Some of them are quite convincing. Maybe it's worth
starting a contest for the best Gimp 2.4 tutorial.

Good idea.

But first I think a repository would be nice, to have an overview of
what topics there are tutorial videos for, and where to find them.

If someone builds such a list, please include http://meetthegimp.org .
It's my (mostly) weekly video podcast around Gimp.

[Gimp-user] Gimp2.4.0; problems with Script-fu

2007-10-28 Thread Ruud en/of Truus
Hi,

I installed de new Gimp 2.4.0.under Windows XP.
It looks fine, but the Script-fu menu does not appear. The delivered
scripts are present under the share directory. So it seems that the
scripts contain syntax errors. I downloaded also the script Border3,
which works fine under Gimp 2.2.17. After placing the script in the
scripts directory the Script-fu menu appears in the image window. After
applying the script border3 an error-message comes up.
What to do about this problem?

Ruud

Hi,

two suggestions:

 1. Anybody (me included) could create a dedicated playlist that we can
link to.

 2. Use significant Tags (like Gimp + Tutorial) with any tutorial.

Re: [Gimp-user] Gimp2.4.0; problems with Script-fu

2007-10-28 Thread Aurore D.
Hello,

installed de new Gimp 2.4.0.under Windows XP.
It looks fine, but the Script-fu menu does not appear. The delivered
scripts are present under the share directory. So it seems that the
 scripts contain syntax errors.

The menu where rearranged. Now there's no Script-Fu menu any longer.
Instead, you'll find the scripts inside the various menus, most of the
time in the Filters menu. (For example, the Coffee Stain script is now
under Filters Decor).

I downloaded also the script Border3,
which works fine under Gimp 2.2.17. After placing the script in the
scripts directory the Script-fu menu appears in the image window.

That's because that script was registered with the old style menus.
The script tells Gimp that it should appear in a menu named Script-fu,
so Gimp create that menu.
If you're curious, you can search for the script-fu-menu-register part
inside the script.

 After
applying the script border3 an error-message comes up.
What to do about this problem?

There were a few differences between the former and the new script-fu
interpreters. You'll find the migration guide here [1], so you could
search for the error messages in the guide and do the necessary
replacements in the script. (I don't know that script, but maybe you
could also try to see if the author made a 2.4-compatible version).

I hope that helps :)

Though I don't have Gimp on my working hard disk right now but, IIFC,
you can create a new view and zoom it to a different magnification
level while still working on the original view. I guess there is a
File/NewView button or something or, perhaps, you can find such an
option in the image window menu itself ... I don't think you can
save views.

[Gimp-user] Visible Layer Groups/Bundles

2007-10-28 Thread Asif Lodhi
Hi,

Is it feasible for the developers to build a facility so that we mark
layers in the eye-icon-column and press a Create Visible Layer Group
button to create a group of visible layers (with a name or something)
so that we can have a menu or something with a list of groups of
layers that we want to be visible at any one time when we select any
of those groups. That will let us to show/hide specific layers with
one click - instead of manually showing/hiding individual layers.
Saving these layer groups with the XCF, of course, would be immensely
useful. Also, a facility to additionally mark/annotate a layer group
as Final would be just fine (to indicate that the image would be
viewed fine if we make the layers in the selected visible-layer-group
as visible).
