Re: [Audyssey] The Rail Racer demo is ready to race

2007-06-15 Thread Davy Kager
I did give it a shot (and I'm now in class 4 with the bonus track unlocked).
The thing is though that there's more in development... And I do definitely
not want to, well, some sort of steal ideas from Rail Racer, but we'll
implement some of Rail Racer's features anyway.

It will only affect your good ideas if you allow it to. He may have ideas
you haven't thought of, or he might employ methods that would improve upon
your ideas. The only thing you are doing by not playing his demo because of
a fear that it might degrade your own ideas of what is, and is not, a good
game is that you are shorting yourself and not possibly expanding your
outlook.

Re: [Audyssey] SL Airbot battle.

2007-06-15 Thread Neo
This is also more or less what I do.
I keep running towards him at the beginning, and when I believe he's close
enough, I shoot him. It is easy to determine the necessary distance once you
try a few times and get the hang of it.
The very moment he gets hit, he jumps into the air, trying to land on your
head. He is now on your right so naturally he jumps to the left.
So I run to the right, making him land behind me or to the left of me, if
you like. Then it's just the matter of turning back to him and firing,
running 4 or 5 steps left, waiting for him to land, turning back to him,
firing, running 4 or 5 steps to the right, waiting for him to land, etc... I
believe it takes round 10 hits to kill him.
Hope this helps,
Lukas

Re: [Audyssey] SL Airbot battle.

2007-06-15 Thread Shadow Dragon
I don't really wait for him to center himself, personally. I just shoot him
when I hear him coming at me, then let him jump into the air over my head.
If you run forward a bit, not too far but just enough to get out of the way
of his landing, you can use the keys that flip you around without making you
take a step and shoot him before he has a chance to start moving toward you.
If you're like me and like to add a bit of risk to the mix, you can even run
forward and turn while he's still in the air.

I'd support this if it happened.
Another idea, have some audio chat software within the game or have a
teamtalk server with channels for general chat, racing etc.

This would work well. We have tested the game with a few different voice
chat sites as we raced against each other online, and if you have a high
speed connection it works quite nicely.
The reason I remapped the nitro key in Rail Racer from the left control
key to z was so it could be used to voice chat as you play without
interrupting the game.
Frankly, it is hard to hear what others are saying in the heat of racing,
but it works well for discussion before and after a race, especially when
you want to place a bet against your opponents in the game. And of course,
lets not forget the trash talking. having a screenreader reed Your gonna
be begging for your momma when this race is over just isn't the same as
hearing it from the person themselves, grin.
My preferred voice chat site is www.VIPConduit.com because their software
was written exclusively for the blind and is very solid and easy to setup
and use.
However, any voice chat site would work, including audio tips and for the
people, both created for blinks to voice chat.
I have considered Team Talk as an option that could be included in the
game, but at $600 for the code , it will probably have to wait for a future
release, such as the RPG .

Re: [Audyssey] SL Airbot battle.

2007-06-15 Thread Bryan Peterson
Hi Tom,
Once you learn what his sounds mean, Airbot is actually quite easy. He
starts the battle moving towards you. You hear him as a sort of whooshing
ound. When he gets close enough, shoot him. If you don't he'l zap you with
his laser. If you manage to hit him you'll hear him give a robotic laugh as
he jumps up in the air. Run under him before he lands. If you're too close
when he lands he'll zap you with his laser. He'll then start the pattern
over. Just repeat the pattern and you should easily bring him down. It takes
ten hits to destroy him.

[Audyssey] Future patches for Sarah

2007-06-15 Thread Neo
Hi Phil,
are you working or do you want to work on any more patches for Sarah
currently?
I installed the 1.0 release when it first came out and then patched it up
with every new patch that became available, but there are still quite a few
nasty bugs or at least odd behaviours even with the last patch. In fact,
maybe there are more of them now than before.
There's the thing with the headless hats that you said you accidentally made
the hats untakable or something like that.
Then the game occasionally freezes or slows down rapidly for a couple of
seconds without any obvious reason, or at least I wasn't able to discover
any regular pattern yet.
Then, when you walk from one surface to another, or when there are just
simply too many sounds playing at once, some of them don't stop when they're
supposed to, etc... Several little malfunctions, but they're still
malfunctions.
I'm just making sure whether you are aware of these and want to do something
about them.
Thanks,

 Hi Phil,
are you working or do you want to work on any more patches for Sarah
 currently?
I installed the 1.0 release when it first came out and then patched it up
with every new patch that became available, but there are still quite a
 few
nasty bugs or at least odd behaviours even with the last patch. In fact,
maybe there are more of them now than before.
There's the thing with the headless hats that you said you accidentally
 made
the hats untakable or something like that.
Then the game occasionally freezes or slows down rapidly for a couple of
seconds without any obvious reason, or at least I wasn't able to discover
 any regular pattern yet.
Then, when you walk from one surface to another, or when there are just
simply too many sounds playing at once, some of them don't stop when
 they're
supposed to, etc... Several little malfunctions, but they're still
 malfunctions.
I'm just making sure whether you are aware of these and want to do
 something
 about them.
 Thanks,
 Lukas

well che, from my brothers world of warcraft playing voice chatting seems to

Yes, voice chatting definately adds to the experience of racing your

If you want to hear an absolutely hilarious clip do a search for leroy

This is also more or less what I do.
I keep running towards him at the beginning, and when I believe he's close
enough, I shoot him. It is easy to determine the necessary distance once you

try a few times and get the hang of it.
The very moment he gets hit, he jumps into the air, trying to land on your
head. He is now on your right so naturally he jumps to the left. So I run to
the right, making him land behind me or to the left of me, if
you like. Then it's just the matter of turning back to him and firing,
running 4 or 5 steps left, waiting for him to land, turning back to him,
firing, running 4 or 5 steps to the right, waiting for him to land, etc... I

believe it takes round 10 hits to kill him.
Hope this helps,
Lukas

Will RailRacer work on a Windows Vista Home Premium system? When I tried to

pressed enter, my Vista laptop rebooted.
This happened the second time I tried installing it.

Subject: [Audyssey] rail racer general problem

 Hi, Che and everyone,

Will RailRacer work on a Windows Vista Home Premium system? When I tried
to install the game, I was asked if I wanted to allow this. When I
pressed alt+a to allow the install file to continue, my speech went
silent, and when I pressed enter, my Vista laptop rebooted.
This happened the second time I tried installing it.

Yah, that is something I neglected to mention in the docs. If you are
ahead of Art, he is on your left, if you are behind, he is on your right.
This really helps you tell who is ahead when you are very close to him.
If you think that track is bad, wait until you see some of the monsters
I've created for class 4 and higher in the full version.
The track named hanging force has a jump and a force field right in the
middle of a loop for example. Mooahahaaa.
What kind of times are you guys pulling on the first track btw? I'm
curious who has the fastest times so far. Fortunately in the full version
you can check everyone's times on the web, which leads to some pretty heated
competitions. In the last tournament we had the diffference on two tracks
was down to the hundreth of a second, now that is some tight racing right
there.
  Later,
  Che

Re: [Audyssey] Rale racer impressions

2007-06-15 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Che,
I heard his engine on the right side then switched to the left.
So that is the sound of me passing him!
I did win the race and after my engine stopped, heard his engine to the
left.
I was talking about playing the Art's engine file AIEngine1.wav
It is in stereo and the engine sounds from both channels.
I assumed the file would be in mono.

Hmm, no he shouldn't be in both channels, if he is ahead he will be on
your right, and vice versa. That is mighty odd there.

Hi Che,That was a joke about Art's engine, since if he had a YuGo engine
 it
would be a 2 cylinder or something very slow like a lawn mower.
I do wonder why his engine is in both channels since I imagine Art in the
rail to your left or right.
Maybe I have not gotten close enough to hear it in a race!

Yah, I'm still tinkering with the land easy and hard, I was hoping to
 have
it set so if you used the gravity puller you would have to put in a
 touch
 of
jump jets at the very end of your fall to keep from taking damage, but
 it
doesn't look like that feature is going to make it for this release.
Glad to see you are using the mouse, I'm confident it makes for better
 lap
times in the long run, though some of my testers would disagree.
I struggled a bit with the sound of Art's engine, it needed to be
 distinct
but not overbearing if it was a close race, this is the best I've come
 up
with so far, but one reason I left the sounds open is so people can
experiment and hopefully come up with better sounds for some of this
 stuff
 if they want.
I hope to have the full version ready for the list members on Sunday or
Monday if testing goes well, so keep your fingers crossed.
  Later,
  Che

 Hi Che,
Love playing the demo of Rail Racer.
Just one problem I'm gripping the mouse too hard and it squeaks. Plus
 my
hand is getting tired holding it so tight.
I'm getting better at the turns and jumps but I've been just taking a
 break
 on the loops.
I'll probably work on getting better at them next.
I noticed two sounds in your folder,
 landHard.wav and landEasy.wav
They happen to be the same sound.
Is a different hard sound something you're saving for the full game?
My only complaint is the sound of Art's engine.
It should sound something like a model T Ford!
Or how about the sound of a Yugo?
 smiles,
 Phil

Brilliant!

Annoyingly, I'm going off to nottingham on Sunday to see my parents, and
possibly won't be back until the following thursday, but whenever the game
is available to buy, I'm deffinately buying it (pluss, after summer I'm
likely to be horribly poor, so I'd better get it now).

Yes sir, the force fields are a total pain to deal with, I have done
thousands of laps, and I still haven't perfected them.
BTW, final beta is going out tomorrow and if testing goes well, I may go
ahead and sell the full release to list members ahead of Wednesday's
 release
date to help spread out some of the licensing work.
I'll update the list about this tomorrow.

 Hi Phil,
are you working or do you want to work on any more patches for Sarah
 currently?
I installed the 1.0 release when it first came out and then patched it
 up
with every new patch that became available, but there are still quite a
 few
nasty bugs or at least odd behaviours even with the last patch. In
 fact,
maybe there are more of them now than before.
There's the thing with the headless hats that you said you accidentally
 made
the hats untakable or something like that.
Then the game occasionally freezes or slows down rapidly for a couple
 of
seconds without any obvious reason, or at least I wasn't able to
 discover
 any regular pattern yet.
Then, when you walk from one surface to another, or when there are just
simply too many sounds playing at once, some of them don't stop when
 they're
supposed to, etc... Several little malfunctions, but they're still
 malfunctions.
I'm just making sure whether you are aware of these and want to do
 something
 about them.
 Thanks,
 Lukas

Re: [Audyssey] Voice chatting with Rail Racer

2007-06-15 Thread Dark
Yep, warcraft rade coordination can be pretty strange. apparently one member
of my brothers rading guild got some very strange reactions sitting on a
plain with his laptop yelling heal me! now fighter, get the demon
n! shield shield!

Apparently at one point they heard the Steward asking wondering if he was
quite alright.

obviously, it'd also be great to have that sort of thing in an audio rpg if
possible, - pluss I would just have to play as brave sir robbin

  What is your favorite color?
  you may pass.
Yes, voice chatting definately adds to the experience of racing your
 friends online.
If you want to hear an absolutely hilarious clip do a search for leroy
 warcraft on you tube, www.youtube.com
Look for the clip that is about 3 minutes long and be sure and listen to
the whole thing, it is a recording of several guys playing Warcraft
together, until one of them gets tired of all the planning and decides it
 is
 time for action.
Absolutely the funniest thing I have ever heard on you tube.

well che, from my brothers world of warcraft playing voice chatting seems
 to
add a lot to the game, particularly when planning and coordinating team
attacks, or raids as they're called.

Now I'm out of university accommodation and have my own dsl connection
 voice
chatting is something I really want to get into, - hence my ordering
 of
a Usb mike which stil! hasn't appeared.

As to the racing, I can't wait to tell everyone in person:

your mother was a hampster and your father smells of elderberries

creddit to everyone who gets the reference, to everyone who didn't, check
out monty python and the holy graille as soon as you can, it's fantastic!

Beware the Grue! (who does not smell of elderberries).

This would work well. We have tested the game with a few different
 voice
chat sites as we raced against each other online, and if you have a high
speed connection it works quite nicely.
The reason I remapped the nitro key in Rail Racer from the left control
key to z was so it could be used to voice chat as you play without
 interrupting the game.
Frankly, it is hard to hear what others are saying in the heat of
 racing,
but it works well for discussion before and after a race, especially
 when
you want to place a bet against your opponents in the game. And of
 course,
lets not forget the trash talking. having a screenreader reed Your
 gonna
be begging for your momma when this race is over just isn't the same as
hearing it from the person themselves, grin.
My preferred voice chat site is www.VIPConduit.com because their
 software
was written exclusively for the blind and is very solid and easy to
 setup
 and use.
However, any voice chat site would work, including audio tips and for
 the
people, both created for blinks to voice chat.
I have considered Team Talk as an option that could be included in the
game, but at $600 for the code , it will probably have to wait for a
 future
release, such as the RPG .
