In my experience (OSX 10.4.11): - most applications will go wherever you last saved a file with them - some will go to your "Document" folder by default - and a few (like Photoshop) will go where the opened file resides. IMHO the last behaviour is the best, but it's also the least common. AFAIK, there's no standard (global, system-centric) behaviour you can set. If this is troubling you, using a third-party tool (like DefaultFolderX) is advisable. OTOH, if you use just some recurrent saving places, putting them into the Finder's windows' sidebar might be easier and still useful. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. App developers violate the Apple guidelines often. It can be frustrating. Default Folder X is the best gizmo to fix the problem. File Handling
Where are the settings (if they;re even in one comprehensive place...) for how file saving and such is handled? Is it global or aplication-specific? Example: I open a program, call up a document or image to work on that is stored in a specific folder where it belongs. I change it some and want to save-as a new file... so I hit SAVE AS and the system opens up a drive path to somewhere-else completely and I have to wrangle the thing back to where I want it to go, usually the same path I got it form initially. I would think this is one of those remedial things I should know my now but it has me stymied.
