Re: [Gimp-user] Creating Transparent WaterMark

I did find a tutorial of how to make the watermark in GIMP, but it was written using an old version of GIMP. I have the current 2.8 version. Transparent vs. Hidden is a potential question. We often see transparent watermarks on commercial clip art, typically a mosaic of copyright notices positioned to ruin the image while allowing the original to show through. This is easily done via a text or image layer with its transparency adjusted. To create a really hidden watermark with the GIMP, see this tutorial, and a plugin using the same method: http://www.gimpdome.com/gimp-general-use/hidden-watermarks-in-gimp/ http://registry.gimp.org/node/21024 Not sure about the plugin, but the tutorial should work on any recent version of the GIMP. I just tested it in GIMP 2.8 and it worked as advertised. The plus side: This kind of watermark is very hard to spot, and difficult to remove even if someone realizes that it is present. The minus side: Digging a hidden watermark back out of a marked image and reading it, requires a copy of both the original and the watermarked image, and involves doing operations to reveal the difference between the marked and unmarked versions. You may need to hire an expert witness if you need to introduce this kind of watermark into evidence in a Court proceeding, to do the watermark extraction and render an opinion that it is genuine. By the time all is said and done, maybe it would be better to e-mail a copy of the original to yourself via a webmail service. A printed copy of this message provides a 3rd party time stamp, for proof of priority of publication. For a large number of images, e-mailing MD5 or SHA checksums of your original files to yourself may be a more practicable method of getting a 3rd party time stamp. :o) Steve For photos, the best way to demonstrate ownership it to publish a slightly cropped version and keep the full version for yourself (and the courts, if necessary) ___ gimp-user-list mailing list gimp-user-list@gnome.org https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list
[Gimp-user] Background
Dear GIMP users, First of all I would like to say that GIMP is a great piece of software, i've been using it since a few days and for a newbie like myself it;s rather straightforward. Yet now I encounter an obstacle which I can't seem to pass, it's probably very easy to fix but I just don't see it. In my webpage header I putted a logo. First, I made the logo background (which was white) transparant in GIMP and saved the file. Second I putted the logo in my header, yet the logo doesnt seem to be transparant as it is in the saved file because the blue header background colour is lighter at the place of the logo. I hope you guys understand my question, to make it more clear see the attachment for the file. any help/tips would be higly appreciated ! regards, Robert Attachments: * http://www.gimpusers.com/system/attachments/31/original/header_testje4a.xcf -- robertze (via www.gimpusers.com/forums) ___ gimp-user-list mailing list gimp-user-list@gnome.org https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list
Re: [Gimp-user] Background
What format did you save the file in? To display an image with a transparent color on a webpage, you need a PNG file. [Gimp-user] Download of GIMP in 'wrong' language !
Last night I downloaded GIMP v2.8.4 and think I requested an English language download. When I came to open the program I find the language is Portuguese. This I can partly understand as I have a Portuguese language version of Windows Vista and a Portuguese keyboard. However : 1/ If I did request English as my download language why do I have Portuguese ? And to resolve the problem with a 'new' download 2/ Can I download GIMP again (with more care) to overwrite my current install *or *change the language from within my current install ? Understand from gimp-user-list that I may be able to download (say) 2.6 into a folder keeping it separate from 2.8.4 ? Any comments ? Hi Robert, you can easily manipulate transparency values in different color adjustement tools. One could be Colors / Curves. Be sure to check the Alpha channel where you can handle all the (semi)transparent pixels. Then move the bottom point a little to the right, in the background you'll see that the slightly gray pixels will vanish and the background will shine through completely. See tge attached file for more clarification. Re: [Gimp-user] Adesso CyberTablet 12000 on Windows
On Mon, Apr 15, 2013 at 1:33 AM, Tobias Lunte tobias.lu...@hfg-gmuend.dewrote: Hello, If you're using 64-bit windows, try this solution Jernej Simončič has offered when the question came up earlier on this mailing list: Try this: uninstall GIMP 2.8, then run the 2.8.2 installer with /32 parameter (to do this, press the Windows key and R on keyboard, so that the Run dialog opens; then click Browse and find gimp-2.8.2-setup.exe; back in the Run dialog add a space and /32 at the end of Open field and click OK). This'll install 32-bit version of GIMP instead of 64-bit one if you have 64-bit Windows. If the tablet works now, you should contact the manufacturer, and request 64-bit drivers for the tablet. Thank you for the tip, but I had options for both 32 and 64 bit drivers and downloaded the 64bit drivers. I wasn't the OP back then, but I had other non-wacom-tablet-problems, which could be resolved this way. bw, Tobl -- Read my blog! I depend on your acceptance of my opinion! [Gimp-user] GSOC 2013 Computational Photography Proposal
Hi, I am currently pursuing MS by Research in the field of computer vision and image processing at IIIT- Hyderabad, India. I am interested in working for GIMP organization this summer in a GSoC project. Some of my own ideas: a) *Image denoising* * * I have found a latest research paper regarding this. http://www.inf.ufrgs.br/~eslgastal/AdaptiveManifolds/Gastal_Oliveira_SIGGRAPH2012_Adaptive_Manifolds.pdf b) *Color2Gray* Visually important image features often disappear when color images are converted to grayscale. This algorithm reduces such losses by attempting to preserve the salient features of the color image. The Color2Gray results offer viewers salient information missing from previous grayscale image creation methods. http://www.cse.cuhk.edu.hk/~leojia/papers/decolorization_iccp12.pdf c) *Domain Transform for Edge-Aware Image Processing (Non-Photorealistic Animation and Rendering) * The processing involves high-quality edge-preserving filtering of images (better than bilateral filter). The filter is applied on several image processing tasks including edge-preserving smoothing, Depth-of-field effects, stylization, detail enhancement, edge enhancement and pencil/color pencil sketch. http://www.inf.ufrgs.br/~eslgastal/DomainTransform/Gastal_Oliveira_SIGGRAPH2011_Domain_Transform.pdf d) *Surface Extraction from Texture* * * http://www.cse.cuhk.edu.hk/~leojia/projects/texturesep/texturesep12.pdf* * What are your views about this?
