Yes, Clue would not work out unless it was like an over the Internet type game.
Much like many card games because you would not want all players hearing all

Re: [Audyssey] Hello

2007-06-03 Thread Dark
Hi Jim.

These days, my usual reaction to coming up against something I don't know
about is to go and look it up on Wikipedia.

While I've heard of Parcheesy in various books, films etc, I don't really
know about the game and certainly haven't played it, - another Us vs Uk
thing I think. So, here's the wikipedia artical, which did tell me a bit
about the rules and history of the game:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parcheesi

There also seem to be external links knocking around on the page as well, so
I might check those out.

as to looking around the board, if the squares were numbered 1-68, and each
players pieces were marked A to D, then the usual style short cut scanning
keys and a bit of logic might hopefully be enough.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

The basic jist of it is that BSC got into a disagreement with the folks
 they
were working with on the game. Apparently at issue was who was going to
license the game when it came out, or who would market it or something or
other. I don't remember exactly but Justin scrapped the idea and we've
 heard
nothing about any new titles since. Granted he did say they were working
 on
a new title after CQ was scrapped, but the name of the game and even a
brief, general psynopsis were not forthcoming. All that was nearly two
 years
ago. I'm sorry to say this but I've rather lost interest in BSC since that
whole incident, since it wasn't the first time a title had been scrapped.
First it was BSC football, which actually stood a chance of getting me
interested in the sport, then CQ and, on top of that, The Void was also
scrapped, and at the same time as CQ. Of course The Void sounded to me
 like
a modified Troopanum, so I don't know how interested I'd have been if it
 had
 come out.

Hi Mike and Bryan,
I've personally been in contact with Justin off and on over the past
year or so, and I know his daytime job has been working him pretty hard.
Frankly, Justin has had little time to work directly on BSC stuff. So
keep that in mind before putting BSC down.
Second, games are really nothing more than ideas and design documents
until they have been programmed. However, programming that idea into a
good game can be difficult, and things can and will go wrong. Sometimes
the game should be canceled for one of several reasons.
In Justin's case with Castle Quest there was good reason to cancel.
Justin had a great idea, but didnt have the time or skills to design it
himself. So he outsourced it to another dev who worked on it for a
while, and dropped out. Since the other developer was the licensed
holder of the source and quit Justin couldn't get the source code. To
start over would allow Justin to begin the project from scratch, and
have to learn all the things he didn't know, at the same time keep a
heavy workload during his daytime job, and still have a family life. He
couldn't do it, and so CQ bit the dust.
I am suspecting work and family is the reason Void and BSC Football were
canceled as well.

Yeah, there have been many good board games that could be made
accessible. Many of my favorites no longer appear on the store shelves.
One of the cooler games that was out about 15 years ago was a Batman
board game. You spun a wheel shaped like a bat and traveled around the
board. you picked up mission cards, and got to move to certain places on
the board like the bat cave, bank, Wane Manner, etc. I don't remember it
all completely, but I do remember being able to battle the Joker,
Riddler, Mr. Freeze, etc based on the mission card, and aposing players.

2007-06-03 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Jason,
I don't have my Vista computer right in front of me, but I recall you
change it back the same way as XP.
Tab to the taskbar, do alt+enter, control+tab, and I believe somewhere
in that dialog was a radio button or check box to change the start menu
and desktop to classic.
To reset the control panel to classic tab around on the screen until you
see a button for clasic view, or icon view, or something like that.

To get rid of that annoying welcome center screen that pops up when you
log in you have to open the Vista Registry and manually delete the
welcome center key from the startup options. Once done the Welcome
Center popup will bite the dust. Unfortunately, I don't have the exact
branch for that key memorised, but it wasn't hard to find. It was
something like
HKey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows
and from there I can't remember where the Welcome Center key was. Though
I gave you the general area where to find it.
One of the nice things of being a programmer is you learn about the
registry structure, and find little tricks like killing the Welcome
Center where the average user has no option to do it. Grin.
Sorry, I can't be much more help than this at the moment, but I am till
living out of boxes, and I don't currently have a Vista computer
available since that computer was the one with the bad motherboard.
Though, I do remember allot of the things I did to make it work better
with screen readers in general terms.
Cheers.

[Audyssey] audio trivial pursuit - Re: Board games was Hello

2007-06-03 Thread Charles Rivard
Jim Kitchen has some trivia games in his text to speech collection of games
that can be found at

www.kitchensinc.net

site. As far as an audio version of the games of Trivial Pursuit like those
you buy in the stores, I would think that this would be better if the games
were written as text games so that you could use your screen reader, or,
even better, SAPI speech were used. However, the entering of the questions
and answers would be a very lengthy process. My perspective, though, is
from a gamer's point of view, as I am not a programmer.

Re: [Audyssey] Board games was Hello

2007-06-03 Thread Charles Rivard
Now, that's interesting! I thought it would be a lot of work inputting the
questions. Would you, or another developer consider trying it when, and I
know it would be in the future cause you're, shall we say, just a bit?? busy
right now? Thanks.

 Hi,
Yes, Trivial Pursuit is very easy to recreate using audio. Many board
games are. Some can be difficult, but that one is pretty easy.
