I used lots of quake maps i found somewhere, don't remember where,
with little difficulty.
I would suggest that there's no way to know without playing around with it.

Also, when trying out previous versions of Audioquake, I experienced

It's just a zipped archive. No install necessary. Go to
www.audiogames.net, use the combo box to scroll down to audioquake,
click the home page link from there. I got your jediquake41 mod from a
link there as well.

Hi Dakotah,

Can you point me to the link where you got that copy of AQ?

It has been quite a while since I installed a mod to a pre-built copy of the
game, so I will need to take a quick look at the folder structure to refresh my
memory.

I’ll keep looking around here to see if I have an old copy of the game I can
look at as well.

I have modded games here but I have built them from scratch so they’re not much
help to you. :)

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Audioquake thoughts

2014-07-27 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,

Honestly I am not surprised you feel the way you do about Audio Quake.
While a nice idea in concept when I tested it a few years back the
only portion of the game the developers had made accessible were the
deathmatch arenas which aren't really my thing either. When I played
the original Quake back in 96, when I still had some vision, the
single player mode was much more interesting and its a shame that has
never been made fully accessible.

For those who don't know Quake I is basically about this person named
Ranger who travels to alternate realms via slipgate. The various
realms or levels differ from gothic temples, to lava filled caves, to
medieval looking mazes. Along the way you must collect runes and fight
various monsters. It was a pretty cool game for the time, and as
stated above Audio Quake seems to have missed all the really cool
stuff in favor of the deathmatch and online player verses player
arenas.

To be honest what I'd personally be interested in is a modern remake
of Quake based on the single player mode using the original maps,
sounds, and music. The deathmatch mode is cool, but not my thing.

On 7/27/14, dark d...@xgam.org wrote:
When I tried it back in around 2009 or so, it was fun but very limited.

The tutorial itself ended after several levels saying file not found which

was weerd, and I wondered if it was needed to have a full copy of quake or
something for this but I wasn't sure, and other than the tutorial the only
thing to do was death matches against humans or bots, though i never
actually had humans to play against.

Death matches fighting bots were okay as far as they went, and sapi's
speaking of the speech keys such as bot is axe murdered by dark, or bot
sucks on dark's boomstick were rather humerous, , but I'd have enjoyed more

to do in the game really, some monsters to fight, levels to finish, places
 to explore etc.

I tried the main game, but was totally lost, sinse it was never meant to
work with the audio addon and things were confusing as heck, it also didn't

help that the main game was so dark my vision couldn't assist me where as it

could in the tutorials and the death match arenas for some reason.

All in all I liked the project, it looked really interesting, but I wanted
to see what else could be made with it for players to do now that the basic

 audio was there.

as I said, this was the state of play in 2009, and things might have changed

sinse then, plus of course, remember that I'm not primarily interested in
death matches against humans or bots anyway sinse that sort of competition
for competition's sake is much less my thing.

Re: [Audyssey] Audioquake thoughts

2014-07-27 Thread dark

Interesting.

I didn't know much about original Quake at all. Some of my friends and my
brother in 19998-2000 were quake fans, but they only talked about the death
matches and of course being 3D I couldn't play it myself even if there had
been a workable pc version anyway, so I really don't know about the single
player game at all other than when I tried with audio quake it didn't work
very well.

Sinse audio quake does obviously work in designed levels, I'd be interested
to see if perhaps some sort of accessible version based on the original game
were possible in sound. Then again I don't know what single player options
might have been added sinse it was quite a while ago that I played the game.

Beware the grue!

Re: [Audyssey] Audioquake

2008-03-02 Thread shaun everiss
This is due to the world war 2 extention of quake.
if you are registered, rename sounds.pak to pak2.pak, backup the old pak2.pak
first.
If you use the shareware version then pak2.pak is pak1.pak.
if you have pak2.pak, and name the ww2 sounds.pak pak3.pak then you get this
message.
read the readme again, then rename the files, and then do what I did, which was
backup the entire folder the id1 folder that is to cd.
At 09:02 p.m. 2/03/2008, you wrote:
Hello gamers,
I have a problem with audio Quake.
If I start the game, I get the following message:
Launch Audio Quake
ERROR: You appear to have two copies of the mindgrid pakfile.
Please contact the developers for help.
Press ENTER to exit ...

But I have already registered.
What does that mean?
Thanks and regards, Kevin

Hi Zack, no prob at all in playing with anyone you want. (sighted
or otherwise) he can install the audio Quake package and simply turn
off the access features and show graphics. I believe I still have a
package up on my ftp site which I can check into which has this
already done. I seem to remember in that case, that someone can
simply run the GLQuake.exe file but not totally sure at the moment...

As for other game types, so far, the only other game types I know
of, that are implemented in AQ, are teamplay and coop... It's
certainly possible to have others, but this is starting to come into
the realm of mods rather than original Quake game types, which is
fine, except that it would involve a bit of coding that I for one,
would not want to do at present. smile JQ alone, took me quite a
while to create / perfect in it's present form. smile

Anyway, hope this answers your question and glad to see that people
are still interested in Audio quake / JediQuake!...

   Have an awesome day!...

Re: [Audyssey] AudioQuake confusion

2008-01-13 Thread Dakotah Rickard
Here's my take on sighted participation.

In some ways, sighted people will have an advantage over us in AQ. In
others, we have the advantage. For example, the JQ sniper mod allows us to
target across a map with accuracy. The sighted players do not have this
advantage if they do not use accessibility features. Even if they do, their
focus is the screen, so they miss out on clues like that. I have many
sighted friends who are interested in games for the blind. I consistently
beat almost all of them. Only one can beat me and that's because of rocket
launchers and the high speed of rocket approaches. The rest are either even
with me, based on map configuration, or are not as good as I am.

If in the launcher, they go into graphics rendering options, they can turn
on graphics. Note: a computer must have a fairly impressive hardware
configuration to show graphics without lag.

Here's my take on sighted participation.

In some ways, sighted people will have an advantage over us in AQ. In
others, we have the advantage. For example, the JQ sniper mod allows
 us to
target across a map with accuracy. The sighted players do not have
 this
advantage if they do not use accessibility features. Even if they
 do, their
focus is the screen, so they miss out on clues like that. I have many
sighted friends who are interested in games for the blind. I
 consistently
beat almost all of them. Only one can beat me and that's because of
 rocket
launchers and the high speed of rocket approaches. The rest are
 either even
with me, based on map configuration, or are not as good as I am.

If in the launcher, they go into graphics rendering options, they
 can turn
on graphics. Note: a computer must have a fairly impressive hardware
configuration to show graphics without lag.

 Hi,
Have you tried from the demo hiting the grauve accent? The one right
beside the numbers row 1 and typing disconnect?
The manual, last I saw of it, didn't actually explain this very well,
but that's what you need to do. Then you can type such things as Name a
nickname and map agtut01 and so on. The name command is for internet
 games.
If you need any more help, you can feel free to contact me if you wish.
I'm not a quake dev, but I've been playing it for over a year. My

Re: [Audyssey] AudioQuake question

2007-05-30 Thread Susanne Pedersen
Hi Brandon,
I fixed the demo problem. I found out, I had to delete a line saying
exec mod.cfg
from the autoexec.cfg file. Now, it brings up the console. My next project
is to find out why the game goes crazy, when I try to play the agtut maps.
Some things certainly seem to have been changed since I first tried
AudioQuake. Maybe, there are more settings, I must look at.

You're sure ` does not take you to the console? It is sometimes hard to
hear over the demo... try pressing ` then dm then hitting enter

Subject: [Audyssey] AudioQuake question

Hi,
I just installed AudioQuake and Quake on my new computer. When I launch the
game, it starts playing a demo, which I haven't seen it do before. I can
only switch between the main menu and these demos. I can't access the
console. Does anyone know how to get to the real game?

Thanks in advance,
