[Gimp-user] Problem with merging two pictures with transparency
Hi all, I have a little problem. I have two pictures in png format. They have the same size. I want to copy one image on the top of another. The image that should be on the top contains transparentcy pixels that are on the borders of the picture. When I select all, copy and paste in the background picutre, the copied picture is not what I expect (the same picture as the original). I only got a rectangle selection that contains all the non transparent pixel. This selection is centered to the picture. I've found a workaround but it's not very convenient: I add a non transparent pixel top-left and bottom-right and then select only what I want. Is there a more elegant solution? Version of GIMP: 2.2.13 Cheers, Xavier. ___ Gimp-user mailing list Gimp-user@lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU https://lists.XCF.Berkeley.EDU/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

Try dragging the layer from the layers dialog into the image window where you want to add it. Re: [Gimp-user] transparent objects on and gif
Alex Moreno wrote: Good afternoon everybody, im trying to export this image from png to gif because of the IE problems: Have your tried the solution proposed by microsoft to have PNG transparency in IE ? http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q294714 GIF format cannot do transparency, just cut-through. For drop shadow, you need transparency. Metaphors/comparisons always end up being broken, but imagine a concrete house wall with a wooden door and some windows. GIF is like the wooden door: closed, you do not see through at all, opened, it is not in the frame, so you can see through the frame what is inside the house. (It does not mean the door is transparent, just that is is opened). PNG is like the windows: you can see through, there are made of glass, a transparent material. Some are dusty and you see through, although attenuated, some have curtains, and you see only a little through them, some others are clean and you see through them like if they were opened. [Gimp-user] Control Handles for Bezier Paths do not appear in gimp 1.4.6 on Windows XP
Hi, According to section 3.1.1.4 of http://gimp-savvy.com/BOOK/index.html, control handles should appear when using the Bezier Path selection tool. However, this does not happen in my installation of Gimp 1.4.6 on Windows XP. I don't know if that's because the document is outdated, or if this functionality is not present on Windows. Rather than control handles, I just see the control points, which I can move, but do not seem to have the flexibility or control that I should with control handles. Carey's book suggests that the Bezier path selection is the most powerful and best of the selection tools. Is that still the case, or does gimp-2 have a better one? Carey's book suggests that the Bezier path selection is the most powerful and best of the selection tools. Is that still the case, or does gimp-2 have a better one? I'd say that the best selection tool mostly depends on what you want to select. If you need to select rectangles, the bezier tool is not the best tool (the rectangular select tool is much better for that) If you need to select based on the color the bezier tool is not the best tool (the color select tool is much better for that). And so on. If you need to select bezier-formed areas, the bezier tool might be the best tool.
