[Gimp-user] Dependency (GTK/Glib) compile probs
This is probably insanely simple. I'm trying to compile 2.1.5, so I had to update glib (2.4.6) on my system which I did with '--enable-shared' config flag. All went well. Then, gtk 2.4.9 configured (with --enable-shared) fine, but during 'make' it exists out looking for /opt/gnome/lib/libgobject-2.0.la which glib placed here: /usr/local/lib/libgobject-2.0.la What config option do I need to tell gtk where libgobject-2.0.la is now? I know this is really a question for GTK's mailing list, but I don't feel like budging from the cozy comform of the gimp list. Any help appreciated! [Gimp-user] Photoshop Brushes
My wife understands why I prefer to use open software, but doesn't really grok it. Still, she uses the GIMP and doesn't complain too much about things she misses in Photoshop, except for not being able to use all those pretty brushes people post up on Deviant Art. So, I've embarked on the journey you would think someone would have at least made some progress on by now. I'm not complaining that GIMP can't use PS brushes, just a little surprised there wasn't enough need for this that more work hasn't been done on it so far. I'm attempting to write a library to read Photoshop brushes, which I intend to use in both a Photoshop-to-GIMP Brush converter and in a plug-in/patch to allow GIMP to use them natively. I need some help. If any of you have or know of any documentation, perferably on the more recent versions of the format, it would be very much appriciated. I've found some PDFs released by Adobe several years ago, but the format seems to have changed a bit since then. I'm doing my best to figure things out as it is, but progress is slow. Also, anyone who has Photoshop, if you could e-mail me some simple brushes and tell me the number of brushes in them and their sizes, that could help me, as I would have some kind of reference points to go to in figuring out these headers. Currently, I'm working with brush files I know nothing about, except that they are brushes of pretty hair. Not very helpful. All in all, I think its a worthwhile spendage of time, and so anyone willing to lend even a finger, or hell, even an entire hand, would be very welcome and thanked to do so. ___ Gimp-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.xcf.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user
[Gimp-user] No printing options from GIMP
Hello: I compilled gimp 2.0.4 and it works fine, but I don't have a print option. I use a Cannon LBP4 printer and as Gimp-print does not include this driver, I installed Cups. But I also need to print out from Gimp applications. If I compille Gimp-print, I get problems with Cups ( localhost:631 offers only Gimp-print drivers, but not ESP ones ). I need to disable print in the gimp configuration, If not, the compilation gives an error. I also tried the Print-2.0.2.tar.gz plugin, but withouth success. So, at this moment I cannot print out of Gimp. I always have been able to print from older Gimp versions putting in the print option the parameters Printer Model: PostScritp Level 2 Printer Name: kprinter. But now I don't have a print option. Is there a solution to this? Beatriz ___ Gimp-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.xcf.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user
Re: [Gimp-user] Dependency (GTK/Glib) compile probs
Hi, Quoting Eric Pierce [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Then, gtk 2.4.9 configured (with --enable-shared) fine, but during 'make' it exists out looking for /opt/gnome/lib/libgobject-2.0.la which glib placed here: /usr/local/lib/libgobject-2.0.la Try running ldconfig, and making sure that the pkgconfig on your path is finding the right glib-2.0.pc file (have a look at the output of pkgconfig --libs glib-2.0), then check your PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable. It looks like you'll need to re-run configure anyway... Cheers, Dave. -- Dave Neary Lyon, France ___ Gimp-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.xcf.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

I'm not complaining that GIMP can't use PS brushes, just a little surprised there wasn't enough need for this that more work hasn't been done on it so far. You'd think that, but after all most of the people who put time into file formats and the like are techies, rather than artists... I don't even use photoshop... although I have twice. I'm attempting to write a library to read Photoshop brushes, which I intend to use in both a Photoshop-to-GIMP Brush converter and in a plug-in/patch to allow GIMP to use them natively. That would be excellent! All in all, I think its a worthwhile spendage of time, and so anyone willing to lend even a finger, or hell, even an entire hand, would be very welcome and thanked to do so. Re: [Gimp-user] keybinding for File-Open Location [was: Gimp 2.1.4 filepicker]
Hi, Quoting Joao S. O. Bueno Calligaris [EMAIL PROTECTED]: IMHO, the world is not a single suit of applications. Doesn't matter what HIG or HIK will say. snip On the other hand, ctrl + L to open the layers dialog is extensively documented, as Simon puts it. If the GIMP would be a Gnome-core application, I'd say it would be worth the effort. Let's not make this into a GNOME vs GIMP thing. The HIG is a set of Human Interface *Guidelines* which list a set of usability principles and some of their implications. No-one is saying it is a bible. As nomis pointed out, it is not clear that the HIG applies in this case at all. We have a great relationship with GNOME, they give us stuff (infrastucture, mainly) and ask for nothing in return. They handle our money, and ask below the going rate for administration of it. And last, but not least, we share a bunch of history, libraries and philosophy. While the GIMP isn't part of the GNOME Desktop Platform, in many ways we're a good citizen in GNOME World. Actually, if it is for ease of use at all, in a parallell popular suite of Free Software Applications, openning a location, doesn't have a different interface of openning a file. That's exactly the case with the file chooser. In fact, with gnome-vfs behind it, you get lots more for free too - ftp, sftp, smb and nfs shares are transparently available. Now...if someone will ask me what I find easier: having an open menu entry were I can click on folders and files, or type a filename or URL, _or_ having two open options on the menus, one were I cannot write a filename, but if I press a key combination which what happens to be the shortcut for the other open option I would not think much to answer this one. This is another conversation :) As they say in the House of Commons, I refer the honourable gentleman to the answer I gave some moments ago.
