Hi Adrian,

I have just rebuilt my 11-current laptop and am using the newest updates to
the iwm(4) driver. Haven't yet connected to a WPA2 network, but so far, so
good connecting to the open cafe wifi :)

Thanks!
Ben

  Hi, Adrian.
  Thank you for your effort.
It works well. My PC does not have WiFi LED.

iwm updates from dfbsd; AR9462/QCA9565 bluetooth coex updates

2016-06-03 Thread Juan Ramón Molina Menor

hi!

Cool! Do you have a blinking LED for wifi? :)

No, this laptop has only three on/off leds and none for the Wi-Fi.

I’ve make another crude test to compare iwm performance under FreeBSD
and Windows 10: I often extend domestic Wi-Fi range with a second router
connected to the first one through an Ethernet cable. This allows me to
work in the garden with Windows 10 at about 15 meters from the router
with a decent wireless throughput. With FreeBSD, I’d say that wireless
stability is not enough over 10 meters. Nevertheless, as with Windows
10, if I lose the connection I can move around and find a good spot and
in seconds the connection comes back again without intervention on my side.

That said, this card is less performant in Windows than the Intel PRO
(iwn) which comes with an older HP 6730b laptop: lesser SSIDs are found
and it seems more difficult to keep connected with weaker ones. An even
older Marvell PCI (malo) works almost better… So big kudos to FreeBSD
devs for getting that card behave so nicely!

Best regards,
Juan

Hi Adrian and thanks again for your work.

My user profile is not very interesting, since I’m not using my FreeBSD
laptop outside home and not very intensively (i.e. no roaming, no heavy
network use), but I’ve been nevertheless using iwm with a 7260 since day
one without issues. I’ve just rebuilt the kernel with your changes and
made some quick tests: pkg upgrade, ssh sessions over the local network,
downloaded a few big files over HTTP and FTP… all without seeing a
difference.

By the way:
iwm0: mem 0xf050-0xf0501fff at
device 0.0 on pci3

If you can suggest some specific tests you’d like to see done, I’m
willing to help.

Best regards,
Juan

iwm updates from dfbsd; AR9462/QCA9565 bluetooth coex updates

2016-06-02 Thread Adrian Chadd
hi!

Firstly - I've just merged in some fixes from dragonflybsd via the
maintainer there, Imre Vadasz. He's been pushing patches to me against
-HEAD to commit. Thanks!

I'd like those tested, so if you're using iwm please test them out and
let me know.

Secondly - I've done some initial work to bring up bluetooth
coexistence in a slightly more develop-able way on the AR9462/QCA9565
parts. To use it, you need to set the hint 'ath.0.btcoex_profile' to
your NIC - AR9462 is 'wb222', and QCA9565 is 'wb335'. This has to be
done before the driver is loaded and it'll log that it's enabling
BTCOEX.

It's not enough to do full coexistence, but it implements the hardware
handshake bits that allow us to implement more complete coexistence
later.

Third - I'd like to commit the new ath3kfw tool sometime in the next
couple of days to -HEAD. I'd like some more testing first -
github.com/erikarn/ath3k/

Last - I broke IBSS/Adhoc again. Andriy pointed it out to me. We'll go
figure out what to do there to fix it in the future and try to land
that before the tree freezes.

Thanks!
