You should be able to set it up just fine. Just make sure that nothing is
blocking the sensor bar and that the sports cd is in correctly--you'll get a
weird blurping sound if it's not. You'll also need to sync a second remote
if you have one, by holding buttons 1 and 2, the little round buttons, down
once the Wii is activated.
I haven't tried the resort games yet, but when I get a little extra cash I
intend to get it--the gyros are supposed to make play a lot more realistic.
As far as accessibility goes, Party games 1 is very accessible. You'll
just have to memorize where each game is, they don't change position.
Shuffleboard, for example, is on the bottom I believe three games from the
left--not sure. Party games 2 is harder to set up and the only difference
is that it has a football throwing game and other game features are
enhanced; for example, every time you release the a button, the puck is
released, which doesn't always happen with the original.
Wii fit is also very accessible for the most part, but some games like
skiing you won't be able to do because you won't know which way to go. The
hoola hoop is especially awesome because you can hear which side the hoop
falls on and know to lean that way to catch it. The tightrope game is
pretty easy too, and you'll hear the chompers--and when they get too loud
you jump over them. The only problem is you won't know which way you're
leaning.
Sonic at the Olympics only has a few games in that collection that are
accessible. There are also two Wii games you can play on your PC, both
free. One is called Audiodyssey and the other is Darkroom. For that,
you'll need a Bluetooth hookup.
As far as I know, there is no GTA for the Wii, but my brother-in-law says
that they have Bully, which might be worth checking out. They also have
Mortal Kombat, which I definitely want to get, and a boxing game called
Punchout that Lliam Ervin did a podcast on, but since I missed the show I
can't tell you much about it except that you face contender after contender
until you become champ.

The wii should be connected to the tv and then of course the
ac adapter for electricity your wall outlet for power.
At least this is the way my ps3 works.
After that you have to find the right av channel on your
remote control also. Then you will get a set up screen where
you will need some sighted help to adjust certain things
like date, time, resolution etc. after that you will always
get some kind of welcome screen. I don't know if wii plays a
jingle or not. Ps3 does not but I can always tell once the
hard drive inside starts spinning that it is getting ready
to start.

You should be able to set it up just fine. Just make sure that nothing
is

blocking the sensor bar and that the sports cd is in correctly--you'll
get

a weird blurping sound if it's not. You'll also need to sync a second
remote if you have one, by holding buttons 1 and 2, the little round
buttons, down once the Wii is activated.
I haven't tried the resort games yet, but when I get a little extra cash
I

intend to get it--the gyros are supposed to make play a lot more
realistic.
As far as accessibility goes, Party games 1 is very accessible. You'll
just have to memorize where each game is, they don't change position.
Shuffleboard, for example, is on the bottom I believe three games from
the

left--not sure. Party games 2 is harder to set up and the only
difference

is that it has a football throwing game and other game features are
enhanced; for example, every time you release the a button, the puck is
released, which doesn't always happen with the original.
Wii fit is also very accessible for the most part, but some games like
skiing you won't be able to do because you won't know which way to go.
The hoola hoop is especially awesome because you can hear which side the
hoop falls on and know to lean that way to catch it. The tightrope game
is pretty easy too, and you'll hear the chompers--and when they get too
loud you jump over them. The only problem is you won't know which way
you're leaning.
Sonic at the Olympics only has a few games in that collection that are
accessible. There are also two Wii games you can play on your PC, both
free. One is called Audiodyssey and the other is Darkroom. For that,
you'll need a Bluetooth hookup.
As far as I know, there is no GTA for the Wii, but my brother-in-law
says

that they have Bully, which might be worth checking out. They also have
Mortal Kombat, which I definitely want to get, and a boxing game called
Punchout that Lliam Ervin did a podcast on, but since I missed the show
I

can't tell you much about it except that you face contender after
contender until you become champ.

I am glad to be on this list and look forward in meeting you all.
I was wondering about the wii, I just received one today and have
checked out some of the archives on this list and the podcast on be c
t.

I was wondering if the setting up of the wii out of the box is possible
for some one that is blind or is sighted help needed the instructions
seem pretty good on the Nintendo site but just curious on some more
tips.

also besides the sports game what other games are as accessible in
playing? has any one played the resort game, and does the wii have that
game like ps 3 with the taking of cars and shooting people in the
streets

of new York?
thanks for the help

The wii should be connected to the tv and then of course the
ac adapter for electricity your wall outlet for power.
At least this is the way my ps3 works.
After that you have to find the right av channel on your
remote control also. Then you will get a set up screen where
you will need some sighted help to adjust certain things
like date, time, resolution etc. after that you will always
get some kind of welcome screen. I don't know if wii plays a
jingle or not. Ps3 does not but I can always tell once the
hard drive inside starts spinning that it is getting ready
to start.

I think all the aforementioned consoles have something good
to offer. Wii is more family oriented in their games while
playstation consoles are traditionally more 'hardcore'

gamer

oriented, with more shooters and racing games available.
Each has good games, so it is primarily a matter of what
type of games appeal more to the potential buyer.
As far as accessibility most games have some barriers for

us

blind gamers, but I do play some fighting games on ps3 a
lot, and gotten pretty good at it. The hard part in video
games is to always memorize the menu set ups and stuff

when

there is no audible feedback to let you know where you are
at. When I play ps3 I usually have some sighted person

play

me and they set up the game and stuff.

Re: [Audyssey] Nintendo wii and intro

2009-08-13 Thread ChB
Hi sal,
Hope you get it figured out so you can play.
It is really tricky because if you have no clue what is
going on it is next to impossible to fully get oriented, as
usually all set ups required to get into the games will have
no really audible feedback to let you know what choices you
made. Most times it is just sounds.
One of the fighting games for ps3 gives you the name of the
characters when you choose them, as they all have different
weaknesses and strenghts. I end up playing the same
character now always as I was able to figure out some good
working combos for him.
So maybe if you can get someone to first explain what is
going on on the screen, it is a lot easier to try and
memorize the layouts for each game. It would be awesome if
someone would come up with some sort of jaws like
screenreader that you could integrate into consoles. But I
guess the market would be too small and such a reader would
cost way too much. But it would be cool to see if more blind
gamers would then try out and enjoy some mainstream
videogames. I also have a psp with tekken and stuff to play
on it.
Happy gaming!
