I'd suggest rather than building your own from scratch, that you use Andris Pavenis's RPM files. They work just about perfectly, and contain a patch for the linker specfile without which your toolchain will work until you try and link a C++ program :) You can find the RPMs - both source and binary - at DJ Delorie's FTP site ftp://ftp.delorie.com/djgpp/rpms for the last official released version, which is 4.1.0. As of just yesterday, you can also get 4.1.2 from Andris Pavenis's site, which is http://ap1.pp.fi/djgpp/gcc/4.1.2/gcc412.html but note that this has had very little testing. If you are running a distro other than Red Hat you may have better luck rebuilding from the source RPM - my SuSE system had slightly different paths for some things which were hard-coded. I posted a patch to the source RPMs to deal with this just a few minutes ago, on the djgpp-workers list: http://www.delorie.com/djgpp/mail-archives/browse.cgi?p=djgpp-workers/2007/03/19/11:30:16 I haven't tried applying that patch to Andris's 4.1.2 stuff yet though. I would also strongly recommend using the very latest binutils, 2.17 - when I tried to use 2.16.1 I was running into this: http://sources.redhat.com/ml/binutils/2005-03/msg00180.html I'm currently in the process of building ZIP packages of 2.17 for DJGPP. - Take Surveys. [Freedos-user] Odd behaviour with DOSLFN
I am using DOSLFN to run a program compiled with DJGPP. I have put both DOSLFN and my application on a bootable FreeDOS floppy disk, and I see some very strange behaviour. If I do not load DOSLFN, the program starts up fairly quickly. If I start DOSLFN, however, the floppy sits and grinds for an additional *two minutes* before the program starts up. I have tried all the available switches on DOSLFN, and the DOSLFNMS version, all to no avail. One thing which I have discovered is that if I disable write access in DOSLFN with the w- switch, I get a write access disallowed error, even though if I do not supply that switch I do not see any write accesses in the status page (but nearly four hundred read accesses). Has anyone else seen this? I'm at something of a loss for other things to try out, and I need to have LFN support for this application if I am to avoid a great lot of tedious renaming... Marcel E. Tschudin [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote on 09/23/2006 20:07:20 +0300: # 1) Which of the two VMs would be preferable for this application. I've personally had better luck with VMware, though VPC works okay. VPC is probably slightly more intuitive to use if you've never worked with a VM setup before (but neither is too difficult). VPC has a (to me) massively annoying bug which causes the keyboard to sometimes stop working in the VM if you have locked the host computer's screen. Neither of them has built-in drive sharing for DOS, so you'll have to set up network support à la LanMan to get to your host computer's drives. - Take Surveys. Earn Cash. So before I reply - please note that I think that HX is some pretty amazing software; none of this was meant to be a dig at it. Charles Sandmann is the author; while I will certainly agree that he hasn't done a whole lot with it in a while, I'm pretty sure that he does still maintain it. He's certainly still active on the DJGPP mailing list. I'll put some thought in this... I agree that there's certainly not any nice sort of answer. In other universes I'd propose symlinking CWSDPMI.EXE to HXDPMI.EXE, but without some changes to the command interpreter that's not happening... (Hey now, there's a proposal: what about support for DJGPP v2.04-style symlinks in COMMAND.COM?) But this discovery certainly surprised me, and I'm not sure that this is the right answer... though I'll admit that I won't claim to know off-hand what the right answer is... - Using Tomcat but need to do more?
