[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #16440] Voteinfo bar is too long at the right of the screen

2010-08-21 Thread pepeto

Follow-up Comment #6, bug #16440 (project freeciv):

Is this the right condition? I'd have thought you wanted to
split the bar if Arrange widgets for small displays is set but
Merge isn't set (because the chat window ends up taller and
narrower) -- from your recent changes I'm guessing this is the
configuration you're optimising for -- but not if Arrange
widgets for small displays isn't set (that just wastes vertical
 space).

Oops, you are right. I probably made a mistake there.

Anyway, I can't get the voteinfo bar to display at all whenever
I have Merge the message notebook and the map notebook set
(with or without this change). Am I missing something, or is
 that a(nother) bug?

It seems it's not created at all after a check. It's another bug.

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #16501] Rework team slots

2010-08-21 Thread pepeto

Update of bug #16501 (project freeciv):

Severity: 2 - Minor = 3 - Normal
Priority: 3 - Low = 5 - Normal
  Status:None = Ready For Test
 Assigned to:None = pepeto
Summary: Gtk client doesn't find any empty team = Rework
team slots

___

Follow-up Comment #1:

Trying to fix the bug initially reported, I have met several related bugs.
Already, there were some other related bugs corrected in bug #16485. I am
attaching a patch which fix several issues, but I cannot really split it.

Bug fixes:
* The name loaded from rulesets were never sent to the server for empty teams
(quite random).
* The name loaded from rulesets were mixed with default ones, so the number
of defined names were variable.
* The translation of the team names were inconsistent: it was using _() on
some strings created by a format (random results).
* The translation of the team names were not removed a potential qualifier.
* The empty team was not found by the gtk client.
* team_by_number() would crash instead of returning NULL when handling wrong
numbers.

Features:
* Added a team_slot object.
* Harmonize team and team slot name accessor functions with the other
structure in freeciv (*_rule_name and *_name_translation couples).
* Enforce the OOP style.

There are other related bugs, that I will raise in different items.

BTW, is there something similar to this help for city production?
Right clicking on an item in the production dropdown menu not only gives no

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #16380] Generated files are not deleted by 'make distclean'

2010-08-21 Thread David Lowe

Follow-up Comment #3, bug #16380 (project freeciv):

I beg to differ: if i look at the file titled 'INSTALL' that comes with every
GNU package i've unpacked, i see the following beginning at line 62:

To also remove the
files that `configure' created (so you can compile the package for
a different kind of computer), type `make distclean'. There is
also a `make maintainer-clean' target, but that is intended mainly
for the package's developers. If you use it, you may have to get
all sorts of other programs in order to regenerate files that came
 with the distribution.

As i read it, no ordinary user should ever have to type `make
maintainer-clean'. That is reinforced by the fact special tools would be
needed to repair the damage. Thus, it seems likely that 'make distclean'
should delete client/packhand_gen.c and any similar files. Is python truly
needed for this? It seems a simple shell script could rm *_gen* in the build
directories. Elsewise, i think python would still be needed to carry out the
task for the `make maintainer-clean' target...

Since GNU seems to be at odds with itself [and we aren't officially a GNU
project, anyway], maybe we should look past the letter of the law at the
intent. I submit that when somebody types 'make distclean' they intend to
restore the project back the way it was before they initially typed
'./configure'. It would be best if we could find a [preferably low impact]
way to make something like happen.

@Anonymous: This project has not yet offered an SDL build for Mac. Did you
get it from somebody else, or did you build this yourself? In a normal build
you would have both SDL and Gtk2 clients, assuming that configure was
satisfied that you have the prerequisites for each. In any case, the Gtk2
client is seen by many users to be more feature-rich. I personally recommend
it. If you want to build GTK, you can check out my [not yet complete]
walkthrough at

and the useful stuff starts at the beginning of July.

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #16506] Non-military units belonging to a class without the ZOC class flag have a ZOC

2010-08-21 Thread David Lowe

Follow-up Comment #4, bug #16506 (project freeciv):

Changelog line # 32770 [r12583] and units.ruleset line #80. Now that i'm
looking at it closer, i see that i had it wrong: Added unit class flag ZOC
for units that are subject to Zone Of Control rules. So yeah, any unit that
doesn't specify that flag should theoretically already ignore zones of
control?

But now i see that we don't have a way to flag a unit to not emit a ZOC.
Perhaps that should be the subject of this bug?

Follow-up Comment #5, bug #16506 (project freeciv):

Oh, I didn't understand this like this. But it sounds like you are right. So
this wouldn't be a bug, but a missing feature.

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #16506] Non-military units belonging to a class without the ZOC class flag have a ZOC

2010-08-21 Thread George Koehler

Follow-up Comment #6, bug #16506 (project freeciv):

The default units.ruleset explains ZOC unit class flag:

; ZOC = Unit is subject to ZOC rules. Unit type flag IgZOC can
; override this

And IgZOC unit flag:

; IgZOC = ignore Zones of Control (ZOC) even if unit class has ZOC
flag

ChangeLog has:

Added unit class flag ZOC for units that are subject to Zone Of Control
rules. Previously this was hardcoded to LAND_MOVING. Unit type flag IgZOC
may override this.

Yet i can clearly recall times when an enemy Explorer has blocked movement
of my Warriors.

This is correct. Explorers have ZOC and IgZOC under the default ruleset.
Explorers can impose zones of control, but Explorers ignore zones of control
imposed by other units.

Under the custom ruleset by Anonymous, Explorers should not impose zones of
control.

It turns out that NonMil merely means a unit doesn't acquire veteranship
the normal way.

NonMil units will not impose martial law and will not cause unhappiness.
NonMil units can acquire veteranship by the normal way
(veteran_raise_chance, veteran_work_raise_chance and Veteran_Build).

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #16506] Non-military units belonging to a class without the ZOC class flag have a ZOC

Follow-up Comment #7, bug #16506 (project freeciv):

Under the custom ruleset by Anonymous, Explorers should not
 impose zones of control.

I don't think so. Unit is subject to ZOC rules means that the unit should
respect the ZOC, not it imposes a ZOC, imho.

It turns out that NonMil merely means a unit doesn't acquire
 veteranship the normal way.

NonMil units will not impose martial law and will not cause
unhappiness. NonMil units can acquire veteranship by the
 normal way (veteran_raise_chance, veteran_work_raise_chance and
 Veteran_Build).

They also can move to peaceful territories, but the documentation is
lacking.

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #16506] Non-military units belonging to a class without the ZOC class flag have a ZOC

2010-08-21 Thread David Fernandez

Follow-up Comment #8, bug #16506 (project freeciv):

I also expected that a unit class without ZOC flag would not impose zone of
control, that is why I confirmed the bug.
It seems it is not a bug, we just missunderstood the purpose of the flag.

2010-08-21 Thread J.M. Maalderink

Follow-up Comment #3, patch #1250 (project freeciv):

I added some cities and ruler titles and also St. Paul as a leader.

Perhaps the best idea would be just to throw out Justinian, Leo and Said
until somebody can give their Maltese names?
