2013-01-12 Thread Draconis Entertainment
Hi Michael,

The message about how it is recommended that VoiceOver be disabled while the
game is running only appears the first time the game runs. We felt it was more
important to limit the chance of it being accidentally interrupted by the user,
than to make it interruptible, since it isn't something you click through every
time.

The music, or other background audio, should not be interrupted at all by other
sounds. In fact, this is the first we've heard of this…What are the specs of
your Mac? Which version of the OS are you running? I suspect this may be a
problem unique to your configuration, or there's a conflict with something else
on your machine.

[Audyssey] Dwarf mies in alter aeon

2013-01-12 Thread Keith
In dragontooth, in the game alter aeon, there is a dwarf who will make
things for you if you supply him with mithril. I have found the mines and
have been dropping dynamite like a mad bomber, but all I find is mithril
coins, and a dwarf who will dig for you if you give him a coin. I have
found coal, blue stones, more coins and a portal.

Where can I find mithril to bring back to dragontooth.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the example.

That is truly bizarre, and not something we've ever seen or heard of. As I'm
sure you could tell from David Woodbridge's demo, that is definitely not
supposed to happen.

We will do some research and see if we can track down the cause. At this point,
I'm leaning toward either a quirk with your specific system configuration, or a
limitation of the hardware on that specific Mac model…the latter being highly
unlikely. Have you tried using other voices to see if the problem is exclusive
to Alex? You can change your system voice in System Preferences-Speech

Definitely want to get to the bottom of this.

Hi Ron,

Yes, most of your old games will run on Windows 8. As with Windows 7
as long as you install VB 6 etc most of your older games can be made
to work with Win 8. The only games I can't get to run on Windows 8 are
old 16-bit Dos games which makes sense given that 16-bit compatibility
was dropped.

2013-01-12 Thread Draconis Entertainment

Two other things to consider…

You said this was a fresh install of OS X 10.7. Have you applied all system
updates to Lion? Perhaps this was a TTS bug that has been fixed since Lion's
initial release. There were a number of quirks early on, since Apple made a lot
of under the hood changes to the TTS service in OS X Lion.

Also, you might want to consider just upgrading to Mountain Lion, as it is well
worth the $20. :) I'll continue to do some poking around.

The message about how it is recommended that VoiceOver be disabled while the

more important to limit the chance of it being accidentally interrupted by
the user, than to make it interruptible, since it isn't something you click

The music, or other background audio, should not be interrupted at all by
other sounds. In fact, this is the first we've heard of this…What are the

Re: [Audyssey] help with gagging text on vipmud?

2013-01-12 Thread Ryan Strunk
Hey Darren,
How you gag text depends on what method you use to write your trigger.
Personally I like to use the trigger wizard. I just copy the line I want to
gag, paste it into the trigger with an asterisk at the beginning and end,
then use the builder to assign actions to it. If you want to hand code it,
though, that's not hard either.
Say you have the line:
The ship shudders as its lasers are fired.
Place a line like so in one of your .set files:
#trigger {The ship shudders as its lasers are fired.} {#gagline voice}
Placing the word voice after gagline means that the text will still show up
in the log, but it won't be spoken. I like to do it this way because it
makes logs easier to understand. If you don't want the text to even show up
in your output window, you can substitute voice for all, or you can
eliminate the word altogether.
Please let me know if there's anything else you need help with.
All the best,
Ryan

Re: [Audyssey] Silver Dollar.

2013-01-12 Thread Draconis Entertainment

At the moment, we are not planning scoreboard postings, but it is something we
have been giving some consideration to. It is more likely we will have them for
iOS/Mac releases than Windows, as both of those platforms include game
scoreboards as part of the OS, and Windows does not. No firm decisions have
been made on this yet, so time will tell.

Maintaining our own, home-grown scoreboards is a lot of work for a very small
number of users who actually post to them.

Re: [Audyssey] Silver Dollar.

2013-01-12 Thread Draconis Entertainment
Going to break your message down into individual questions and try to answer as
best I can:

*snip*
Will the Windows version of Change Reaction have score board posting?
*snip*

As my previous message said, we have not decided whether any titles will have
scoreboard posting yet, or which ones will if some do. Since Mac and iOS both
have native scoreboards built-in, which allow users to compete and earn titles
without the overhead of custom servers, it is more likely we would support this
on Mac/iOS, but we're not sure if any titles will at this point, as the
scoreboards were used by only a small handful of all the players who bought our
games in the past. We won't, in any case, limit features for one platform just
because we can't, or it is unfeasible, to offer it to those using another. Hope
that makes sense.

Here is another example. Mac offers system-wide spell checking in all text
entry areas…be they edit fields, text editors, etc. We wouldn't disable spell
checking in a Mac app that accepted text entry, just because Windows
XP/Vista/etc does not offer system-wide spell checking.

*snip*
I do not understand why Windows users are being somewhat left out. The mac
does not have as many users as Windows, not yet at least, and it seems like
you're going to be releasing more games for MAC, with more features for the
 MAC, ETC, ETC.
*snip*

If you read our announcement from the release of ChangeReaction over at
draconisentertainment.com or AudioGames.net, you'll see that we plan on
releasing desktop titles that are essentially identical on Mac/Windows. We do
not expect there to be, in general, feature differences between Mac/Windows
releases. Scoreboards might be an exception. Mac releases will come out first,
for a variety of reasons, but that doesn't mean there will not be Windows
versions. Don't worry, we haven't forgotten our Windows fans.

*snip*
. A majority of the users on this list use Windows, at least this is what
I've seen. I would think, that your money will come from the users of Windows
more so than the MAC. Of course, there are some people who use MAC, but not
 as many.
*snip*

There is a large and rapidly growing number of blind Mac users, myself
included. The demographic of Mac users, especially visually impaired ones,
tends to skew younger, which is also the demographic who enjoy and purchase
games. We project, and so far the numbers are holding pretty close to our
expectations, that we will see at least as many Mac sales as Windows, and
possibly more. We will know more definitively when ChangeReaction 2 is released
for Windows.

While I believe you are correct that most users on this list are Windows users,
that has more to do with the fact that, until now, there have been very few
audio game titles for the Mac of any description. We are changing this. :)

*snip*
I was also wondering, will there be more pinball tables in the future?
 *snip*

We don't comment on unannounced releases. Sorry! :)

Hope this clears everything up. Mac is no longer as much of a minority as it
once was. Windows will have to share the spotlight when it comes to games now.
:)

Re: [Audyssey] monkeyterm question

2013-01-12 Thread Michael Taboada

Hi,
If you open up monkey term, then close the recent connections list if it
appears with alt f4, press control+n. That will open a new xml. it should
also open the connections dialogue in that xml, where the first field is the
name, like alter aeon or aardwolf or pretty much anything you want the title
of the window to be, next is the host name, then the port. Press enter, and
it should connect. You may need to type sdisconnect if it automatically
connects to alter aeon -- can't remember if it does, but if it does just do
that then press f4 then enter to open and close the connection dialogue.
Make sure you save the xml, which it should prompt you to do when closing an
unsaved new xml, but just to make sure you don't have to recreate it every
time :D.

alteraeon.xml file. It does not come up in the list but if I press
control+o and I type alteraeon it says Monkeyterm alteraeon
If I am connected what is supposed to happen because I just have a blank
screen. A few times I hear a descending tone sounding kind of like a
violin.

Thanks again

Hi,
If you open up monkey term, then close the recent connections list if it
appears with alt f4, press control+n.
Make sure you save the xml, which it should prompt you to do when closing an
unsaved new xml, but just to make sure you don't have to recreate it every
time :D.
Hth,
-Michael.

Subject: [Audyssey] monkeyterm question

Hi, all,

Is Monkeyterm just a mud scripting program or is it also a mud client? If
it is also a mud client then how do you use it to connect to a mud world? I
have been studying it and I can only see .xml items. I have installed
monkeyterm and mtscripts, but I can’t find where you can enter the name of a
world or make the connection.

Thanks for help
