Hi che,

sounds great, I've been waiting for a fully accessible Rpg game ever sinse I
first discovered audio games, --- let me know if your in need of beta
testers.

If it is for reference purposes, the 2nd edition players handbook and gm
handbook would probably be fine. From those two old Cd roms I mentioned, I
can probably extract a good many of the 2nd ed books, including the ones for
various specialist classes, though I'd imagine by now they're all available
online, especially as chronologically, 2nd ed is now two editions back
(which is why the resources for it are available, being sort of Rping
abandonware).

good luck with the game.

Beware the grue!

ah, thanks for the info there Dark.
I am contemplating creating an online RPG game for all us blind folks,
using what I have learned from the multiplayer aspects of Rail Racer.
I don't see the need to reinvent the wheel as far as character creation,
combat rules and the like go, so I am hoping to find documentation on how
 the various components work.
I have some ideas that will make this a very unique and immerssive game
experience for the blind, where lots of blinks from around the world can
come together to role play their hearts out.
This is all in the outlining stages at this point, as I am spending my
coding time finishing up the final details of Rail Racer, but I am quite
serious about taking the task on.
One of the more difficult aspects I foresee is map and quest creation, so
I plan on making a map generator so folks can create areas of their own
 that
can be plugged into the main playable maps.
From what I have discovered with the online aspects of Rail Racer, this
 is
all feasible, and should work quite smoothly on my dedicated server for
 the
 amount of players I anticipate.
Anyway, like I say it is just in the planning stages at this point, but I
will keep you all updated as the ideas and techniques for the game and
 interface solidify.
  Later all,
   Che

[Audyssey] Game Cider

2007-06-11 Thread Orin
Hi all,

This should be verry interesting for people especially developers if
they want to switch there games to the mac without programming anything.
Furthermore, there are really no audio games for the Mac, and Game Cider
I believe could help.

Here's some info about it.

Cider is a sophisticated portability engine that allows Windows games to
be run on Intel Macs without any modifications to the original game
source code.
Cider works by directly loading a Windows program into memory on an
Intel-Mac and linking it to an optimized version of the Win32 APIs.
Games are simply
wrapped up in the Cider engine and they work on the Mac. This means
developers only have one code base to maintain while keeping the ability
to target
multiple platforms. Cider powered games use the same copy protection,
lobbies, game matching and connectivity as the original. All this means
less work
and lower costs. Cider is targeted at game developers and publishers
and, unlike Cedega, is not an end user product.

The Intel-Mac Explosion

Why should developers and publishers consider the Mac market? In the
last quarter alone, Apple shipped almost a million Intel Macs, outpacing
iPod sales
for the first time in 2 years. Ben Reitzes for UBS Investment Research
expects Apple to sell over 1.3 million Macs next quarter and between 5.1
and 6.7
million units over the 2006-2007 fiscal year. A poll of Mac purchasers
conducted by Apple shows that nearly 50% of buyers are “new to Mac”.
This means
more and more Windows users are switching to Mac. Furthermore, analyst
Charles Wolfe of Needham Company expects Apple to triple its share of
the home
computer market. With only a small collection of games available, the
Mac gaming market is a void waiting to be filled.

To get your games available to Mac users today contact TransGaming at:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

The link for more info is:

http://tinyurl.com/2pwxe9

Hope some developers at least consider it and talk to them with the
folks at TranceGaming and see how it all works and at least think about
this...

Hello, everyone. Ron asked me to remind you all that he would appreciate
any materials such as articles or game reviews that you'd care to send him
for the next issue of Audyssey. He plans to publish it fairly soon. You
may also wish to send along your congratulations as he and Sylvia have
recently gotten married. He's been away from home for the past while but
will be returning to what passes for his new normal life this week. If
you've sent him something and haven't heard back from him, you may want to
send it again to make certain he has it. You'll all be happy to know the

[Audyssey] The upcoming issue

Hello all

Now that things have somewhat settled personally around here, I am

[Audyssey] a knew mud jfw might read this weird

2007-06-11 Thread CHRISTINE SHADE
Hello all. I found a knew mud that I think people will like. The point of
it is elegantly simple since its pure pk, but its the way in which you can
go about it that's fun. Also, there isn't a lot of ASCII junk to throw off
our screen readers either. Its wonderful. Don't let the lack of players
discourage you. The occasional npc can make your life quite hard as a
newbie. I found this thing at 2:00 in the morning yesterday when I couldn't
sleep. Go figure. The information is below. This might cause your jfw to
hang, if so read by hand. Sorry.

This is not your typical Mud. Certainly not your typical DikuMUD. You see,
GZ (as the natives call it) doesn't bother with all that hack-n-slash, roll
or role playing, magic, skills, levels, and classes DD crap. Hell, there's
not even the traditional concept of zones and areas. You see, we're pure,
unadulterated, unapologetic PK. Now, I know what you're thinking: if there's
no magic, no skills, no levels, no classes, no zones... What is there? Guns.
And explosives. And tanks. And one helluva' adrenaline rush. We're not
masking our violent tendencies and immature behavior behind Grokthar the
Level 23 Barbarian. We're bringing it right to the forefront. We're rude,
we're crude, and we'll definitely try to put a bullet in you. As you start
out in the game, you're going to start noticing that things are drastically
different from what you've come to expect from Muds. Some of the concepts
are the same, some of the commands are familiar, some basic ideas remain;
these similarities will only compound the differences into a potentially
confusing and frustrating first play experience. There's a significant
learning curve: the best way to get over it is by playing and not getting
frustrated. Still, it'd help to have a more gentle introduction than what
most of our players will want to give you...

Now I will tell you that at this time, I think vehicles is getting a rewrite
so I don't yet know what else is being re done, but its still quite possible
to have fun with out them. Make sure you read the help hints, help tips,
help faq, and help tactic files. It makes life a bit easier. I hope to see
you all around for some serious killing. I'm marhan in game. If you want
to talk to me more about this game you can skype me with

Take care,

Re: [Audyssey] The upcoming issue

2007-06-11 Thread Charles Rivard
A thought for gamers: If, as it has been said, that no new games have come
out, do you have any of your favorites that you can write an article on?
Ron, and Michael before him, have mentioned that it never hurts to have
reviews that give different perspectives on a game you like. Plus, there
are new gamers who may not know of your favorite game's existence.

 Hello all

Now that things have somewhat settled personally around here, I am
planning to have the next Audyssey out at the end of June. What I'm
 asking
for is help with this, from all of you folks. To this point unless I've
missed alot or forgotten about any submissions I've saved it's going to be
 a
slim one. Not saying I'm wanting to put out the largest issue ever, but
would like a reasonable issue. So as always I'm asking for reviews,
articles, letters, or anything to assist in making the magazine an
enjoyable, fun, and informative read for everyone! Also if you have any
suggestions to add I'd certainly listen to any and all.
So please send stuff my way for Audyssey.

 Thanks!

2007-06-11 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Will,
Even though a demo of the Sarah game beta was released in 2005, I think the
full
release of Sarah this march would be considered a major release this year
and could also be considered a type of GMA release.
and with Freedom Scientific's lawsuit with the Freedom Box, maybe I should
be worried since Freedom Scientific has also produced SARA (Scanning and
Reading Appliance) and Freedom Box is produced by Serotek Corporation.
Mity confusing, I'd say!

 hi ron

there's no games that are planned though in fact, nothing has really
 come out this year from g m a, bavisoft, b s c, p b games or anyone
so really this year has been really thin on the ground, and i think
most people will turn their attention to mudding now as it always

In addition, The Monty demo is right around the corner, and Rail Racer
will be out this month as well.
I'd say three major releases is nothing to sneeze at, and plenty to write
about.

[Audyssey] One handed gaming

2007-06-11 Thread Che
  Hi all,
I received a request by a blind gamer asking about setting Rail Racer up
for one handed play.
Here are the two methods I am considering:
1. Simply add functionality to keys around the 6 keys that control the
racer for feedback.
By default, the keyboard controls are I and K for acceleration and
deceleration, j and l for leaning left and right and u and o for gear
shifting.
The feedback keys are a for altitude, s for speed, d for lean angle, f for
fuel, g for gear and so forth.
I could allow the option to remap the feedback keys to keys around the 6
control keys, such as n for speed, m for fueld and so forth.

  2. I could remap the jumps to the right shift key and have the spacebar
used as a modifier so the control keys give feedback.
By default the spacebar is used to activate the jump jets, this could be
shifted to the right shift key.
For example, I is used to accelerate, but if the spacebar is held down,
the I key would read the speed and so forth.
  Any thoughts?
Any one handed players out there with suggestions?
  Thanks,
  Che

Re: [Audyssey] The upcoming issue

2007-06-11 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Charles,
I'm not sure where some people come up with the no new releases bit, but
there actually have been several new games introduced this year. We have
the 12 experimental games from Audiogames.net, Montezuma's Revenge
coming up, Rail Racer, Sarah just released, and Judgement Day went on
sale before last Christmas. Lots of games in the past six months alone.
True very little of these games made it in to the mag, but they have
been released or are on the coming soon list.
