Hi Josh,

Yes, Puppy1 is a twin engine prop plane. I'm not sure how many engines the

Re: [Audyssey] got into the conference

2008-05-06 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Claudio,
There was a Tech Talk conference last night featuring Jim Kitchen and
his games. During the conference Jim showed off Monopoly, Football,
Casino, and baseball. He talked about his plans for puppy 1, and how he
got into accessible games.
After the main part of the conference everyone drifted into how Audyssey
and the magazine has grown into a community and family thanks to Jim's
games. How Jim's games really were the first accessible games most of us
played which is certainly true for me.
He talked about how around 1989 he got an NEC with Jaws For Dos and
there wasn't really any accessible games out there. So he began to write
his own.
In that regard he and I are a lot alike. After I lost my sight I didn't
think there were any accessible games so I started programming games.
When I found Audyssey I discovered there were games, but nothing like I
had been playing before loosing my sight. hence the creation of USA Games.
After listening I did get a greater respect for Jim just seeing how much
enjoyment, help, and education his games have done for a lot of people.
Many of them from an older generation who aren't interested in Tomb
Raider, Jedi Knight, Resident Evil, and the kind of games us from a
younger generation are after. It is easy to loose sight of that when we
are looking ahead at the future rather than the history and how much we
were all effected by someone like Jim and Phil who opened the door for
accessible games in the first place.
I kind of have to laugh, but some of PCS Games older titles like
Panzers In North Africa are still on my wish list for Windows games. the
game rocked and I miss having it.
I remember Trek 99 and I really enjoyed that game. It was Trek 99 and
Trek 2000 that influenced STFC.

 Nicol here.
I would like to know if there is any developer who want to try their hand at
 a flash game.
At my workplace a game has been released on the intranet, it's a game where
you have to guide your boat to a harbour avoiding many obstacles.
I'm working for south african revenue services, the agency governing tax
collection in south africa. So this little game has been released on the
intranet to demonstrate how revenue collection can be compared with a boat
 sailing to his destination.
I would very much like to play this game, however its not in its current
state accessible for blind people. Is there anyone who want to try remaking
this game so that it becomes accessible? NO need to worry about copyright
issues, my employer has given full permission for an accessible remake to be
 created of this game.
And I'm sure once its made accessible others will enjoy playing it too.
Please let me know who will be interested so that I can send the source code
 along to you.
The source code for the game is contained within a flash file. I don't know
the extention but within windows explorer jaws reads that the file type is
 shockwav flash object.

Hi Nicol,
Sorry, I see I must have confused you. Flash is a programming language.
It is not one I am extremely familiar with though just because I haven't
had much need for it in the passed. I've been more in contact with Java,
C++, Visual Basic, and that sort of thing.
However, if you want me to look at it send me the source and I will at
least look at it. No promieses of writing anything though. I've got
plenty of programming work just converting all of my games from C# to
C++ right now.

[Audyssey] 3D Velocity.

2008-05-06 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Munawar,
I finally had a chance to sit down and try out 3D Velocity and I must
confess I am impressed. The human voices, realistic sounds, and action
for this game is going to make it one of the best games of 2008.
I am interested to know who does the voices for the menus. Whoever she
is she sounds extremely good. I'd definitely like to hear her used in
more accessible games, because she has a top quality voice. I really
enjoyed that touch to the game.
Finally, the cut scenes are really cool. I really liked those as well. I
felt like I was playing something like a mainstream commercial jet
fighter game. Keep up the fantastic work.

Hi,
interesting. I felt most of them made perfect sense. alt, control, and

I also like the fact page down is used for ascend and up arrow is
descend. This is more like a real aircraft. On true aircrafts pulling
the stick back pulls the nose up and pushing it forward dives. So this
again makes perfect sense in the context of the game.
Is there any particular key commands you thought were
confusing/difficult to use? I'm interested to know why it is not
intuitive to some, and is intuitive to others.

 Hi,
interesting. I felt most of them made perfect sense. alt, control, and
shift plus the arrow to bank, turn, and roll.

[Audyssey] pixies in the sarah game?

2008-05-06 Thread nicol
I was reading the bit in the second harry potter book how lockhart opened
the cage with the pixies and how the pixies caused havoc in the class.
It would be fun if sarah can also encounter some pixies which she must
defeat.
She can probably do it the way hermione did it, by using a freezing charm.
Games we like to play
In sarah and the castle of witchcraft and wizardry, once you enter the
defence against the dark arts class you will find a cage.
Open it by hitting enter and you will have a challenge of pixies biting you
and jumping onto you.
Find a way to deal with them. grin
Phil, I hope you would be able to consider including pixies in the next
patch.
It would be fun to have a fight with them, I wonder where phil would be able
to find sounds for pixies.

 Hi Munawar,
I finally had a chance to sit down and try out 3D Velocity and I must
confess I am impressed.

[Audyssey] Flash language was ship game

2008-05-06 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Bryan and all,
Well, Flash looks quite a bit like Java. It is syntactically and
functionally similar to the Java programming language. From what I
have seen of flash it looks pretty easy to learn. Though, I am pretty
familiar with Java so obviously Flash looks really easy to me.I've got
the necessary history and background to instantly look at the code and
get a grasp of what is going on.
However, unlike Java developmen tools Adobe Flash CS is extremely
expensive. I mean really expensive. The compiler and developmen IDE is
something like $700 per single user license, and an additional $199 for
upgrades. It is quite an investement for a developer. So unless you
plan to sell games it isn't very cost effective. Java, C++, or something
else would be more cost effective for a game developer.
Then, there is accessibility. Adobe products from what I have seen
aren't always very accessible. I can't speak for Adobe Flash CS, but
Dreamweaver isn't on my favorite list of web development tools. It
drives me up the wall.

Bryan Mckinnish wrote:
 Hi.
Speaking of the flash language, How hard would that be to learn. I've
found some really cool accessible games written in it.
 Thanks

USB headphones do not have the stereo-mix feature. you can get a headset mic
with two 1/8 inch plugs at the end, the one goes into speaker port and the
other into the mic port and you should be all set.

Subject: [Audyssey] voice program for game reviews

 Hi.

this one has come up once again. Like lots of people here, i own a
didgital recorder, the Rowland R09. this can either record through
external mikes, or be plugged into something. It records in sterrio and
 works very well.

I also own a usb mike which I use for talking to people on Skype.

It strikes me there should be a way, for me to speak into my mike and get
my voice to come out of the external speakers, along with whatever is
going on with my computer, so that I could then reccord sterrio reviews
with my voice, pluss sterrio game content on my r09 (which also has a
 headphone sockit).

despite looking for literally months though, I've found absolutely no way
of doing this, and am actually getting slightly frustrated with the hole
thing, sinse I can't find a way to, I've even tried skyping myself,
 but it annoyingly doesn't work.

If there is no program which will just let me here my voice as i
talk, and I find it quite hard to believe that there isn't, perhaps
someone could considder developing one if time is available, sinse I know
a lot of other people who want to reccord game reviews are in a similar
 position.

I'm really sorry if this is a stupid question, I know a lot of people use
some sort of reccording program, but hereing my voice through
speakers seems such a small thing, that i can't believe there's no way to
do it, and i'd much rather use the r09 which is quick and easy to use
than some uba complicated piece of software (especially if I'm trying to
play an audio game at the same time).

appologies again if this is a stupid question, it's just really! getting
 on my whick.

 Beware the Grue!

 Dark.

 Hi Munawar,
I finally had a chance to sit down and try out 3D Velocity and I must
confess I am impressed.

Re: [Audyssey] 3D Velocity.

2008-05-06 Thread Munawar Bijani
Hi,
When you're piloting an aircraft, remember that your commands to ascend and
descend are going to be different from your traditional up and down keys
since you now have a throttle as well. You pull back on your throttle to
lift your nose, and push forward on it to descend, this is why your ascend
and descend commands are page down and page up, and not vice versa; we're
simulating the throttle from the keyboard's perspective.

 Hi,
interesting. I felt most of them made perfect sense. alt, control, and
shift plus the arrow to bank, turn, and roll.
I'm interested to know why it is not
intuitive to some, and is intuitive to others.

appologies for the silly question, but what the heck is sterrio mix?

before I bought the usb mike, I used a standard hardware mike, one I'd
previously used with a carioki type system while performing one man shows..
I tried plugging that into my sound card, but could get no sound out of it
at all, which is why I bought the usb mike.

My r09 has actual sterrio microphones and can in fact reccord directly in
sterrio, but this is no good for most audio games sinse I don't find
playing on external speakers works very well for me, especially in games
with really complex and precise sound panning needed like Sarah or Gma tank
commander.

I know Raul gillegos and some others have managed it, but either they have
better hereing, or better speakers than I do.

for headphones, I don't particularly care about a headset mike. my R09 has
both a sterrio in and sterrio out, so it's quite possible to reccord in
sterrio on that with a standard pare of headphones plugged in.

Beware the Grue!

Re: [Audyssey] voice program for game reviews

2008-05-06 Thread AudioGames.net
Hi,

I think Jeh is referring to the standard (depending on your soundcard but
most have these) recording option in Windows called stereo mix. View your
sound settings (where you can set all the volumes, etc.), then look for the
settings for recording. This is in Windows where you want to set 'what'
you want to record from your computer (mic, aux, line, etc... but also
stereo mix... which is basically *every* sound your computer is producing
(well, aside from fan noise or dos speaker beeps ;).

Don't know if this also work with a USB mic like Jeh says but recording from
your computer's 'Stereo Mix' would allow you to record both your voice + any
other sound sources.

Greets,

Richard

Re: [Audyssey] 3D Velocity.

2008-05-06 Thread Ron Schamerhorn
Hi

The thing is you've need of a thruster control as welll as a verticle
movement. I'd say Page up and down work all right but it seems when I tap
it frequently is better.

games I play. So with that said I thought it would be easier to have the up

I really didn't get any were I mien I got off the ground but I was un able

 Hi Munawar,
I finally had a chance to sit down and try out 3D Velocity and I must
confess I am impressed.

I ran in to problems with this game. I get the game to start just fine but
it is not lifting me off the ground. The wine sound goes up in pitch and
then I hear tones and later on a steady tone in my right ear and when I
check the different instruments they shows zero and the speed of the motor
is around 276 or 376. When I try and use page down I crash so either I'm
doing something wrong or the game isn't running correctly on this machine.
I guess I'll uninstall it and go get a fresh copy from the web site and try
again. We need an Audio Tutorial on playing this game. I was trying the
racing mode.

hi munawar,

It was just the way the keys are different for turning. i wasn't expecting
to have to use stuff like shipt left and things like that, although, i am
using a laptop, so i suppose it probably is a little harder, and i think the
key layout might slow down reactions when in combat, especially for new
players, but i haven't tried that yet.

Re: [Audyssey] 3D Velocity.

2008-05-06 Thread Dakotah Rickard
I must confess. This game is top notch! I frankly don't understand
racing mode, but I love deathmatch.
I don't understand exactly what purpose rolling serves. It's certainly
a useful feature, but it seems a bit redundant. Other than that, I
love the game. I can't sto playing it, even though it's just a demo.
I've done loads with it to test it out. I have a couple of errors to
report, but I don't know where and how to report them.

1: If the Bogie is neutralized but there are still missiles or bullets
in travel, there appears an error. Is this possibly something to do
with the Bogie as an entity? I don't know how you worked stuff out,
but maybe the projectiles aren't designed to interact with an entity
that's gone. Also, might crashing into the enemy be implemented? I
kind of drove through it.

Please don't change the controls too much. I use a laptop primarily
and this is one game I can play easily on it.

Also, the game rocks. Thanks for making it so cool.

Dakotah Rickard

is she sounds extremely good. I'd definitely like to hear her used in
more accessible games, because she has a top quality voice. I really
enjoyed that touch to the game.
Finally, the cut scenes are really cool. I really liked those as well. I

 Hi Claudio,

Well I have football, baseball, golf, pong and mach 1. So there is five
sports games. And there is Tenpin Alley and The Savage Gambit. And
 other
sports games that I am not coming up with right now, but I do think that
we have a few sports games. Don't know if you would count Homer on a
Harley or spanker as sports games or not. grin

 As I have said

I'm sorry, but I will not be making a basketball, hockey or soccer game.
The thing is that all of those games are continuous action games where
 you
would want to control all of your players. I have no idea how I would
program that. Nor would I know how to depict where all of the players
 are
at all times. You know my football, baseball, golf, mach 1 and pong
sports games are turn based or continuous action where you only need to
 control one player.

 BFN

 Jim

I ran in to problems with this game. I get the game to start just fine but
it is not lifting me off the ground. The wine sound goes up in pitch and
then I hear tones and later on a steady tone in my right ear and when I
check the different instruments they shows zero and the speed of the motor
is around 276 or 376. When I try and use page down I crash so either I'm
doing something wrong or the game isn't running correctly on this machine.
I guess I'll uninstall it and go get a fresh copy from the web site and try
again. We need an Audio Tutorial on playing this game. I was trying the
racing mode.
