[Gimp-user] Editing photos

2011-03-19 Thread Baasha
Hi,
I am a new user running vs.2.6.7 on a Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit system.
Looking through the program I notice that there is a red-eye
correction. My question: Is there an equivalent yellow-eye feature to
edit pictures of animals? There must be a way to do this but I can't
find any mention of it in the docs or on the mailing list.

... When a cat is dropped, it always lands on its feet, and when toast
is dropped, it always lands with the buttered side facing down. I
propose to strap buttered toast to the back of a cat. The two will
hover, spinning inches above the ground. With a giant buttered cat
array, a high-speed monorail could easily link New York with Chicago.

Maybe is not exact the definition of gimp 2,7.2 "nightly build" may give a more
clear idea.
since are ""nightly build" there are almost daily changes
But i suppose you refer to one of this build now compiled for Windows

Not sure where is the full list but i may point to some changes

new cage transform tool
single window mode available
fixed crash when using the text tool

but from this version are also visible the future changes in the API;
in simple words most of third party plugin and scripts WILL NOT WORKS
because all need to be modified to work with gimp 2.8 (and so with gimp 2.7.2)

that probably will be done(by their developers and/or volunteers ) at soon gimp
2.8 will be out

In the while only a few plugin are updated (their win binary are on www.partha
.com, same link for the 2.7.2 for Windows...and for the instrution to install
it...really needed if you overlook instrution will not work )in the win
registry you may found a few script offered in 2 version for the stable 2,6 and
for 2.7

In case you want try 2.7 (for Windows )you may got some more tip on

[Gimp-user] Gimp 2.6.x Layers-Channels-Paths not showing layer previews

2011-03-19 Thread Charlie De
Hello all,

My first post here - I've run into a strange problem and can't find an answer.
Using Ubuntu 10.04, after some recent system updates, the Layers-Channels-Paths
window no longer updates when a file is opened, the Layers area is empty, not
showing a preview of the image. If I close and re-open the L-C-P window, then
the layer preview of the image shows as normal, and the window as a whole works
as expected.

I've tried everything I could think of to trace the source of the problem, to
no
avail. I think it must be caused by something that got recently updated in the
system, but I haven't been able to find it. Initially I noticed the problem
with
Gimp 2.6.10 that I had compiled from source myself. I deleted it and installed
2.6.8 from the repositories, but the problem persists. I then went through
"apt"
and "dpkg" logs, looking for system components that had recently been updated
and downgraded many of them, again to no avail.

My internet searches revealed a thread at Ubuntu forums a couple of years ago
where someone had the exact same problem after upgrading from Ubuntu 8.04 to
8.10. The poster found no solution, but managed to solve the problem by
installing 8.04 again. I think this is what I'm basically facing, having to
re-install a clean 10.04. But I think there must be just one system library
that
I haven't tracked down that's responsible for this problem. Would anyone here
have any idea which system library may be causing the problem?

It's a long shot, but worth asking. Thanks in advance.

Charlie

[Gimp-user] small bug in GIMP 2.6.7, windows, SF-DIRNAME?

2011-03-19 Thread Alan Campbell
I was trying to find something to put in a SF-DIRNAME widget that
would work on all platforms.

I tried "/". Bad choice on *nix/Mac, cause it leaves you at root of
file system.

On windows, "/" is displayed as "\"; the parameter associated with
the SF-DIRNAME displays with gimp-message as \, but throws an error
when used as argument to SF-DIRNAME string-append.

If it is genuinely coming back as a single backslash I can see why
(string-append would have problems with it (a single escape \
shouldn't be allowed, and indeed generates an error in e.g.

 (define x "\")

in the console)

So, something a bit wrong there?

And back to my original problem: is there any way to make sure I land
in a sensible folder (like $HOME or windows %USERPROFILE) when using
SF-DIRNAME? "~" doesn't work for Windows. Null string ends up in
\bin on windows, $HOME I think on Mac/*nix.

Yrs,

Alan

There's not even a 2.7.2 release yet, all that's out there are arbitrary Git
snapshots.

One thing to bear in mind: 2.6.11 is a stable release; 2.7.2 is a
developer's snapshot, and is presumably less stable than 2.6.11
