[Gimp-developer] Suggestions for Clone tool.

2002-02-25 Thread Stephen J Baker

I have a couple of suggestions for options for the Clone tool:

1) At present, the source data for clone is the image as
it was before you clicked on the mouse. It would be nice
to have an option to take the *current* state of the image
instead. When you are erasing some feature from a photo
by stealing a bit of background from somewhere nearby,
it's frustrating to accidentally pull in a part of the
   object you already erased.

2) It would be *really* cool if clone could 'mirror' the
direction of the brush strokes when picking up colour
from the image...so (optionally), as I move the brush
to the right, the clone's '+' cursor would move to the
left - and vice-versa. An option for an up/down mirror
and/or an arbitary rotation of the brush coordinates
   would be useful too.

In November 2001 I proposed something like 1) and some discussion followed on
the list. The thread is called Retouching pictures... and starts 25
October. Please check it.

I would love to do it, but, unfortunately, I won't have time tomorrow :-(

[Gimp-developer] Re: Suggestions for Clone tool.

2002-02-25 Thread Jim Lokken

I saw a message on the archives list (I wasn't subscribed and went
through that procedure but I am not sure I got it right yet - so please
don't abuse me) about Suggestions for Clone tool. I then went back to
the referenced thread from October. It talked about some clone tool
dialogs changes among some other ideas.

How about using a shift-click type option to use current new layer
versus the previous layer. This type of clicking is used for slightly
different results in selections and may fit well here. CTRL-click for
setting a point on previous image, SHIFT-click for using the resulting
image.

I was thinking more in terms of a 'Preferences' option. I can't
think of a good reason for wanting it to work the way it does now -
but evidently someone does or it wouldn't have been written the
way it is. That sounds like a 'Preference' thing I could set once
and forget about.

[Gimp-developer] translation of The Unstable GIMP

2002-02-25 Thread Sven Neumann

Hi,

I've sent this to [EMAIL PROTECTED] today and forgot to forward
it here. BTW. I don't intend to do the german translation for The
GIMP 1.4 so if some german speakers want to contribute, this is
a good chance to do so. Please contact me.

I've finally landed the new XML-based tips infrastructure and I think
its time to stop discouraging you from translating the HEAD branch of
The GIMP. We will certainly continue changing messages but I don't
expect that to be too many. So it might make sense to start
translating now.

As you all know, GIMP is special and I'd like to take advantage of the
situation and use this mail to sum up the special parts again. A few
things also have changed with respect to GIMP-1.2...

There are multiple po directories. In particular we have:

po- the main gimp application text domain
  po-libgimp- the libgimp text domain
  po-plug-ins - the standard plug-ins text domain
  po-script-fu - the Script-Fu text domain

GIMP uses intltool now, so you can use intltool-update in the po
directory. Unfortunately intltool-update refuses to work outsidethe
po directory, so you need to deal with the old-fashioned update.sh
scripts that are still there for that reason.

The tips directory contains more things to translate. The new tips
file is gimp-tips.xml which is created from gimp-tips.xml.in and the
po files found in the tips directory. You'll find an update.sh script
there and a dedicated ChangeLog, so the tips directory actually
behaves like a po directory for you. All the old translated
gimp_tips.txt files are still in CVS. Please remove them as soon as
all translation for your language are merged into the respective po
file.

More tips for translators are found in the file README.i18n in the
toplevel directory of the GIMP source tree. Please read it!

I encourage you to use UTF-8 encoding for the po files. At the moment
this is isn't mandatory but we might choose to make it mandatory at
some point.

Salut, Sven
