[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #17020] IPv6: Improve connecting to dual-stack system

2010-11-04 Thread anonymous

Follow-up Comment #2, bug #17020 (project freeciv):

Hey Jacob,

no, haven't seen that patch yet. To be honest, the patch I submitted is just
something I whipped up while waiting for the other player. If I find some
time this weekend I'll take a look and possibly follow up on that other
patch. Something's gotta change, though – "net_lookup_service" is nowhere
near the current state of the art ;)

Regards,
—octo

Oh hurrah; I've been meaning to look into this for a while. What did you use
as your reference for settlement names -- kw.wikipedia.org

I'm wondering if the city order could also be improved, but I don't have any
specific suggestions yet.

Sure. In this case, it was in preparation for the manual
de-fuzzification immediately following it. In general, when doing mass
operations on po files, it's helpful for them all to match (and it also
makes the diffs in svn cleaner).

I've responded to comments on the desirability of _that_ practice of
mine in the separate thread on -i18n. If we decide that manual defuzz
isn't worth the pain, then it becomes irrelevant.

Since I knew at least days in advance that I planned to do this, I could
have done better by proposing it on -i18n and inviting comment (rather
than just in a ticket comment on -dev). Sorry about that.

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #17022] Assertions failed in Freeciv 2.2.3

2010-11-04 Thread Jacob Nevins

Follow-up Comment #1, bug #17022 (project freeciv):

It's going to be hard to debug any of these without save files; do you have
any?

Is this with the default ruleset?

There are four separate assertion failures seen various numbers of times in
the log:

freeciv-server: unittools.c:546: total_activity_targeted: Assertion `!(tgt ==
S_LAST && base == -1)' failed.

Argh, I'm surprised to see this reported against 2.2.3 -- there was a bug
causing this assertion to fail in 2.2.2 (bug #16100), but that one was fixed
in 2.2.3.

No idea about the other three:

freeciv-server: mapgen.c:1401: map_fractal_generate: Assertion `0' failed.
freeciv-server: aitools.c:851: ai_unit_new_role: Assertion
`!unit_has_orders(punit) || task == AIUNIT_NONE' failed.
freeciv-server: caravan.c:339: wonder_benefit: Assertion `costwithout >=
costwith' failed.

2010-11-04 Thread Jacob Nevins

Follow-up Comment #1, bug #17020 (project freeciv):

Without having opened your patch yet: are you aware of the pending patch in
bug #15559 (which should be applied soon)? That reworks IPv6 handling
considerably; I don't know if it overlaps with yours (or solves the same
problem).

Details:

Hello,

I'm getting quite a few assertions failed on the server in Freeciv 2.2.3.
This is from a Freeciv 2.2.3 public server hosted on meta.freeciv.org. These
servers are standard Freeciv 2.2.3 running public games. I also get these
same crashes on my modified servers running on www.freeciv.net. I have
attached the log-file showing the assertions.

It would be really great if these failed assertions would be fixed, since
they can terminate the running games, and thus frustrate players.

Thanks!

Andreas Rosdal

Update of patch #2180 (project freeciv):

  Status:None => Need Info

Follow-up Comment #1:

Attached ruleset contains a lot of typos, some fatal. The server won't start
with this ruleset.

It is based on an older revision of the Polish ruleset - compare the latest
S2_3 or trunk revision and update accordingly.

Also, please avoid using tabs for formatting.

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #17020] IPv6: Improve connecting to dual-stack system

Details:

I ran into a problem when setting up a game with two machines, both having
IPv6 connectivity: Both, server and client have global, public IPv6 addresses
and are able to connect to the internet via IPv6. For some reason (totally
unrelated), the server only bound to the IPv4 any-address. When trying to
connect to the host name, the IPv6 address was returned and tried, but no
connection could be made. Instead of trying the IPv4 address which was
returned as well, the client simply gave up and reported "connection
refused".

The attached patch implements the expected behavior: It iterates over all
addresses returned by getaddrinfo(3) and tries to establish a connection. If
connecting to an address fails, it continues with the next returned address.
This is the default behavior under UNIX and has the huge benefit of "working
just like any other program". For example, whether IPv4 or IPv6 is preferred
is controlled via the "/etc/gai.conf" configuration file and if a domain name
resolves to multiple addresses they will be tried in a pseudo-random
(round-robin) fashion.

In all likelihood this patch has some flaws. For example, I'm not 100%
certain if and where the file descriptor gets closed. Also, it is possible
that under Windows includes or defines are missing.

Best regards,
—octo
