[Audyssey] Sonokids Accessible Sudoku for Kids.

2006-07-31 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Folks,
I found this new game designed for kids:
Accessible Sudoku.
Instead of a 9 by 9 grid this free on-line game has a 4 by 4 grid and uses 4
sounds in place of numbers.
You need the flash plug in and also need to unload JFW to play it.
You should start the game and then unload JFW then hit f5 to restart the
game.
This may be necessary since unloading JFW sometimes moves your focus from
the game.
It is fun and a great way to get into Sudoku.

[Audyssey] longest interactive fiction game???

2006-07-31 Thread Cary
hey all.
I'm looking for the longest interactive fiction game ever made. Does anyone
know what it is? If no one does, does anyone know of a really long IF game
that I could find? most of the IF games I play I can complete in like 3-4
hours. I'm looking for one that will take me at least 3-4 days to complete.
I completed most of the infocom games in 3-4 hours. I think the longest IF
game I played was worlds apart and that took me 6 hours to complete. Any
suggestions on longer IF games would be appreciated.

 Hi Cary,
I remember that Once and Future was a very long IF game.
 Another was Anchorhead.
And I thinkHoward Sherman's Malinche Entertainment, is doing some very
 long
 games, like:
The First Mile - Scarey from the Start
The game opens in a haunting atmosphere and becomes more and more chilling
as you explore Dead Rock, Arkansas.
You'll find almost unspeakable horrors on the floors of the elementary
 school,
find out what happened to the old pastor who stood against the sinister
 forces at work
and stumble on something unbelievable in one of the dank tunnels of the
 abandoned coal mine.
This game harbors a dozen different endings that can be discovered
 depending
entirely upon your ability to tap into your imagination.

Hi Mark,
Here is a couple of links for Mud sites:

http://www.randylaptop.com/mudding/

http://realms.game.org/

http://www.topmudsites.com/

You need a Mud client to connect to many Mud games. Here they are.

GMud32 is found at

http://gutterstar.net/id35.htm

or you can use Monkey Term found at

http://www.randylaptop.com/mudding/client.php

The second site is a real good resource for mudding.

[Audyssey] Muds was StarWars browsergame?

2006-07-31 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi, Mark.
First, you need a mud client, a program used to connect with and play
mud and mush games. Two of them I can think of is gmud and Monkey Term.
After that just google for muds. There is all kinds of them over the
net. Star Trek, Star Wars, triditional DND, general sci-fi, etc...
Once you find one you want give it a address, and port number to connect
to and you are in business.

Hi, Janet.
That is correct. usually you can only equip one weapon at a time unless
you use a weapon and shield combo.
As for the knight statues they are ranked easiest to hardest Fox, Wolf,
Stag, Serpant, Bear, Dragon, and Griffen.

Games we wouldn't like to play.
 Bizarre Foreign Children's games

 by Phil Vlasak
When game developers search for new game concepts do not use these as good
 examples.
 WHO'S THE MOST HANDSOME?
Milo is the most handsome gnu in the world. His mother tells him so
non-stop. He often asks himself what he's got that the others don't. So
 Milo
 decides
to take part in a beauty pageant for animals. The first prize is a trip to
Paris. But nothing is going as planned. In the crowd of candidates, Milo
 feels
a little alone. And no longer so handsome. Suddenly, he sees a little
 penguin with his young refrigerator.
 A drama is at hand.

GO ON! DON'T GIVE UP, SLUG!
From all appearances, there is a shell; it's a slug and a snail. However,
how about if we trace the slug's ancestors?
A game with a unique viewpoint of
 a slug.

 BUD AND THE NAMELESS POTATO
One day, after school, Bud finds a strange potato on the table. Bud runs
after the potato and falls into a fantastic world swept away by a huge
 vortex.
Bud wants to know the name of the potato but it doesn't have any name. And
so Bud begins to travel with the nameless potato in search of its lost
 name
 all around the world.

THE BROTHER EGGSHELL CHICK STILL WANTS TO PUT ON ITS SHELL
Big Brother Egg is the eldest of the pack. While all of his younger
 brother
and sisters have already turned into baby chicks, Big Brother Egg does not
want to hatch. He wants to stay in his eggshell forever. But it's high
 time
that he grew out of his shell. . . .
You will be amazed by how many times it takes to break the shell by
 hitting
 the up arrow key.

 THE CAT AND THE CLARINETIST
A heartwarming fantasy full of clarinet sounds! What is best ever for me
is a life with cat. One evening there came a cat. She loved the sound of
my clarinet. As listening to my tone, she got bigger and bigger, first
larger than bed, then larger than house! You will be fulfilled with joy by
 the growing
 cat as you play on.

 WHERE IS MY LEOPARD-DOTS PANTY?
Oh my! My leopard-dots panty is gone! It was in my drawer! a kid shouts
 in
his room, and from here the colorful game begins. First, it's a baby lion
who puts the panty on his head to be like his father. Then it's a thick
 and
large snake who takes a nap in the panty hanging down. Up next is a
 flamingo.
Wow! She is wearing the panty as a necklace for her wedding. Then a baby
otter wears it like a swimming glass. Very hilarious!

 PUPPY POO
You play a lump of Puppy Poo forsaken at the corner of an alley. Everyone
avoids you saying Dirty Poo! One drizzling spring day, Puppy Poo meets a
 young dandelion plant
who needs fertilization. Puppy Poo joyfully breaks itself down and soaks
into the root of dandelion. This self-sacrifice finally blooms a dandelion
 bud
 into its full glory.
 A moving and lessonful game.

A GIRL BORN WITH A SOUND OF FART
In the island far south, a baby was born with a sound of fart. She grew up
to be a nice girl and her great fart would often save people from wild
 animals.
Then she was asked to save people from the monster that comes for babies
when the moon is full. On a full moon night, she set out for the sea to
 face
 the
monster, with her powerful fart her only leverage.

 THE TOILET EXPRESS
Rubbing his sleepy eyes a little boy gets up to pee. But he bumps into the
toilet that was on his way to an excursion. The toilet says he was late
 already
and could not help him! The chase starts. The boy follows the toilet to
 the
station and jumps on the Toilet Express. Dynamic game with that familiar
feeling of holding to go and the relief that follows is humorously
 described.

 AREN'T THEY ALL DRUNKEN?
Children always ask adults Why? and one of the most frequently asked
why? is Why do they drink? This question leads to other questions like
 Why
do their faces turn red? Why do they keep on saying the same thing?
 What
happens in their body when they drink? Why they come to themselves after
some hours? No one can readily answer these questions, so in this game,
let's play with the mystery of alcohol!

Hi Folks,

A couple of weeks ago there were two major events concerning game
accessibility. The first was at this years ICCHP convention in Linz
(Austria), where several (academic) projects, including AGRIP Audio Quake
and Universally Accessible Space Invaders, were presented in a 2 hour
session. Matthew Atkinson of AGRIP gave a presentation about his theories
and findings in the AudioQuake project. Guidelines for game accessibility
were also presented here. These are one of the first sets of guidelines
currently under development (in this case these resemble the style and
format of W3C's WAI-CAG guidelines for web accessibility). I personally
think there's a lot wrong with the proposed guidelines so I look forward
to the other ones currently under development. I suggest you all have a
look for yourselves here: http://gameaccess.medialt.no/guide.php and see
how people are out there trying to define how the industry should make
more accessible games. I'm interested in what you, the tar
get group for these guidelines, think about them...

The other major event was Develop Brighton in (where else) Brighton
(England), where the IGDA Game Accessibility Special Group held a full-day
tutorial with presentations and hands-on gaming events. Among the
participants were Michelle Hinn (IGDA), Thomas Westin and Goran Lange
(PinInteractive), Dimitris Grammenos and Giannis Georgalis (Universally
Accessible Space Invaders), Barrie Ellis (OneSwitch.org.uk), yours truly
(AudioGames.net / Accessibility.nl) and Eelke Folmer (Ass. Professor and
more . Michelle talked about the field of game accessibility, I held a
general presentation on audio games and blind accessible game design,
Thomas Westin showed some nifty things with games controlled with your
mental abilities (using brainwaves), Goran talked about the future of
accessible educational games, and Dimitris and Giannis shared their
experiences and possible future steps in the Universally Accessible Games
project. And to end with a bang, Eelke showed some new insights to ac
cessible game design (also in relation with usability design) and also
possible guidelines (although in a usability format this time).

In the audience was none other than game veteran Ernest Adams himself.
Ernest is about to publish his new book (http://tinyurl.com/h9b26) which
will feature an appendix on (more) accessible game design.

One newsitem I am very proud to announce is that of the GDC Accessibility
Idols. The Game Developers Conference (GDC) is the biggest game design
related conference in the world (and no, the E3 is a consumer expo where
all new and future games are on display - the E3 is where publishers go to
sell their games (and designers go to get drunk, and the GDC is where
designers go to get serious about their design (and eventually get drunk
as well).
The IGDA GA-SIG (www.igda.org/accessibility) has managed to set up an
amazing event for next years GDC and it is called Accessibility Idols.
For this event, very famous game designers are asked to design an
accessible game. The games will then be presented before a huge crowd and
judged by an expert panel. Although I can''t really name any names yet,
rumour has it that none other than Ernest Adams (see above) and Keita
Takahashi (the creator of Katamari Damacy) might be amongst the designers
to take on the challenge. Also see this month's issue of E-Access

Re: [Audyssey] Space Invaders?

2006-07-31 Thread MissWings
I used to use it at school in typing class... I used to play the old Eman
games on a friend's computer from a floppy. Those games were neat ... I
wish someone would convert them over to Windows one of these days.

I didn't know there was a space invaders game ... has it been released
yet? I wouldn't mind trying it ... I used to play it off of a floppy disc
that had a bunch of other games on it. I think there were a couple of
typing games and some others, but I can't remember which ones at the
  moment.

I think Wings is referring to the Japanese space invaders game, unless
Universally accessible space invaders is a new one.

There are several space invaders based games out there troopinum 2 and
 alien
outback to name just 2. However the classic sounds have been modernized a
wee bit and each game has its own off the wall sort a theme but the
 concept
 is the same.
