Can I install a dual 1.42 Processor card that came out of a MDD FW800
onto a non-FW800 logic board? inside a non-FW800 MDD Powermac? Jeff

Yes, you just have to match the system bus speed.

I had a Dual-1.0 GHz MDD (original, non-FireWire-800), which has a 167 MHz
system bus and now it's running a Dual-1.42 GHz (out of a FW800) without any
problems -- and without the need of modifications aside from the processor
card swap.

The only importaint thing is to use the correct heat sink, because the one
from the Dual-1.0 GHz doesn't have the capacity to offload enough heat, so you
definitely need the one from the Dual-1.42 GHz out of the FW800 it came with.

Cheers,
Andreas

Photo printing problem ?

Epson Artisan50
Adobe InDesign CS2

I recently purchased an Artisan50 Epson color printer,
Designed some holiday cards in InDesign
printed and the photos have vertical lines.
The Epson tech supporter offered patient guidance
leading me through some checks and finally to print from Preview
no lines there, which points to a glitch in the Adobe software.

While I can work-around,
I'm wondering if others have had such problems?
If experience of others confirms that updated Adobe products are more
widely compatible?
If others might recommend an equivalent alternative ti InDesign?

thank you
Cliff

www.adobe.com has a forum for InDesign. You might get additional
responses there.

I have Adobe CS2 Premium, upgraded to 2.3, which includes InDesign,
and have had no problems with a variety of printers. Have you
downloaded and installed the last available update, 4.0.5, that
addressed numerous problems?

Sorry to hear of your problems.

Adobe InDesign CS2 may have some bugs, however, I have not have had any
problems with the older InDesign CS on the professional level copier/printers I
use in production.

At the professional level the alternative is QuarkXpress. And unless you are a
dedicated Quark user most folks I know think InDesign is the best option for
the present.

At the office level there is MS Publisher which I think is a horror for print
shops that have to deal with those files. And there is no Mac version and no
way AFAIK to use a Publisher file on a Mac. MS really developed that one as
anti-Mac, anti-Adobe and ant-Quark.

At the level of doing personal stuff like greeting cards there may be other
less expensive options. I would like to know as well.

Another work around may be to simpley export the .Indd file to .pdf. If the
bug is in the Epson driver (which it may be) this may solve the problem.

Good luck --glen

I did the exact same thing. I managed to score a dual 1.42 GHz card
and heat sink for what was a single 1.25 GHz machine. All I did was
swap out the old, and install the new. Worked without issues the
very first time. Although, even with the correct heatsink, the fans do
run louder, but I've gotten used to it, so it doesn't bother much
anymore. And I don't know if the dual card came from a FW800 or FW400
box. I was just glad I had the 167 MHz bus speed so I didn't have to
mess with that.
And while I had the machine open, I cleaned it out, carefully, and
swapped one of the installed 120 GB HDD's for a 250GB drive and
(finally) upgraded to Leopard. I debated the worth of doing any
upgrading on a four year old {{C machine, but it has served me well,
and my current uses don't demand an Intel box, yet.

I would confirm the extport to pdf route is the best: I believe InDesign
(and Quark Xpress) are at best unhappy, and at worst downright
unco-operative when you print to a non-postsript device.
