, you usually load a kernel module for interfacing
with the specific ACPI functions, like acpi_ibm.ko. There are
several others, but see man acpi_ibm for some impressions.

Yes, but I have an acer Aspire 5634WLMi, and:

% ls /boot/kernel/acpi*
/boot/kernel/acpi_asus.ko /boot/kernel/acpi_panasonic.ko
/boot/kernel/acpi_asus.ko.symbols
/boot/kernel/acpi_panasonic.ko.symbols
/boot/kernel/acpi_dock.ko /boot/kernel/acpi_sony.ko
/boot/kernel/acpi_dock.ko.symbols
/boot/kernel/acpi_sony.ko.symbols
/boot/kernel/acpi_fujitsu.ko/boot/kernel/acpi_toshiba.ko
/boot/kernel/acpi_fujitsu.ko.symbols
/boot/kernel/acpi_toshiba.ko.symbols
/boot/kernel/acpi_hp.ko /boot/kernel/acpi_video.ko
/boot/kernel/acpi_hp.ko.symbols
/boot/kernel/acpi_video.ko.symbols
/boot/kernel/acpi_ibm.ko/boot/kernel/acpi_wmi.ko
/boot/kernel/acpi_ibm.ko.symbols/boot/kernel/acpi_wmi.ko.symbols

I don't have an acer kernel module for ACPI.

First of all, ensure that your ports tree is up to date.

My default port tree on current installation of FreeBSD is the default
IMG image of 9.1-RELEASE.

I update port tree and work fine.

How can I mount it ?

I'm confused between the BSD disklabel and DOS/MBR partition map.

 What does (running from Linux)

fdisk -lu /dev/sdb (or whatever the Linux name for that disk is) show?
  ^^

  I'll run that command line from a GNU/Linux ( not from FreeBSD ) ?

How do you mount that Linux ext3fs partition in Linux? That knowledge
might help me figure how to mount that partition from FreeBSD.

I don't probe it. /dev/da1 is a USB pen drive with GNU/Linux OS.

Well, I wait to confirm that command ...

Thanks, see you.

Looks like a permissions problem on the fetchmail config file,
/usr/local/etc/fetchmailrc. What do you get when you run

  $ ls -l /usr/local/etc/fetchmail*

 ?

I have just freshly installed fetchmail on a new system, and I see this:

  -rw--- 1 fetchmail fetchmail 130 7 Sep 21:24 -
 /usr/local/etc/fetchmailrc
  -rw-r--r-- 1 fetchmail fetchmail 130 7 Sep 21:24 -
 /usr/local/etc/fetchmailrc.sample

If you see something different, try setting the permissions and ownership
 to
what you see here, or try reinstalling the port.

I don't have the /usr/local/etc/fetchmailrc because I use a user local file.

fetchmail in system-wide mode

2011-09-06 Thread Xavier FreeBSD questions
Hello,

On the Internet there are some sites where they say to start fetchmail(1) in
system-wide should put these two options in rc.conf(5) :

fetchmail_enable=YES
fetchmail_polling_interval=60

Although the second is optional and at first has little to do with this
question because this question is addressed rather to the first option.

I searched in /etc/defaults/rc.conf and rc.conf(5) manual and find no
reference to these two options.

I have them in my rc.conf(5) but fetchmail(1) does not start automatically.

In /usr/src/UPDATING not found any reference to it.

Which is the correct way to start fetchmail(1) in system-wide?

Is fetchmail installed on your system? If so, and you still can't get it
to
 start automatically, try this:

  # script fetchmail_startup sh -x /usr/local/etc/rc.d/fetchmail start

You'll now have a file called `fetchmail_startup' which will contain a
record of exactly what the fetchmail rc script did as it executed, which
may
 or may not prove informative.

Re: gcc cross-compiler for linux

2008-11-25 Thread Xavier Otazu

Lowell,

Thanks a lot for this link. Now I see that I need to use the
cross-gcc compiler.

I am using Matlab inside the linux emulator, and I nedd to create some
mex files from matlab. In order to create these mes files, matlab
needs access to a gcc compiler that produces linux elf files. I think I
cannot use the gentoo-stage3 port, because in order to use I would need
to chroot and it is not so easy from matlab. Also, when using this
compiler I should be able to acces to the linux-matlab header files,
but if I chroot to the gentoo port I won't be able to access them.

I tried to install the devel/cross-gcc port, but I get errors when
compiling it.

I have some doubts about the wiki link you sent me:

1) What really means null-mount the home directory? I google-d some
info, but I didn't find good information. What really exactly means
corresponding entries in the passwd and shadow files are required
then?

2) What really means All you have to do is to compile the ports and
add includes and libs from the linux system your target in your
development? Do I have to include the linux headers during
devel/cross-gcc port building? Or do I have to include them when
cross-compiling my code?

What options do I have to use when building the linux gcc
cross-compiler? I use

make TGTARCH=i386 TGTABI=linux install clean

Thanks a lot for your help

Cheers

gcc cross-compiler for linux

2008-11-24 Thread Xavier Otazu

Hello,

I would like to compile a C++ code to be executed within the linux
emulator.

I tried to install the cross-gcc port, but when building I always receive the
same
compilation error related to gthreads.

I use the following options when compiling the cross-gcc port:

make TGTARCH=i386 TGTABI=linux install clean

I also tried several combinations like i386-pc and linux-gnu.

you did restore as root? (i think so but just for sure)

it is something wrong with restore then, i used it many times and it
restore everything.

anyway - rsync is good tool to make exact copy of directory tree

Actually yes, I did restore as root. All ownership info and permissions
are reset during restore, and none of the original permissions are
back. This kind of weird since the OS drive hasn't changed. So, there
are the same users setup on the system. Any thoughts?

vmware3 does not recognize hard disk raw device

2006-11-16 Thread Xavier Otazu

Hello:

I've installed vmware3 on freebsd 6.0 from fresh ports.

When configuring a new virtual machine, it tells me that all
the /dev/hd? devices (i.e. /compat/linux/devhd?) are not read/write.

I made a soft link from this device (in /compat/linux/dev/hda)
to /dev/ad0. Then it recognizes read/write acces. But when powering on
the machine it tells me that it is not a raw device and it does not
boot.

I have

crw-r- 1 root operator0, 86 Nov 13 12:02 /dev/ad0

and

lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 8 Nov 9 21:21 /compat/linux/dev/hda@
- /dev/ad0

The original hda device created by the port is

brwxrwxrwx 1 root wheel0, 0x00010002 Jun 12
21:12 /compat/linux/dev/hda_orig*

I tried to create it using the minor and major characters 0 and 86, as
in /dev/ad0, but it do not produce a working device.

I have linux, aio, acpi and linprocfs modules loaded.

The /dev/ad0 disk I wan to boot in vmware is different from the one in
which FreeBSD is installed (/dev/ad3)

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

mplayer and vlc. Using Opera or firefox also seems to have a strange
effect where the mouse pointer freezes while pages load, and if there
is an animated gif on the page the cpu usage goes to 100%.

The jabber client Gajim also makes the cpu get stuck at 100%. When I
used gnome, nautilus did the same thing until i stopped and started the

tip from the handbook but it had no effect.

 hint.apic.0.disabled=1 in /boot/loader.conf

This happens with the generic kernel and the one i compiled for myself.
It also lasts for a random amount of time, sometimes it is barely
noticeable and sometimes it happens for over a second. Running
neverwinter nights makes the system pause for 10-20 seconds seemingly
 randomly.

My system behaves much better than that, I've no mouse freeze and no
system pauses, but I did have occasonial sound skips using 4bsd on 6.1.
Switching to the ULE scheduler seems to fix this problem, but other
things may behave worse.
One year ago, it was actually the opposite, sound in ULE was really
jerky, and mouse pointer too while eg launching an app.
Did you already try both schedulers ?

RE: freebsd.org mailing list memberships reminder

2006-02-23 Thread Xavier Castll

Hello FreeBSD gurus:

I am trying to install FreeBSD 6.0 in the following configuration:

SuperMicro X6DH8-G
Chassis compatible with board
2 Gigabite of Memory
Adaptec RAID 2010S with 3 SCSI hot-swapable Ultra 320 73 GB drives from
Hitachi (IBM)

The problem I am having is that after the three disk have been inerted and
FreeBSD is booting for the first time, the installation stops in the
following section:

md0: Preloaded image /mfsroot 4423680 bytes at 0xc03070c

And it doesn't go any further.

The same thing happens if I try to boot with the ISO bootable cd.

Could you guys please shed some light in this problem as Supermicro support
says they do not support FreeBSD and we need the OS to work for a very
important application?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Xavier

kern.mxdsiz option and ld-elf incompatibility

2005-12-22 Thread Xavier Otazu

Hello:

I am a newbie in FreeBSD. For the last days I am installing
FreeBSD 6.0 and the usual tools I use in Linux. I installed 'wine' and
it worked perfectly, but a problem appeared when changing a kernel boot
option.

I defined ' kern.maxdsiz=1500M ' in the /boot/loader.conf
file in order to enlarge available data for my programs. My computer
has 750Mb physical RAM and 1521Mb swap space. When defining high
amounts of datasize using this kernel option, wine complains with a
/libexec/ld-elf.so.1 not found. But when defining moderated amounts
of datasize, for example kern.maxdsiz=700M, it works fine.

Is it a kernel bug, or do I have to tweak some other kernel
options?

Thanks in advance

cp fails copying file from ext2 partition

2005-09-13 Thread Chantry Xavier
Hi,

I've an external usb hard drive using ext2 filesystem, mounted in /mnt/usb
(/dev/da0s1 on /mnt/usb (ext2fs, local)).
I can't copy any non empty files from the ext2 partition to somewhere else (the
ext2 partition itself or my local freebsd filesystem).
# cd /mnt/usb
# echo foo file
# cp file file2
cp: file: Invalid argument

cp creates an empty file2 instead of a file containing foo.
If the source file is empty, cp creates an empty target file without displaying
any errors.

I tried with another ext2 partition I had on a local hard disk, it failed the
same way.

Note that mv works just fine, so as a workaround, I can move the file to my
local hard disk, then copy it again to the ext2 partition.
midnight commander works just fine too, I guess it isnt using cp directly,
maybe cpio.

Output of uname -a :
FreeBSD mybox.maison 6.0-BETA4 FreeBSD 6.0-BETA4 #3: Sun Sep 11 18:01:53 CEST
2005 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/MYKERNEL i386

Handspring Treo 600 support on -CURRENT ?

2005-06-13 Thread Xavier Maillard
Hello,

This may be off-topic here, dunno, if so please redirect me on
the correct list.

So, I just bought a Treo 600 smartphone and I would like to sync
my data on my FreeBSD (-CURRENT up to date).

I have added support for devices uvisor and ucom but, whenever I
do a 'Hotsync' nothing happens on the system except messages like
this:

Jun 14 00:21:55 totoz kernel: ucom0: Palm, Inc. Palm Handheld, rev 1.00/1.00,
addr 2

and here is what usbdevs -v returns:

Controller /dev/usb1:
addr 1: full speed, self powered, config 1, UHCI root hub(0x),
Intel(0x), rev 1.00
 port 1 powered
port 2 addr 2: full speed, self powered, config 1, Palm Handheld(0x0300),
Palm, Inc.(0x082d), rev 1.00

Nothing is created under /dev.

Any hint, greatly appreciated ;)

My best bet on this issue is to list this by inode -i.e. ls -i

This is usually how I deal with such entries.

Hope that helps.

Troubleshooting USB printer detection

2003-06-15 Thread Xavier de Labouret
Hello,

My USB printer, an HP Photosmart P1115, is desperately seen by FreeBSD
as a ugen device, i can't get it to be seen as an ulpt device. Any help
would be much appreciated, i have been trying various tricks without
success. And my wife will only shift from Linux if she can print on
FreeBSD, which is a good motivation :).

My kernel is stock 4.8-STABLE, it has in particular the following
options for USB:

 # USB support
 options USB_DEBUG
 device uhci# UHCI PCI-USB interface
 device ohci# OHCI PCI-USB interface
device usb # USB Bus (required)
 device ugen# Generic
 device uhid# Human Interface Devices
 device ukbd# Keyboard
 device ulpt# Printer

Here are my USB devices, my printer is seen

 drakkar# usbdevs
addr 1: UHCI root hub, VIA
addr 2: Standard USB Hub, Atmel
   addr 3: product 0x08b0, Logitech
   addr 4: photosmart 1115, hp # Yes!
... but unfortunately as as ugen:

 drakkar# dmesg | grep ugen
 ugen0: Logitech product 0x08b0, rev 1.10/0.00, addr 3
 ugen1: hp photosmart 1115, rev 1.10/1.00, addr 4# Sigh
I went further, and installed udesc_dump:

 drakkar# udesc_dump /dev/ugen1

...now i am puzzled, because for what i know, the interface
Class/SubClass/Protocol for my printer should be enough to be matched by
ulpt.c:

   bInterfaceClass07
   bInterfaceSubClass 01
   bInterfaceProtocol 03
My kernel is compiled with USB_DEBUG, and the following sysctl flags are
set on:

 hw.usb.debug=1
 hw.usb.ulpt.debug=1

...but nothing much showed up in /var/log/messages, as i would have
expected.

Oh, and usbd_enable=YES is set in my rc.conf.

So i am completely blocked. I found two other users blocked with USB
printers detection in the mailing lists. Have we all missed something?
Or have we all stumbled on the same bug in the USB layer?

Thank you in advance for any help,

Xavier de Labouret
