Re: [Audyssey] seeking Anacreon players

2010-01-17 Thread dark
Well, an inicial look suggests that the windows version at least wll work
with Hal, much in the same way smugglers did.

I'm also however trying the transcendence game mentioned on the website for
interest's sake. I suspect that despite being another space sim game it'll
be too graphical for screen readers, but it's worth a try.

As for Annacreon, I think I'll need to look the manual over. The interface
looks okay, but as you said yourself, it's a complex game.

Beware the grue!

[Audyssey] Annacreon fleets help

2010-01-17 Thread dark
Well as I said, the map interface seems fine.

I downloaded the windows version, and started a game in the pirates of jecata
scenario, sinse that was recommended for new players, and I also
downloaded the doss manual and read the tutorial section.l

The one thing I'm having trouble with now is fleet deployment. i can view the
map, world information and send probes, but I am rather confused at the
fleet creation window. Which do I need to click on first? and how can I input
numbers into the various columns?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Beware the grue!¬

When you enter the fleet window, you are positioned on the fighters
column. Remember, there are two rows, the upper is the fleet, the
bottom is the source of ships, i.e. a planet or another fleet. Hitting
up-arrow transfers all available ships or resources to the fleet, down
transfers all to the source. Use the right arrow to go across the
columns. If you hit enter, you can type in a specific number, such as
500 and hit enter again to set the number. The columns are in the
following order, which you pretty much have to just memorize:

fighters
hunter-killers
jump ships
jump transports
penetrators
star ships
transports
men
ninjas
ambrosia

In the Windows version, you can't scroll to the right column by going

Hi Rick,
Sure. The game is available on the Interactive Fiction Archive. Go to
www.ifarchive.org, navigate to the games/pc directory, and there'll be a
file named fallthru.zip. That's the game. The one thing which might
confuse you is that the ifarchive links aren't quite as friendly as they
might be. They all start with ifarchive on every page. So it'll be
something like if-archive/games, and on the next page
ifarchive/games/pc
Hope this helps,
Zack.

Shame textmode isn't working, they'd certainly been up a while when i
uploaded fallthru from there.

I've zipped it however and stuck it on sendspace though you can find it at
http://www.sendspace.com/popup_directlink.html

Unusually for me, I didn't seem to have the streight zipped version I
downloaded originally myself from textmode, so had to just delete the
and sssl files with my saved game, then zip the hole thing.

If you create a new game and start streight off it should be fine though.

if text mode doesn't come back soon, perhaps someone would be kind enough to
host the file more perminantly.

I'd be very interested to know if any of those other games in the pc section

Re: [Audyssey] seeking Anacreon players

2010-01-17 Thread Zachary Kline
Hi James,
You expand your empire by conquering new worlds visible on the map.
Those will create new resources for you if you designate them properly
and if they're of a high enough technology level. Tech level itself
increases gradually, though if you have any worlds designated as
universities they'll work specifically on new research for you. Also,
realize that if you conquer a primitive world its level will begin a
rapid rise as it is forced to integrate with the rest of the empire.
Finally, if you accidentally redesignate your capital to be a world with
lower technology level than the current one, planets will actually
regress.
Again, I really think reading the Dos manual is an excellent idea, as it
explains things in far better detail than I could.
Best,
Zack.

 Hi Dark,
One thing which might help this situation of having to remember the
order of columns is if Hal has any way to assign a custom highlight
attribute or something similarly worded. The selected item is usually
highlighted in a different color from all the rest.
 Hope this helps,
 Zack.

When you enter the fleet window, you are positioned on the fighters

bottom is the source of ships, i.e. a planet or another fleet. Hitting
up-arrow transfers all available ships or resources to the fleet, down
transfers all to the source. Use the right arrow to go across the
columns. If you hit enter, you can type in a specific number, such as
500 and hit enter again to set the number. The columns are in the
following order, which you pretty much have to just memorize:
 fighters
 hunter-killers
 jump ships
 jump transports
 penetrators
 star ships
 transports
 men
 ninjas
 ambrosia
 chemicals
 metals
 supplies
 trilium

In the Windows version, you can't scroll to the right column by going
left from the left, so you'll have to go all the way across with arrow
 keys.

I haven't played in quite a while, so I hope I've remembered things
 correctly.

2010-01-17 Thread Christopher Bartlett
Re: fleet deployment, Zach is right about the custom highlight assign
(jfw term). This provided some more specific information, even reading
the columns, at least the numbers in them when you arrow over them.

In order to send a fleet to a planet, you have to use the fleet/deploy
command. You will be presented with the list of available fleets at
your current location. Once you've selected the proper fleet, you hit
enter, then use your arrow keys to move to the desired target world to
send the fleet on its way. For instance, if you're sending a fleet from
your capital world at 0,0 to a world at -3,2, you will have to hit your
left arrow three times and your up arrow twice, then hit enter.
Depending on the composition of the fleet, it will take one or three
turns to arrive, until which time you won't have any attack options at
the target worlds.

Re: [Audyssey] Annacreon fleets help

2010-01-17 Thread Zachary Kline
Hi Guys,
Okay, the fleet deployment mechanism is one of those areas of the game
where access isn't as good as it could be. In this case, it's a cludgy
interface which could do with improvement in the game itself, but for
now we're stuck with it.
Here are the steps to get a fleet deployed:
1. Go to fleet-deploy, and set up the contents however you like.
2. Immediately after hitting enter or clicking okay on the setup screen,
go to fleet-set destination. It should be enabled. Select it.
3. This is the tricky part: move the cursor to the world you want to
send it to and hit enter. The trick is that you won't have any way of
being absolutely sure the cursor is on the world, as the fleet status
screen obscures the map coordinates. The best thing to do is just to
remember the best sequence of arrow key presses to get you from the
start to the destination. Hit enter. Read the status to be sure it's
right: unfortunately, world names aren't listed, so you'll just need to
rely on coordinates.
There is probably a shortcut or two that you can use once you're
familiar with the interface. I'm thinking in particular of the item on
the view menu which displays a list of worlds, but for now this'll get
you started.
One reason I prefer the Dos version is that it'll actually prompt you
for the destination coordinates instead of forcing you to use the map.
It also accepts names as destinations.
Hope this helps,
Zack.

Funny Zack, that problem of the fleet command obscuring the interface didn't
turn up at all with hal, sinse the auto reading vf simply read the
coordinates after each command.

Saying that though, I stil couldn't seem to set the destination properly
which was irritating. I do believe however there is a right click menue
which might help, I'm looking through the commands and manual details at the
moment.

As for the Dos version, I tried it, but couldn't actually get a scenario to
start for some reason.

Hi Dark,
I'm afraid the only thing you can do is practice. The set of steps I
outlined is pretty exacting: any deviation will probably mess things up.
I know that it is possible to play, definitely. If I could figure out
why the Windows version acts oddly on my computer I'd be there.
As for Dos, you need to first select game-new game... and load a
scenario, and then select game-begin to actually start it.
Hope this helps,
Zack.

[Audyssey] C++ Development And JFW 11

2010-01-17 Thread Harmony Neil
Hellow,

I opened the c++ development environment ready to write something, just for
a bit of practice from some tutorials, but according to jaws I hadn't
written anything, even though I was typing as normal. Well I closed it and
went back to my notepad file I was reading from and realized I couldn't do
anything properly. For example, I can't navigate the text by word or
sometimes even by line unless I constantly press insert up arrow.

Is there anything I need to do to be able to make jaws work with Visual c++
express edition as it should? I notice there are already scripts for it,
but it's just being strange at the minute.

Any ideas?

Please feel free to contact me by details listed below.

There is, but the baf's page is a bit useless compared to the one which used

to be on textmode which had far more about the game.

Stil, I've added a link to the audiogames.net entry, which A, gives another

I'd be very interested to know if any of those other games in the pc section

To make life easier, that section of the If archive can be found at
